well, those players have to make a living of gaming. its their job, they are not some parent-financed teens goofing around to serve the community. So if there is no chance anymore to earn a dime, they'll probably not play. No money - no music. its that simple

maybe distributing the pricepool a lot more, e.g. make the better 50% of players earn something (at least ~200$) would motivate to show up and be cannonfodder.

i can understand korean players being more professional about sc2 but how did you come to your other 2 conclusions.

because its part of our culture?

lol from what I heard from rekrul koreans are rarely concerned about being places on time at all -.-

unless im remembering things wrong. but i doubt i am

In most traditional league sports (at least here in sweden/europe) there is a central organisation that punishes teams that gives another team an unfair advantage by not doing their best. This is usually at the end of the season, when one team either is already qualified for playoffs, or already without chance to reach it. It can often be tricky decisions when for example the scenario is that a lot of juniors play instead of the established players, but not showing up or saying wo in advance would definately be penalised with more than just a loss.

GOody and BratOk should be punished.
It's a shame. When I do not appeare to a football game in a damn LOW class, i have to pay 5€.
It's not all about the money but about the respect!

Tournaments need players but players need tournaments too. Works both ways. Players get invited on the basis that they will finish out their games, or money will be deducted from their deposit. Maybe next season they need to bump up the deposit if players are still forfeiting games.

At first I thought the deposit system was redundant, players were going to play all their games simply because of competitive spirit. However turns out they were right all along. There are dishonorable people such as you who only care about their own gains no matter how inconsequential.

If Goody had to wake at 3 am, that means Goody would have had to play at 8 pm.

I'm ok with playing a tournament at 8 pm.

MC is in colombus so Goody would have to play more like 8AM, which still seems like it would be a fine time to play a tourny unless you're used to waking up every day at noon, but then he should have taken off the skirt and woke up early

The main problems with the walkovers are the following:

1) walkovers aren't announced prior to the broadcast, so people are pissed off when they make time to watch their favourite player and then it doesn't happen. A small notification of walkovers at the beginning of the broadcast and/or at the end of the previous day's broadcast would go a LONG way to stop people from being so annoyed by this.

2) Some of the invited players have quit playing, are too busy to train or are just not very good (comparatively). Not only does this mean that those players don't show up half the time, but it also means there's far less of a relegation battle than there should be. When you have so many guys sitting on 0-8 or 1-7 and unlikely to win another match, you get the situation where people like BratOK can sit comfortably on a 3-5 record and know they're safe for next season.

This is one of those things that's going to sort itself out for next season, as those that aren't able to compete will be relegated and replaced by a bunch of people who've earned their spot through qualifiers. When you don't have those 1 or 2 guys in each division that are basically giving away free wins you'll have a much closer spread of points and suddenly everyone will be doing everything they can to get those one or two extra wins they need to retain their spot.

Not only is that a very bad attitude to have if you actually wanna be a profesional player, it's also wrong.

If the players just don't show up without a valid reason and not even informing NASL they'll have money deducted from their deposit. So in fact they would be making money just by showing up, doing two stupid rushes and lose.

It's really just some players wanna sleep in instead of putting in matches for the NASL that were kind enough to invite them into their league, and more importantly the fans who might have even stayed up to watch them play.

I think you meant the Koreans? The Euros probably have the BEST times, as they all play in the evening, while the Americans end up having to play in the afternoon. It's the Koreans who have to wake up at 3-4 A.M.

Of course it's bad and unpro from the players to miss games just because they are safe in the next season, have no chance to make it to the playoffs or what ever...

As someone here mentioned before:
Tournaments need players, but players need tournaments too.
If you miss your games the league gets les interesting, the viewers (who in the end are the people who make it possible that we have such huge prize pools) get annoyed etc.

But this is of course one of the many NASL problems, which they will hopefully solve for the next season.
They a) need a different format (in which it suxx for every player to lose any game) and/or b) Players need to be punished due to better rules. E.g. like in the ESL (at least in the German Pro Series they do it like this): If a player gets too many penalty points per season, he will be disqualified (which in the NASL would e.g. mean: banned for the next season) or he will even lose some x% of his prize money in this season (or even for future seasons, if he doesnt make it in the money now).

But hey, I actually feel like the walkovers are by for not the biggest problems:
- Bad communication (was mentioned before, so no long explanation needed)...
- their website needs some tweaks (I mainly mean the content, although I dislike the design too - seriously, no information on the leagues format?)...
- imho they shouldnt run a show on the MLG weekend for their own good - but ok, this would look like a sign of weakness (basically saying: MLG is more important than we are) etc.

Anyways, we still saw many many great games and casts this season, amazing players for a first season and im sure the playoffs will be a hell lot of fun - and season 2 will be even better =)

Yeah, the play times was the number one concern for me as I have been taking 2 hour "lunch breaks" from work ... Not just that, I haven't played a single NASL match so far with warmup games. I'm sure the Koreans have hard time waking up at like 4 AM to play this. The Europeans play at like 9 PM which is for majority of players, it's quite optimal.
