Awesome games, the DRG anchor comeback was definitely worth the price of admission. Great start to what looks to be a great team league.

Motherfucker.

I still don't get the whole thing about getting angry for shouting "X for bonjwa" in the midst of the hype. But that's just me, I guess.

Bonjwa is the equivalent of stating "next Michael Jordan". It doesn't just mean somebody is good. It means somebody is in the discussion of GOAT. It's annoying when people exaggerate and overhype to a ridiculous degree. You don't see basketball commentators hype everybody who scored 30 points in a game the next Jordan.

There's a reason there was a backlash when Pippen called Lebron better than Jordan before he even won a single championship. Same reason here.

I don't follow basketball, so I wouldn't know about your examples, but I believe it's more or less the same chokke was arguing for, so my posts after the one you quoted has my view on your point.

In the end I think IM is not as deep as everyone think. It is pretty much Losira, Mvp, Nestea and friends. The other players are good, no doubt about that, but they are more or less as good as all the other "friend players".

Why do people always forget Yonghwa which has probably the best team results? He's one of the best protoss in the world in the same way DRG is for zerg, they just didn't manage yet to get the huge win streak they need to pass the qualifiers. Remember when LosirA finally made it through ? instant code A champion including a finals with his worst matchup.

IM has 4 monster players, with at least 1 of each race and at least 1 specialist on every matchup (LosirA is god against Protoss, Nestea against Zerg+P, Mvp against Z+T and Yonghwa agaisnt P, IMSeed is a beast on PvT as well), which technically makes them the most balanced and deep team on a tournament where you get 4 players on almost every match.

YongHwa didn't impressed me as much. He is solid at macro and PvP but not more than that. There is nothing where I would say, wow there so much potential to grow up fast. All his macro went like taking expos, turtling, roll with a death ball. Nothing special there, although he brought some new style PvZ. But that was a turtle one, too. That why I didn't count him over the most other players.

Motherfucker.

I still don't get the whole thing about getting angry for shouting "X for bonjwa" in the midst of the hype. But that's just me, I guess.

Because it ruins the term. He's nowhere near the status and it's generally stupid. Like shouting "OHH new bonjwa" whenever Flash loses a game in BW.
If you start going all "OOOH DRG for bonjwa" and he starts losing to a player, then by following the same logic you should go all "OOOOOH [whoever beats DRG] for bonjwa" and if he has a normal win/loss-rate, there would be alot of bonjwas, which is against the concept.
That is why shouting bonjwa whenever a player starts rising with an unorthodox style is stupid. It just needs to get figured out, or be concluded to be unfair (like 5-rax reaper).

Well, I disagree. I can't see how it's "ruining" the term. To me, shouting "X for bonjwa!" in the midst of hype, isn't any different from shouting "X is fucking amazing!". I think people should stop taking commentaries like "X for bonjwa" so seriously, in most cases, it's just someone who thinks the player is really really good. It's not like I'll stop appreciating how good BW bonjwas were just because the term is being used more loosely. I believe the term "bonjwa" is still exactly the same, and will always be, in the right context.

EDIT: Small clarification.

Yeah, but a Bonjwa requires a long period of dominance. A small period of performing well, or being excellent at one match up isn't not enough to call a player the next bonjwa. Especially when the player has done nothing spectacular 3 months later when they're style doesn't work so well any more.

If we watched Inca beat every top Protoss and that was the only match up we ever saw him play, people would call him the next bonjwa. For we all know DRG has mediocre ZvZ (I doubt it, but its possible). Would people still be saying that if we found out it was true over the next couple of weeks?

Even if his ZvZ is good enough, he's not that dominant in ZvT. He's probably the best, at the moment, but its not like he's run over every top Terran he's played. MMA beat him the first time they played, after DRG had a fairly hefty lead. He only beat sC 3-2 and he's yet to play Bomber, MVP or any of the oGs Terrans. I'd say its too early to even say he's going to win a code s.

