Q: You haven’t advanced to MSL in a while
A: When I first came up to MSL, I advanced without any skills. I used to be arrogant for solely advancing and thought that I was good just for doing that. As I remembered about that experience, I thought that I should do better.
Q: It seems like you practiced a lot
A: Because the maps are the same as the Proleague’s, I was able to practice for this while practicing for Proleague matches. I didn’t put a lot of time especially for this.
Q: You used Dark Archons effectively
A: It was as I prepared. Because of that, there wasn’t anything too hard.
Q: Who did you want to face in the winner’s match?
A: Because there were both Terrans, it didn’t matter to me. I thought I could beat them regardless of who advanced.
Q: Your ability to expand was great in the winner’s match
A: I’m confident in expanding quickly and making a lot of units. When I succeeded my 14 Nexus, and the opponent didn’t cheese rush me, I knew that I would win as long as the game continued this way.
Q: You’re playing well lately
A: Compared to the past, I’m confident in myself and I think all the games are going well. I think I can do well in this MSL.
Q: You achieved 10 consecutive wins in PvZ
A: I only realized that when I was on an 8-game winning streak. I don’t think I’m good at PvZ just for going on a 10-game winning streak (laughs). If I want to consider myself good, I would have to beat
Jaedong. Once I get better in PvZ, then I can focus on getting winning streaks. Right now, it doesn’t have much meaning.Q: What’s different from the past?
A: I don’t think anything’s different in terms of my skills. However, I used to get nervous on televised matches and ended up losing a lot of times like that. Even if I had confidence, I was in a situation where I couldn’t get sent out. Now, however, I can calm myself down in televised matches so that’s how I’m able to win a little more.
Q: Your goals for this MSL
A: I want to win at the finals. I think it’s possible as long as I try hard enough. I need a little bit of luck as well.
Q: Anything else?
A:
Kal probably watched me nervously at the team house. He told me to advance, but I don’t think he wanted me to advance (laughs). I also tell him to drop out of the league sometimes (laughs). - 오랜만에 MSL에 진출했는데.
▲ 예전에 처음 MSL에 진출했을 때는 실력도 없는 상황에서 올라갔다. 올라간 것 만으로 잘하는 것인 줄 알고 자만하기도 했다. 그 때 생각이 나면서 더 잘해야겠다는 생각이 들었다.
- 연습을 많이 한 것 같더라.
▲ 맵이 프로리그와 겹치기 때문에 프로리그 연습을 하면서 같이 준비했다. 특별히 연습을 많이 하고 그러지는 않았다.
- 다크아콘을 잘 사용했는데.
▲ 예상했던 그림이었다. 그대로 나와줬기 때문에 특별히 어려운 점은 없었다.
- 승자전에서 어떤 선수와 맞붙기를 바랐나.
▲ 둘 다 똑 같은 테란이기 때문에 상관 없었다. 누가 올라오든 이길 수 있을 것으로 생각했다.
- 승자전에서 확장력이 대단하던데.
▲ 확장 빨리하고 많이 뽑는 것은 자신이 있다. 생더블 성공을 하고 상대가 치즈러시를 하지 않았을 때 이대로만 간다면 이길 수 있겠다는 생각이 들었다.
- 최근 경기력이 상당히 좋다.
▲ 지금은 누구를 만나도 예전과 달리 자신감도 있고 할 만하다고 생각을 하는 때이다. 이번 MSL도 잘할 수 있을 것 같다.
- 저그전 10연승을 기록하기도 했다.
▲ 8연승을 했을 때 연승 중이라는 사실을 알았다. 내가 10연승을 했다고 해서 저그전을 잘하는 것은 아닌 것 같다(웃음). 정말 잘하려면 이제동 선수와 경기를 해도 이겨야 한다. 저그전을 더 잘하게 된다면 그 때부터 연승을 쌓아도 된다고 생각한다. 지금은 별다른 의미를 두지 않는다.
- 예전과 달라진 점이 있다면.
▲ 실력은 예전과 달라진 것이 없다고 생각한다. 하지만 방송에서 긴장하고 어이없이 패배하고 그러는 경우가 많았다. 자신이 있어도 나갈 수 없는 상황이 겹치기도 했다. 지금은 방송 경기에 계속 나가면서 마인드컨트롤을 잘 할 수 있게 되어서 조금씩 이겨 나가고 있는 것 같다.
- 이번 MSL의 목표는 어떻게 되나.
▲ 결승전에 올라가서 우승을 하고 싶다. 열심히 하면 충분히 할 수 있다고 생각한다. 약간의 운도 조금 필요하다.
- 마지막으로 하고 싶은 말이 있다면.
▲ (김)구현이가 숙소에서 마음을 졸이면서 지켜봤을 것이다. 나에게 꼭 올라가라고 했는데 떨어지기를 바랐을 것 같기도 하다(웃음). 나도 구현이에게 스타리그 때 떨어지라고 장난을 치기도 한다. 농담이고, 앞으로 둘 다 더 잘했으면 좋겠다는 말을 하고 싶다.

Q: You succeeded in advancing to the MSL
A: Honestly, I wasn’t too confident with today’s Survivor Tournament. I couldn’t practice a lot. However, because I was thinking comfortably, I didn’t become nervous and ended up playing well. I was disappointed in my 0-2 loss last time, so I don’t want to drop down to PC-bang [internet café] anymore.
Q: You don’t have a good relationship with individual leagues
A: I want to do better in Proleague more than individual leagues. I always practiced really hard for Proleague games, but I never practiced as diligently for individual league games. The fact that I couldn’t advance higher affected me as well.
Q: Don’t individual leagues get on your nerves as well?
A: It’s been a while since I’ve debuted and because it does concern me to think that I still don’t have a title. I’m trying hard, but I don’t think it works out well for me in individual leagues (laughs).
