The TeamLiquid Starleague 4 opens this weekend with the first Round-of-32 broadcast, and we’re ready to set the stage. With the hours winding down until the tournament’s first games are played, it’s nearly time to unveil the bracket and show what is in store for the coming weeks.
The tournament will begin with the first broadcast Saturday, Jul 28 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00).
Bracket Show
On Tuesday, Jul 24 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) we will hold a live show to release the bracket, one section at a time. Day9 and djWHEAT will host the show and be joined by special guest WaxAngel, TL’s editor-in-chief and SC2 expert analyst.
Not only will they show the first round pairings, they will be going over the entirety of the bracket to see how all the pieces fit together. Discussing the stories of the players, they will talk about their play styles and chances of a tournament victory, what it will take for them to emerge a winner.

I like that TSL is working on being your friendly neighbourhood tournament- knowing all the players intimately, working over a longer time, etc. Really goes a long way to make up for the smaller prize-pool

Iam rooting for Liquid'KateUpton and Mill.Falcon. Normaly EG.LebronJames would be an easy pick but ever since he joined EG all his results have gone south. Can never count out Major though seeing as his relevance to the scene is so strong.
I can see how everything is mixed up (Seed / Race), obvious (and hilarious) name change, but if at least TL keeped the teams right (there are some teams missing or added), we should see Nani/Sase vs Fraer / Taeja vs Daisy / Ret vs Welmu /... well, whatever, too much differences in the teams as well, so most likely they are made up too :D I am sorry. gg hf
Is there a way I can find out how you guys are doing the seeding ? I am for most referring to the qualifiers with the separate regions. Or will this be explained on this show?
Well the top 3 seeds are Thorzain, Naniwa and Kas obviously. Then it logical to assume that the players with lowest point qualifier had lowest seeding and will therefor go up against these three. Not sure how the difference work between Korean and foreign qualifier.
My guess is that they start with last on Korean and then go to last on Foreign and keep going forward and back. Which get complicated by the fact that Coca and squirtle had a tie....
Meaning that Thorzain will go up against Squirtle (what a great prize to get for first seed), Naniwa get Coca.... but then Kas should not get a Zerg. Weird, should not be able to be two zergs ^^. Nah this is probably not it, there are so many zergs among the lower seedings for some reason, out of the 5 lowest seeds are 4 zergs, which do not match the point qualifiers.....
Then seeds 4-19 would be the winners of the qualifiers, after the order they won the qualifiers. This seems to be working, meaning that AcerofSeven is Daisy, LG-IM Predator is curious, MBC_Jabba is Nerchio, Liquid KateUpTon is Sting, Quantic Megatron is Sase.
Or haha wait it works to this point, but number ten is a terran, NW_JonSnow, which he should not be according to the prior system. Which could mean that this is rather the number 1 ranked player from points after this for a couple of seeds. Which should then be Select on the 1th place by foreign points which fits as a terran, and then 11 which should be winner of Korean which is Hyun which also fits the 11 th zerg slot, MVP BigFoot ^^

Matchup I'm most excited for HAS to be FXOChewbacca vs MVPJackieChan. I gotta give the edge to Chewie, but Jackie Chan can certainly pull off the upset, he's got better micro and multitasking but the brute force of chewbacca's macro should see him through to the next round.

Am I the only one who thought it was serious for like 10 seconds? I assumed there was one spot left in TSL4 so they made some weird open bracket for the last spot lol, and all these were no namers. Then I saw past the first few people and I realized.

Will this be the same for the entire TSL? Obviously I'd me more than happy to pay for TSL+, put having the option to review any missed matches would be awesome, so much better to mix it with real life that way Couldn't really find anything official about this, but I might nog have looked far enough.
haha, this was the ultimate way to actually get allmost everyone pumped for a bracketshow. First i was like "na not going to bother" but now im really getting psyced to watch this :D
It's interesting that the race balance in this bracket is different from the race balance of the qualified players, so either this bracket is entirely fake or a terran and protoss player had to pull out and were replaced by 2 zergs.
Edit: what the hell? Only one quantic player (should be Sase and Naniwa) and major showing up as zerg. Seems to be more to this than I first thought or they screwed up (unlikely)

Wanted to buy TSL4+, but man... So many PvZs (like every tournament lately) that it would be a waste of money, at least for me Just hope some Terrans will go through the 1st round and we will se some action as exciting as for example Ryung vs Stephano at MLG Arena.

Just got TSL+, so pretty damn excited for TSL4 to actually start. The big question is if it will have the same magic that TSL3 and 2 did, especially now with the huge amount of tournaments going on. Either way I will love it!

I'd argue that the guy who gets daisy, lalush or darkforce (Also major if you're a protoss) will be happier than other players.
I get a feeling this will inspire some hardcore balance whine, either select will go for cheesy play which is probably select's best shot and prompt the "terran cheese OP" from protosses or creator will make the late game and destroy select prompting "protoss late game OP".

Good draw for nerchio, darkforce is kind of in the same position of select where we know that he can be really good but has been really quiet this year bar Germany's WCS.

Why does daisy has lower seed than Sase and Nerchio?
Why should it matter that he won the first Qualifier? Did Nerchio and SaSe even play the first? Who did they play, had they stronger opponents? Just because it was the first qualifier to be held, doesn't mean he gets the best seed. Plus of course they may have considered other results and then it's pretty clear.

If it's not randomized then it makes more sense for them to reveal it afterwards otherwise people could just create the bracket themselves. I see no reason, though, why they wouldn't say anything if it was randomized.

All of the panel except for Waxangel are extremely foreigner biased.
Would be cool if someone actually referenced Ritmix RSL which happened earlier this month, where Kas and fraer played each other in the Upper Bracket final and in the Grand Finals.

Ret did win vs Puzzle at NASL (although Puzzle might be jetlagged like hell at that time), so he still has a decent chance vs Squirtle. It's tough though
Seeding seems to be: TSL3 top 3 first Then qual-winners in order of TLPD ELO, but alternating between Korea and EU/NA. So Taeja is seed 4 as highest ELO from KR, then Nerchio, the winner with the highest ELO in EU/NA, then ST_Curious as second highest KR ELO, etc...

If Naniwa was playing PvT I'd agree but Naniwa has lost to Zergs recently you certainly wouldn't expect a Code S Ro8 Protoss player to lose to.
He also took DRG down to a 5th game though. Tbh I think a lot of the matches are going to come down to whether the favourite prepared, and if not is that overall skill advantage enough that they can beat a player who is preparing specifically to beat them. A lot of TSL3's upsets partly came down to the top Koreans not taking their matches seriously and I don't think it will be any different, especially for the players already preparing for their GSL games.

It's not that weird, if you've watched his games recently you'd know that PvZ is Creator's best by far and he has a pretty cool way of playing it.
Hoping for Jonnyboy to do well and First as well, but I think Creator will win it all.

that's gonna be a great match, one of the best in ro32 imo. Both players are awesomely good, and Hyun just beat Major in a Playhem finals 2-1 like a week ago or so...
the bracket show had awesome commentary, but I feel like the video is missing something...maybe for the next video, adding gameplay footage of match-ups while the commentators are talking, might make it more interesting to watch rather than just listening in?
just an idea, but maybe the sponsor logos can be made smaller and moved to the top left corner, while the bottom right area would make a good area to show highlight videos of the players that the commentators are talking about.
