Absolutely nothing wrong with different kind of styles as long as it suits the person and you feel good wearing it. But looking at these pages it's strange calling it "fashion" because it is almost all the same brands and looks to some extent.
It has taken me years (and I'm only just 23) to finetune what I like to wear and it has become one of the most expensive hobbies ever for me personally. Wouldn't it be interesting for any of you guys to look in to actual fashion brands, here I am talking: Rick Owns, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries van Noten and the ones a like? Some of those could actually fit into that very formal wear most of you are making WAYWT pictures of, just with a twist, some special fabric or some cuts that make it look just a tiny bit more fashionable. I'm not arguing people should try hard (it has taken me forever to not try hard, and I'm not even there half of the time when dressing) but it would be interesting to actually see some twists and more personal looks.

Just my two cents :-)

Also if any of you are wondering what I like to wear writing a post like this, pretty much my entire wardrobe is Boris Bidjan Saberi, soo I'm quite the advertisement statue for him. What I find though is that his street style compared with heavy layering and fabrics really look good on me so I'm quite the "fanboy" when it comes to fashion and dressing.

you're speaking to the wrong demographic. Have you browsed through the thread to see how people dress? most people here are literally starting out and have no idea who jil sanders is, never mind designers like raf or yohji or doma.
I guess what I'm saying is there's no point in telling them to try such expensive pieces if they have no idea what to do with a fit or a certain silhouette. It will simply serve to exacerbate their lack of know-how.
You need to know how each article drapes on you, so if anyone is actually willing to try while blowing a quarter of their paycheck on a pair of rick dropcrotch, I'd probably recommend browsing/lurking szg/sufu for a long time.

Heya, I do not disagree with you at all. Both of us was probably at the same stage as most guys asking for help on sites like this. All I am saying is that after browsing these last several pages, it occurs that a lot of people do have a more formal way of dressing (shirts, blazers, ties and so on), and talk about how they absolutely love silk from YSL and such. In that matter I don't see anything wrong in recommending them getting something special for that sort of formal wear that stick out and bit and make personality.

Most people tend to go for wearable clothes instead of the conceptual mindfucks from the "actual fashion" catwalks. But if you want to be the umbrella or whatever and feel superior rather then bring an umbrella like normal people, please do go ahead but leave the "finer than thou" crap out of the thread.

Your boots/black shoes in the 3rd from last pic... I must have them. What are they?

MrBitter! You are awesome first of all. Second of all, they are Generic Surplus' Ledger boots in the "earth" colour.

http://www.amazon.com/Generic-Surplus-Ledger-Leather-Mid/dp/B0058BL0OG

Very affordable!

Oh also, if you do get them, dont size down like you do in most boots. Get your actual dress shoe size. These fit TTS.

pretty much shows you have no idea what you're talking about
haute couture isn't meant to be worn. It's supposed to overemphasize certain features or silhouettes as to show new trends and concepts.
and we were definitely not talking about high fashion either.

I like the effort with bolds and italics though.

I might have been a bit extreme with the haute couture reference, but my point is valid in my opinion. Which designer you like is subjective and for people to come in here and belittle someone elses style just because they aren't wearing pieces from their favourite designers is just lame.

Worst answer ever. I see the paradox but I am not going to respond to this. Go be clothing ignorant somewhere else.

You came here to take a dump on people not wearing actual fashion. Yeah I'm the ignorant one...

The elitist angle to your comments is condescending and rude and irked me to answer back in style. Fashion isn't wearing a certain name you approve of. Fashion is getting clothes to work aesthetically for you. So be it if it's something off the rack at H&M, something you made yourself or some unique piece from a well recognized designer, as long as it works in the composition for you then who the fuck cares what name it got on the tag. Posers do.

Headshaking....just headshaking. No, I did not come here to dump anything on anyone. What I did was suggesting that people already into fashion (without taking a huge and long debate about this - it seems like we aren't and wont ever agree about this matter) to try and mix in some brands that are not rip offs of brands that, yes, I am really fond of. And no, I do not agree with the last part of your post. I will take andyrau's earlier post a bit out of his context and use it in my own: "(...) pretty much shows you have no idea what you're talking about" and leave it with that.

He was not being elitist or condescending.
He simply suggested that if people are getting into 'higher-end brands' like ysl, they might also look into more niche (termed generally) designers that might help give their overall appearance a more unique aspect with far different cuts, patterns, fabrics, or silhouettes.
The tag isn't even important. For most people like you buying clothes, the brand says everything. It's not the same for others.
When you buy something like a Watanabe piece, you're not paying for the name. You're paying for his specific take on a piece of clothing. Each designer has his or her own niche aspect. It's what segregates a person who's buying designer clothing for superficial means and somebody who actually appreciates the artistry behind each piece and understands how to fit it all together.
I know this runs the risk of sounding all pretentious.
However, neither viewpoints are really wrong or right. Like you said, it's completely subjective but your posts sound anything but.

that part about ripping off kind of reminds me of the margiela line now. Along with its collaboration with h&m, the mmm label is a shadow of its former glory.
ever since he left the company (back in what, 09ish?) they haven't actually produced anything noteworthy.
brand dilution at its finest.

Sorry if he wasn't trying to be condescending, but I can't help to find the tone to be just that. His followup posts kind of point in that direction too.

I have no further to add to this, I just felt that he had a elitist tone and I did not approve. I said my part in it you said yours. I'll continue to shop my non-fashion off-the-rack ripoffs.

chinos and cords?

are you sure you can't wear jeans? if you can't wear jeans you won't be able to wear other pants. what is it? the material?

if it's the fit...there are thousands of different cuts for jeans out there. i don't think you've looked hard enough