Q: You played against
fOrGG twice. Is he a tricky player to face?A: I don’t think he’s especially tricky. It’s been a while since he changed teams and my style changed a lot. ForGG plays very stubbornly. Because he didn’t get to change that part of him, I was able to use that well. His game style is pretty constant, while mine has changed quite a lot from the past.
Q: No one could predict the outcome of the 1st game until it ended
A: I thought I lost that match when I saw 3 Wraiths. My 12 o’clock expansion was very late and I was damaged. However, ForGG became hasty and tried to fight by measuring distance, but because he made a mistake, it became a chance for me. It wasn’t a good situation for me, but as I played, I somehow turned the game around.
Q: You lost weakly in the winner’s match
A: Because my opponent built the pylon outside the base, I thought my cheese rush would get blocked so I didn’t try it. Overall, I think I was lacking in that game. I didn’t play accordingly to my style. I’m trying to vary my style a lot, but it’s still hard for me and I’m not good enough yet.
Q: You blocked the proxy 2 Factory very well in the final match.
A: I practiced with
Lomo before I came here today. He tried 14 CC one game, but the other, he tried the exact same strategy against me as ForGG’s. I was amazed after I won.Q: What are your resolutions for this MSL?
A: Even now, I think Proleague comes first (laughs). I’m not saying that it’s okay to drop out of the league. I’m going to play thinking I have to show good games for my fans. My first game today was an unusual TvT. Although the game was messy, I think the audience likes those games better these days. It was also fun playing that game. However, the winner’s match wasn’t. I hope more fun games end up being played.
Q: Anything else?
A: I don’t think my team has gone on a winning streak in Proleague yet. We came back from a workshop and learned a lot from it. Through the things we learned, I hope we can work together and become like Hwaseung from last year and win continuously.

- MSL 진출에 성공했는데.
▲ 솔직히 오늘 서바이버 토너먼트는 자신이 없었다. 연습을 많이 하지 못했다. 하지만 편하게 생각하다 보니 긴장이 되지 않아서 게임이 더 잘됐다. 저번 첫 MSL에서는 2패 탈락을 해서 너무 아쉬웠다. 이제는 PC방으로 내려가지 않았으면 좋겠다.
- 개인리그와는 인연이 많지 않다.
▲ 나는 오히려 개인리그보다 프로리그에 더 욕심이 나는 편이다. 프로리그는 정말 열심히 연습을 하는데 개인리그는 프로리그만큼 열정적으로 연습하지 않았던 것 같다. 그 동안 워낙 못 올라간 영향도 있다.
- 그래도 이제는 개인리그가 신경 쓰이지 않나.
▲ 데뷔한지는 오래됐는데 개인리그 타이틀이 하나도 없다는 것은 신경이 쓰일 수 밖에 없다. 열심히 하고는 있는데 개인리그에서는 잘 풀리지 않는 것 같다(웃음).
- 박지수와 2번 경기를 펼쳤는데, 까다로운 상대 아닌가?
▲ 딱히 까다롭게 생각하지는 않는다. 팀이 바뀐 것도 오래됐고 스타일도 많이 변했다. (박)지수가 고집이 센 플레이 스타일을 갖고 있다. 그것을 버리지 못한 것 같아서 그 점을 내가 잘 공략한 것 같다. (박)지수는 스타일 자체가 약간 일정하다. 나는 스타일이 전과 많이 바뀌었다.
- 첫 경기는 끝까지 승부를 예측할 수 없는 접전이었다.
▲ 그 경기는 레이스 3기를 봤을 때부터 졌다는 생각을 했다. 12시 멀티도 훨씬 느렸고 피해도 입었다. 하지만 그 때는 (박)지수가 성급해서 빨리 끝내려고 각도기 싸움을 했는데 실수를 하는 바람에 나에게 기회가 왔다. 그렇지만 좋은 상황은 아니었는데 어떻게 하다 보니 역전을 하게 됐다.
- 승자전에서는 무기력하게 패배했는데.
▲ 상대가 파일런을 전진해서 건설했기 때문에 치즈러시가 막힐 것 같아서 시도하지 않았다. 전체적으로 내가 부족했던 것 같다. 내 스타일대로 경기를 하지 않았다. 요즘 스타일을 다양하게 하려고 노력 중인데 아직은 힘들고 부족하다.
- 최종전에서 전진 2팩토리 전략을 잘 막았다.
▲ 오늘 경기장에 오기 전에 (손)주흥이와 경기를 2번 했다. 한 번은 생더블을 해줬는데, 또 한번은 (박)지수와 완전히 똑 같은 플레이를 해줬다. 이기고 나서 신기했다.
- 이번 MSL에 임하는 마음가짐은 어떤가?
▲ 지금 생각해도 프로리그를 우선시하는 것 같다(웃음). 개인리그는 떨어져도 괜찮다는 생각은 아니다. 팬들에게 더 좋은 게임을 보여주자는 마음으로 임할 생각이다. 오늘 첫 경기 같은 경우도 쉽게 나오지 않는 테테전 양상이다. 비록 게임은 엉망이었지만 요즘에는 시청자들에게 이런 경기가 더 재미있지 않을까 싶다. 게임을 하면서도 재미가 있었다. 반면 승자전은 그렇지 않았다. 그런 재미있는 경기들이 많이 나왔으면 좋겠다.
- 더 하고 싶은 말이 있다면.
▲ 프로리그에서 우리 팀이 연승을 한 적이 없는 것 같다. 워크샵도 다녀왔고 많은 것을 배웠다. 배운 것을 통해서 서로 단합을 잘해서 작년의 화승 오즈처럼 승승장구하는 팀이 됐으면 좋겠다.
