We are extremely close to shutting down this thread for the same reasons the PUA thread was shut down. While some of the time this thread contains actual discussion with people asking help and people giving nice advice, it often gets derailed by rubbish that should not be here. The moderation team will be trying to steer this thread in a different direction from now on.

Posts of the following nature are banned:
1) ANYTHING regarding PUA. If your post contains the words 'alpha' or 'beta' or anything of that sort please don't hit post.
2) Stupid brags. You can tell us about your nice success stories with someone, but posts such as 'lol 50 Tinder matches' are a no-no.
3) Any misogynistic bullshit, including discussion about rape culture.
4) One night stands and random sex. These are basically brags that invariably devolve into gender role discussions and misogynistic comments.

Last chance, guys. This thread is for dating advice and sharing dating stories. While gender roles, sociocultural norms, and our biological imperative to reproduce are all tangentially related, these subjects are not the main purpose of the thread. Please AVOID these discussions. If you want to discuss them at length, go to PMs or start a blog. If you disagree with someone's ideologies, state that you disagree with them and why they won't work from a dating standpoint and move on. We will not tolerate any lengthy derailments that aren't directly about dating.

Anyways, took my dogs to the lake today after morning training and my dogs picked up a little girly for me, we were just hanging out in a little side area apart from the main beach area and this cute little, (19, maybe 20yrs old, 5'6 tops, maybe 115lbs, only b-cups tho) thing comes on over and starts asking if my dogs were nice and could she pet them so of course I turn the wild beasts loose on her and they pretty much lick her to death and she's just all laughing and playing with them, then I snap my fingers and both my girls sit down instantly without a second movement just like I taught them. She comes over and talks me up saying how impressed she is with my control over them, and that she's a dog trainer herself. We chat for a bit then splash around in the lake like a bunch of little kids. A little kissing/grabbing then I left, told her I had some stuff I needed to take care of, she looked so confused like she expected me to sit around and play with her all day or something. As I'm packing up she gives me her business card and tells me to call her anytime.

I don't understand this. Aren't you married with kids? So either you're a cheating bastard or a liar?

What's bad about being in a committed relationship and picking up other women at the same time?

I'm assuming you're being sarcastic...

I'm actually not.

People who can't wrap their head around a non-monogamous relationship aren't exactly uncommon.

How does a person commit to another person if they're agreeing to a polygamous/ open relationship? I feel like that kind of "commitment" is very different than what it takes to be fully committed to one person.

I'd argue that polyamorous relationships need a much deeper emotional bond than any other because otherwise it simply won't work. It's much easier to control someone instead of developing real trust.

It's just sad when someone calls someone a cheating bastard or liar when it could be just a preference and/or lifestyle choice. It's like being disgusted because someone else might have anal sex because "wtf you just don't do that".

While I agree that polyamorous relationships still require trust, I wouldn't say that monogamous relationships require controlling your partner, let alone controlling your partner and not "developing real trust".

And I'm not sure what you mean by calling someone a cheater or liar when "it could be just a preference and/or lifestyle choice". Surely only those who have agreed to be in an exclusive relationship and then decide to actually break that rule are called cheaters and liars (because they're cheating and lying)? If a man changes his mind and wants to be open to other partners, he should surely let his girlfriend know first.

I was seriously dating a girl this summer. It's rare I actually really like a girl. It was going very well, we clicked as good as a guy and girl possibly could. The problem is, she's from a rich, white, "Christian" family. Let's say that type doesn't tend to be very accepting.
At first, her parents loved me without even knowing me. They've never ever heard their daughter speak about a guy like she was speaking about me. But, they started asking questions. But they didn't like that my folks come from somewhere. It doesn't matter that I'm Christian, doesn't matter I'm 'white', doesn't matter I'm American enough to flood Texas with red, white, and blue, doesn't matter I'm starting my Master's in CS in September, but they didn't like a certain detail. I found out this matter from a mutual friend, and so, her parents wouldn't have us dating.

Of course, when the girl herself broke the news to me, I could tell she was just giving me bullshit excuses as girls do all the time. I knew what was up, just asked her friend for confirmation...

Well, I wasn't sad or pissed but it sucked pretty bad. I had a bad feeling about what was coming when I figured she was talking to her parents (eg. getting them involved implicitly).

Anyways, I wasn't feeling too well about the matter regardless, so that night I had a fun night in an area of town with a lot of bars/clubs. One particular lady was particularly enjoyable. I just left kept things with her to that night though. Totally not someone I'd date lol. Normally I wouldn't do something like that, but I really needed to get it out of my system.

