I kind of want to write a satirical milestone blog post and impersonate him, but that probably wouldn't end well.

I thought Xiphos was already banned?

Was it the dating thread that finally did Xiphos in?

HB Farva!, I couldn't track down the post, so I also had imagined a Dr. Strangelovian table around which all the mods convened and decided his fate.

Yeah. It was his post in the dating thread. Looks like he had a nasty mod history so... Farewell I guess.

The Iraq thread is an unfortunate example of why international politics discussion just doesn't work.
|
That's nonsense; it's instead an example of what happens when an overly lenient moderation standard runs up against blatant nationalist apologism. The same thing happened in the Ukraine thread.

A naïve interpretation of facts can make an unusual situation, such as one that simply does not arise in the US or West Europe, look like blatant nationalist apologism. Sometimes it's better not to be so judgmental.

Naïveté can manifest itself in a variety of ways; if you'd like to substantiate pls no ty's position that Turkey has literally committed no wrongs in the past weeks and accordingly substantiate your condescension, you are free to do so.

Certainly he's made banworthy mistakes, but the combative nature of most in that thread is entirely unjustified.

Don't forget that the US has done no wrong, ever. I have a source from the US that says so. Ban anyone that doesn't agree with me! They are evil, the TV said so.
And remember kids, its only non-biased if it panders to my beliefs.
edit: regarding pls no: Well he did say he wouldn't post in the thread anymore. 'Kick me or not' could mean a lot of things to someone who's first language isn't English but I guess it was taken as martyring? I didn't really agree with the way he put his opinions forward (with the 4chan arrows), but especially after that first ban he should have put more thought into how he was going about expressing his views... Everybody has a right to their own opinion, but you should go about it without insulting others.
I guess this is what we get when somebody is exposed to TL only through the medium of current affairs General threads. There is a core of highly toxic, confrontational keyboard warriors who openly attack/insult and suffocate any discussion they deem as 'not going the way they want it to'. This poor Turkish boy/girl must have seen the way these people are acting and thought this is normal on TL. What he/she didn't realize is that you have to be in the majority to act like a dick.
Let us reflect on the negative affects of General forum on people today, and find ways to educate new users before they enter that cesspool.

Except that no one says the US has done no wrong, since the US is a society that reflects on its sins. Doesn't necessarily fix them, but almost all Americans are willing to discuss them without resorting to vitriol. And the same is true of Germans, British, Danish, Philipinos, Australians, South Africans, Kenyans, Algerians...
But we ban people who disobey guidelines. If you had a crazy nationalist from any country who called everyone who disagreed with them a racist, the community would reject and remove them. If you had a genocide denier from any country, they'd get banned too.
Cultures differ, but a nationalistic or patriotic culture is no excuse for being unable to engage in rational discourse.

Someone really should write up a Xiphos memorial.
