I won't retell the entire tale of CharlieMurphy, but here's the long and short of it: Guy registers on TL, posts a lot, posts badly, gets banned (x10), kind of tries to improve, keeps posting badly, keeps getting banned, eventually gets permabanned after like 15-16 temp bans. I wasn't around when he was, so I obviously didn't experience this firsthand, but as far as I'm aware this is approximately correct. Users who have been around for a few years don't really just get perma-banned straight up, unless they have some previous mod history. In Charlie's case, he had a lot of it.

Oh yeah, that's true.
He was allowed back on his alt account, SpoR, where he had a LOT of bans, as well, and was eventually permed, too, not too many months ago, if i'm not mistaken.

In my version of a perfect world, everyone who posts "haters gonna hate" would be insta-banned.
It's an annoying way to basically say "I think my opinion is completely superior to yours but, instead of taking the time to engage you in disscussion or provide evidence to my claim I'm going to completely and arbitrarily dismiss you".

People who use "haters gonna hate" in that context are using it wrong. One shouldn't be using it in an argument. It should only be used when someone is hating on you, especially for silly reasons.
Example:
Guy on ladder is raging at you because you play terran. Haters gonna hate.
