Votes are in, and the game has begun!
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/xwXTg.jpg) Deity Difficulty, Random Leader, Continents, Huge map on Standard speed and we get...

Harumph. Suleiman. I just about wanted to reload at this point. But, I was going to stay true to my word and play this one out...lets see the start.

Not bad. Coast start, with Plains wheat 1SE and silver in two locations in addition to Ivory, more Silver, and Deer to the west. More to come!

Nice, and a river! that will be valuable once we get civil service. Opening fast NC into expo is probably the best strat. We can chop forests or something to rush the NC since we're near hills for production.
|
I decided to settle on the Silver in the SE, where I could get access to fish (which I found), wheat and forests for production, after some border pops. Went for Scout ---> Monument Started with Mining, but popped it with a ruin! On Deity! Whaaaaat?? So then I did Pottery ---> Writing. Going for NC start.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/bBXVI.jpg)
I got pretty lucky with ruins this time. In addition to Tech, I got

+1 Pop

+Culture, went Liberty---> Citizenship, and (no screeny) Barb encampment locations.
Eventually I run into my neighbors. Say hello to these ugly characters!

Gandhi to my SW, Askia to my W, still haven't found Darius yet. I suspect he may be to our South. Helsinski is the only City State I have met so far. Maritime ftw.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/mhn4R.jpg)
After Writing popped, I sold our Open Borders to the friendly civs (Askia and Darius) for 50g each. Then, borrowed 90g for 4gpt from Gandhi. Bugger still isn't friendly for 50g open borders, so I had to wait a few turns to buy the Library. This will set us back a little (sorry guys >.<) with the NC, and reduce the chances of us being able to rush the Great Library.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/P5wa2.jpg)
Now that those are done, I turn to our next tech path: Animal Husbandry --> Trapping --> Philosophy.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/1tf7B.jpg)
We have horses! I suggest getting stables asap.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/MUwje.jpg)
We were in the negative gpt, so I bought back our 4 and then some from Askia with our Silver.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/etKL3.jpg)
Then this joker shows up with his shiny bald head and a proposition.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/qpSyL.jpg)
I turned him down. We don't want to start playing the politics game and taking sides this early in the game when we can still get gold from people as friendly without DoFs. Plus there isn't anyone right next to us, so DoF with anyone isn't of any concern to us at this time.
After clearing the Barb encampment near us (forewarned by our goody hut turns ago), we could choose our next policy, Meritocracy. I debated on selecting a GE to rush the Great Library, but remembered how I blundered buying the library a few turns. So I chose a GS. Lo and behold, I was right! The very next turn someone else built the GL.

I suggest using him to pop Theology after Philosophy finishes to push us into the Medieval era. After that, if we find more city states, we can put into the Patronage tree to get us Scholasticism and bank our science on that. I am also in favor of quickly expanding to grab the luxuries out there as an alternative as well.
State of the World as of Turn 42 (yes, I went over a couple turns ):

Looks pretty good although Suleiman is like the worst leader we could get lol :D
Ivory, marble and a ton of silk to the west, doesn't look too bad. Good call to skip the great library, I almost always give up on wonders in the start at diety setting anyway, just too much of a gamble. Looking forward to seeing how our glorius empire will evolve next
I generally like the piety tree for some happiness/culture gain and eventually some bonus policies, what about you guys?
|
Oh.. I don't actually think I'm good enough to play this on Deity. Afraid I'll hold you guys back.
Sorry about that, I'm just going to withdraw. Best of luck!

Could have been worse, we could've gotten Elizabeth (and it's not Archipelago >.<)! lol
Well I think it is up to you to direct our glorious empire, because State has passed! Good luck!

Ah...good chap! See my signature! Who dares, wins, young lad! But that's okay. We'll not ridicule you for lacking spherical fortitude in the nether region. :D

Sorry for this aside, but I have not touched Civ 5 much since release, and I was wondering... Did the last few patches really make much of a difference?
After all the patches and expansions BTS was pretty great, and Civ5 obviously has and I'm sure still has a lot of issues, so I'm just wondering what people's perceptions are.
Anyway, this looks pretty cool, if I had actually played recently I'd hop in but I'm not up to par with all the new stuff like the changes to the policy trees!

Thanks, I will post my turns late sunday or maybe monday (CEST) because I can't play before then.

Sorry, but it seems the save requires some sort of dlc I don't have
|
|
I remember we had problems with it in the past and had to divide players into 2 groupd (with and without DLC).
|
Wow...fail on my part. Totally forgot to uncheck the DLC. What should we do now? Is there something we can do to fix this? Did you want to make a new game, Casta?

the only DLC I have is the mongolia DLC. If this uses a free DLC, I'm fine-- but if it requires a costed DLC it might be better if we redo it (and it's an excuse not to be sulieman!)

I am not entirely sure how to disable a dlc when playing the game. Read some stuff about it and it seems it doesn't matter if the particular civ is in the game or not, the savegame will still require the dlcs you have installed.
Also tried some program that should have fixed the save, but in the end it didn't work.
It is an old thread so maybe the program is just out of date, anyway I don't know how to update it.

If you know how to fix it so we can play with different dlc (I have the Denmark one only) start up a new game.

The problem may be that Babylon is actually in our game, concerning the tool. I do not know how to make so that we can continue this game. I will have to restart it, with handpicked non-DLC civs.
Edit: I did it. Try this one. We're Mongolia, and all the other Civs are not DLC civs. TL.net Succession

Same thing, the save requires babylon dlc.
Tried the tool again and it still didn't work, so unless we figure out some way to disable dlcs completely from the game I don't think we can play the same succession game :/

I'd be up for giving this a go, toss me in line.
edit:
I have the DLCs, since it seems like its a problem >.>
|
Casta, if you like, you can start one up so that you and the others can play. I'd hate to spoil our fun because of a design flaw that the developers didn't have the foresight to prevent.

Should we spin the non-DLC succession off into another thread?