I'm fine now. I'm going to grad school in a couple of weeks. During my time there, will I find a girl I'd like to date? Who knows. I'm not desperate to be in a relationship (I've had many many opportunities) and if a girl isn't someone I truly like for many many reasons, then I'm not going to bother wasting my time.

I didn't say I was disgusted, I just thought he was lying about something. I didn't really consider the "open relationship" thing until a bit later.

Personally,l don't like it, but I wouldn't say it is "disgusting." I would like to know what the girls he sees on that side think about him being married (do they know, do they care?).

JudicatorHammurabi, I assume you don't want to tell what that detail was, that made the family not accept you... but either way, if it's something you can't change (or aren't willing to change because it's an important part of your life/ identity), then fuck em. They missed out. Unfortunately, she missed out. But that's life.

I thank you very much for your regards and condolences. I'm of the opinion that except for very good reason (but I guess that could get very subjective), there shouldn't be external influence in dating or even in an established relationship.

Sad part is this wasn't in the South lol. It was in California. I was just using Texas as an analogy of patriotism, since Texas is considered to be very patriotic. Sorry if it seemed like I was implying I lived in Texas.

Oh I'd have no problem. Just not over the Internet. And yeah, it is something I cannot change haha. Trust me, I very much wish I could change it.
Those were my exact thoughts! I admit it was a bit arrogant for me to think that she lost, not me, but it is in fact the truth of the matter :/.

It's more about the initial assumption. Guy posts a short FR, someone else remembers he's married and his first reaction is "wtf are you a cheater or liar?" not even considering the possibility that it's consensual.

NotSorry has posted a few times about his open marriage in this thread so in this context it's okay.

It's more about the initial assumption. Guy posts a short FR, someone else remembers he's married and his first reaction is "wtf are you a cheater or liar?" not even considering the possibility that it's consensual.

Ah I see. Yeah, there's always the alternative of having an open marriage, regardless of the benefits/ consequences of it (or of being monogamous). It's certainly on the table for some couples.

Would it make NotSorry a lying scumbag if he doesn't tell the other women he's picking up that he's married?

Depends how she feels about it, not something you bring up immediately the first time you meet someone. He's in an open relationship so it's not a problem on his end at all.

I usually establish very quickly that I'm not interested in anything relationship-related. If that frame gets accepted I'll bring up my gf randomly as if it's the most normal thing in the world (which it kind of is nowadays), usually I also figure out very early in the interaction whether she's into women as well or not. If she's not (which I haven't seen yet) it'd be an obvious deal breaker.

From my experience the more "normal" the whole thing gets framed the more it gets met with curiosity and no real negative attachments. And as we all know if the woman is curious you already sealed half the deal. Bringing that shit up late in the interaction (3h+) or even after sex would be a no-go for me personally.

it's pretty shitty if you don't say something fairly early on, yes

a vast majority of people do the whole monogamous thing, so they're operating under the assumption that the person they are talking to is single.

Ok, i hate it but i need to vent here. Had dated this girl for the last 3 weeks. She is a very attractive, scarily intelligent and unbelievably sexy women. We have been fucking each others brains out for the last week, had good chemistry between each other but on the grand scheme of things, we were very different. Our live was basically opposite. But i thought, you know, there is that huge physical attraction, we like each others company, so, maybe it's gonna work out, you don't need to do everything together and sometimes, having differences is good. So, she came over today, we said maybe 3 sentences before ending in bed together. Then, she started to complain about her weekend, which was very stressful, so i comforted her, but she was obviously in a bad mood. Ok. At some point, i told her i was gonna go to friends, playing board games on friday and i would love to have her there as well. So, she started to tell me that she can't believe how childish i am and she cannot think about any men that would play something like that. And i replied, that i told her more then once, that i am doing role-playing and video games and she knows that this is a part of me and if she can't respect me for that, why would she bother with me. So she stood up, told me she better end it here and left.

WTF?

Just know that you are better off without her dude. That sort of judgmental attitude sounds like the epitome of childishness.

Yeah, if someone believes that someone's maturity is measured based on their hobbies, they're not worth your time.

No loss on your part dude, you can do better.

EDIT: I feel this video has solid relevance to this thread.

WTF?

She wanted to take out her stress on you and would have probably used any excuse.

Man, this dating game becomes so easy when you are happy and confident. In the last half year a lot has happened:
1. A girl offered me to have sex with her(
2. Another girl offered me to have sex with her
3. One night stand
4. 2 month ''relationship'' with a girl
5. I got turned down by a girl I had a crush on

And now I just went on a second date with another girl which I was crushing on. We kissed
The shitty thing is that we live 2 hours apart. The other shitty thing is that I double major in Math and Physics so I'm hardcore studying 60+ hours a week and it will be hard to find time
