There seems to be enough interest in the blogs to warrant this so I'll call out all you music lovers to post your top 10, 20, or 25 Albums of this year ONLY. Please DO NOT include descriptions\reviews\album artwork of albums unless spoiler tagged to save us from exhaustingly long lists.

1. Megadeth - Endgame + Show Spoiler + This might be fanboyism, but I honestly think this album is the best since Youthanasia, which would put it a #6 (on my rankings). Broderick's guitar work really shows through with that melodic style. Probably not that great because of the lack of truly awesome riffs
2. Vader - Necropolis + Show Spoiler + The album just makes sense. Vader has this unstable lineup, but releases solid stuff. Just a solid death metal record that comes a bit above the other stuff released
3. Heaven and Hell - The Devil You Know + Show Spoiler + Oh man I had been looking forward to it for a long time, and it does not disappoint. Iommi plays like a God here and Dio's voice is still nearly impossible to match.
4. Stratovarius - Polaris + Show Spoiler + I don't like power metal, but I did like some of Strato's earlier stuff (their recent stuff was very disappointing IMHO), but with the resignation(?) of the lead guitarist, and the addition of some new blood it looks like Stratovarius got together and added 1 and 1. Some solid songs, and solid guitar work + the I actually liked the keyboards in this album o_O
5. Suffocation - Blood Oath + Show Spoiler + Not Suffocation's best by a long shot, but still fairly decent output after their fairly disappointing s/t. Sounds like Suffocation tbh. If you didn't like suffocation before, this won't change any opinions.
6. Saxon - Into the Labyrinth + Show Spoiler + solid heavy metal is what Saxon is known for and is what Saxon delivers.

Eh, without the effort put into finding youtube vids of the best track, or including download links in with the music, and including descriptions of why you thought the music was so awesome, I'm not sure this is really sharing that much. But hey I don't want to discourage anyone, just encouraging people to describe their top picks a little more.

I did say they could spoiler tag any description, album artwork, etc they wanted. In the efforts to keep the lists at reader friendly level I did not include any reviews personally but my list is by no means a benchmark.
P.S. JWD I really like that list. I loved each and every one of those albums and found it really hard to exclude the Rural Alberta Advantage too. Good stuff.

In your blog you gave descriptions of the top 5, and I wasn't bashing anything... just saying that the more effort a person puts into describing why they like their top picks, the more discussion people can make about them.

1. Muse - The Resistance 2. Metric - Fantasies 3. Tegan and Sara - Sainthood
Most of my music listening this year has been on pandora, so i don't really pay attention to albums much. if i took the time to look up bands i could make a better list but these three are the only ones that come to mind

Well then perhaps when you make your list you might choose to be more informative than my effort. I didn't see the reasoning when people can research each artist and form their own opinion instead of basing an initial interest it off somebody else's views.

i spent most of the year listening to older music rather than keeping up, but i'm surprised at a lot of these choices, so i'll contribute and try to stir up some discussion.
what i listened to and didn't outright hate (singles/eps included): 1: Animal Collective - MPP + Fall Be Kind (the light from these releases won't reach the rest of 2009 for another five years) 2: Asobi Seksu - Hush + Rewolf 3: Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs 4: Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career 5: Hijokaidan - The Noise 6: Boredoms - Super Roots 10 7: Mos Def - The Ecstatic 8: Team Teamwork - The Ocarina of Rhyme (so cheesy, so good) 9: Sunn o))) - Monoliths and Dimensions 10: Black Dice - Repo (one of my favourite bands; huge disappointment) Honourable Mention: Midori - Swing
albums with one good song: Project Pat - Real Recognize Real ("Outro" is hilarious) Sonic Youth - The Eternal ("Antenna"; after the last three albums, there's no way this is anything but a huge drop in quality)
albums i have listened to, but haven't listened to enough to really process: Les Rallizes Denudes - Tangled Up In Blue 1973 Converge - Axe to Fall Maudlin of the Well - Part the Second UGK - UGK 4 Life Lightning Bolt - Earthly Delights Paramore - Brand New Eyes Raekwon - Only Built for Cuban Linx Pt. 2 Killer Mike - Underground Atlanta Girls Generation - Gee + Genie EPs (picked up by osmosis through Roffles' stream) Deerhunter - Rainwater Cassette Exchange Atlas Sound - Logos