DongRaeGu > NaDa on Dual Sight
DongRaeGu > SuperNoVa on Crossfire SE
DongRaeGu > MC on Crevasse

Look I'm not saying he is the next bonwja I think they should stop throwing the term around. But People should recognize DRG's Game and the results his posted so far. The way he drones up even after pressure and sometimes even holding pressure with drones. Granted he isn't Stork so his multi-task slips up and shows up as 'poor mutalisk control' But DRG is beast and makes team MVP a top contender almost by himself.

DRG is very good, but most teams are made contenders by a single player.

ST: Bomber - Relies on Ace/Squirtle to take down a game or two and throws in July to hope for a streak.

oGs: Almost purely MC + Friends (the sniping potential isn't that great)

Prime: MKP does not deliver in Team Leagues, so they have a lot of mid tier players. So really...just a lost cause.

TSL: aLive + friends

fOu: sC + friends

FXO: TBD, but probably Oz + friends or Sheth + friends

MVP: DRG + friends (though guinea pig is a very good sniper)

IM: The only team that's really balanced.

SlayerS: Although they have very even players (similar to IM), it's still seen as MMA + friends.

Youre right despite the TSL and the SlayerS thing. MMA isn't far above the other slayers players. He just could show some good results. Alicia for example is on the same level.

Also TSL is pretty even. aLive is no uberplayer. The other TSL players are pretty close to him from all what I saw, doesn't matter what the coach said about the inhouse ranking because he is a terrible coach. Clide has way more potential. Also I think PuMa right now is way better than aLive, his performance in the korean weekly was stunning.

Here's all of TSL games in all the GSTLs so far

vs Prime: aLive gets 3 wins and wins the match for TSL 4-1
vs ST: TSL nearly gets all killed by Ace 1-4
vs fOu: aLive gets 3 wins but can't close it out versus sC 4-2
vs IM: TSL nearly gets all killed by Mvp 1-4
vs fOu: aLive wins 2 but TSL still loses 4-3

So does TSL not only operate like Clide does in the individual leagues, always getting past the first round then getting murdered (with the exception of GSTL 3), aLive is 8-4, and TSL without him is 6-10. And no, PuMa is not better than aLive, especially b/c however impressive Puma was in the Korean Weekly, aLive won the first tournament, and didn't appear in the one that Puma did [win].

I don't like how poeple only decide how good a player is because of their accomplishments. Thebest for example was long in Code S. Isn't that greater accomplishment as many players have despite being one of the most terrible proplayers out there?

I think the right way is to watch what exactly the players are doing. Clide for example is one of the smartes players ever, he just seems to loose fokus at some time of the game. Without that he would be way better than aLive, sadly he isn't yet. Also if you watched korean weekly, PuMas showing was way better than aLives in all ways he executed things. aLive is solid but no one who has great potential to grow up in the scene, he just abuses the current metagame right.

DongRaeGu seems to just always dominate in the GSTL. It's odd how certain players do so much better in the team league.

Some players might be more inspired to perform for their team since if they lose it lets everyone down and not just that player.

Just finished watching the vods and damn DRG is so good. can't believe he isn't even in code A. Also glad boxer got a win. How many points does a team get for a win, is it 2? Also looking at the person in first place how did guinea pig get 4 points, that makes no sense.

The best part of the match was afterwards looking at the fantasy rankings and seeing just how many tools put DRG on their anti team.

I hope it's kind of a wakeup call for slayers team how close they've been the last 2 seasons. They won their first championship in the last game and they won the second championship in the last game. This was basicly the first time mma lost in an ace match, his almost reverse-kill being the only other time.

They could easily have been the "marineking" of teams with just second places. Maybe it's about time to revaluate their decision to always use terran players vs people who has zvt as their best matchup..

Really questionable decisions by Slayer's coaches. DRG just beat one of the top 5 terran in the world in a bo5 and then lost to a mediocre (compared to code S players) protoss in the GSL qualifiers, but slayers decides to throw terran players at him instead of protoss players. Idk, MMA obviously could beat him, but I think a protoss would have been a much better decision then ganzi
