The 2009 Asian Indoor Games (AIG) will be happening next week in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Asian Indoor games is officially sanctioned by the Asian Olympic Council and is an event for competitions that are generally played indoors and may be under consideration for the Olympic games. Examples of other games at the event are 3v3 Basketball, Futsal, Billiards and Chess. This year the Vietnamese Olympic Committee has decided to add Starcraft as one of the "E-sports" at the event (the others being Counter-Strike, FIFA2009, NFS, DotA and NBA Live). E-Sports made their First appearance in Macau 2007 but did not include Starcraft.

haha, that's just brutal :D maybe china can get someone to give the koreans a match.

We dont send any Starcraft players, and probably no other countries does except China and Korea. I dont even know whether China sends any because everyone is scared of Korea lol
Its funny story in Vietnam as well because we initiated the inclusion of SC and did organize the preliminary round for selection of 2 players participating in this AIG. But after that the Vietnamese organizing committee thought that it would be hard to get the good results when competing with China and Korea so they decided not to send any players. Furthermore, in Esport, we have stronger team in other categories such as FiFa and DOTA. It looks like each country has limited number of categories to send players (4 in 6 categories)
I am also really surprised that countries like Singapore and Malaysia where not only SC is good but Esport in general do not join this esport competition
Too bad for SC but this is also great chance for the community to meet Flash and Fantasy irl. Everyone is very excited. The stadium is also located in the place crowded with internet cafe shops (like PC bangs in Korea) so lots of nerds will join this fun.

Weird that Jaedong doesn't really get sent to any events like IEF or this.

I never thought I'd see "may be under consideration for the Olympic games" and "StarCraft" being mentioned in the same post.

I think that's why a lot of participating countries choose not to take part in E-sports?

I think this is why KT, SK, hite and STX aren't playing this week and thus the no-game Monday. KT and STX manager is over in Vietnam, fantasy from SK as well. Dunno about hite, I just guess they needed a fourth team to make it even.

Starcraft is being played on the 3rd and the 4th. If I can allocate some time, I'll pass by the competition hall to take pictures with Flash and Fantasy =D
It's such a shame though, that there are only a few SC players.
P/S: on a side note, Vietnam just won our first (and probably only) eSport gold medal in DotA lol

I heard the computers can't even play CS properly.

I'm going to bump this because the first games are scheduled to start at 8:00am local which would mean the group stage is well under way, the event has a website but the starcraft results/players aren't yet updated, anyone at the event?

heh, ya, I'm just suing that to update, found it to thanks DuskBin!
and thanks Niggurath
I don't know who the Chinese players are, neither of them are F91, it appears that Yang Zheng once played FIFA for China at WCG

Oh wow this is cool. This is the first year and already have two of the best players going. Is there any prizes?
|
Gold medals baby!
Other than that, no I don't think so
|
This is brutal, the only game I can see koreans losing to is fantasy to the chinese.
|
I think the Chinese players are just FIFA players who have been instructed to play both games
