Some real 1984 shit going on in the place crash thread, don't even think it will produce any good bans for us.

nunez, was donning his tin foil hat some, even if it was tongue in cheek.

huzzah for nunez bans; I wonder how many it'll take before he gets a major long term ban.

Thank god zeo finally got banned. He reminds me why there are so many crazy ultra-nationalists in the Balkans. He's like an idea pitbull. Once he bites into an idea, his jaws lock, and he won't let go no matter how hard you hit him with evidence. I've heard that pitbulls don't even let go after they die.

I only read the final few pages of the Ukraine thread after Zealously linked it on the plane crash thread. Seemed to me that it got closed mainly because of zeo vs Cheerio. Though I have to say that I think zeo is the crazier of the two.

Holy Ukraine Crisis.
I suppose those overly stringent rules there were necessary after all.

Those two were simply among the most long-lived members.
It had runaway Twitter-based runaway speculation, propaganda news sources abound (from both sides), endless personal insults, attacks on countries, and it raised hell in the feedback thread. The mods said it really brought out the worst in otherwise contributing members and there really was no good way to keep it alive, which I'm afraid I have to agree with.

Just look how awful and impossible to reconcile those are in just 9 pages.

either that or, just bans. It was more they didn't want to do the effort to keep the thread in line(though that was mostly just banning the usual problem people anyways).

Nah, the mods basically said they couldn't be bothered to moderate the thread.
Also they previously didn't want to moderate nunez before, so he basically had free reign to go shit on everybody, because they said he was an important contributing member to TL.

There was definitely not enough action in that thread, it needed a hardline policy like the one currently in effect. Moderators in Ukraine Crisis thread were waaaaaaaaaaay too nice, especially to repeat offenders like nunez, zeo, and cheerio, who can often be good posters in other threads. I'm liking the way the current thread is shaping up. Lots of bans instead of warnings is a good first step!

The other problem is that the high-contributing members were also liable to be the shitposters.
The policy in the new thread is more of an admission that the discussion on Ukraine cannot be had, and that you will be banned for trying.
