User was banned for a catastrophic failure to read the topic, understand the purpose of it and read the mod note. Five posts. We hardly knew ye... Is it just me, or does it seem like Romanians have a much higher perm rate? It's really not about questions of faith or even gay rights really, it's about how a religion exists and operates within a secular society. In the context of UK laws this bill would see a fundamental change by essentially allowing religious organisations to opt out of the progress the rest of society makes with a unique grant of immunity. It's an interesting subject imo. Implying Society makes progress. Yes let's all go back to living in 11th century Turkey. Not sure if serious. People really take all the civil rights development through the 19th and 20th century for granted >_>. Assuming my post had anything to do with Civil Rights. 11th Century Turkey saw the rise of Persian Culture and the unification of the Arab world against the Crusaders. The Seljuq Empire brought many people together, surely an eventful time to live in. My problem with society lies in the direction it is heading. Radio's playing the same repetitive message, television controlling the mindless masses, interpersonal communication breaking down, and the rise of people's wants misconstrued as needs. People following the beaten path, doing so because they are told it is the moral way, the correct way. Countless prescriptions to cure problems we don't have, countless self-help books promising to help change you into something better. Sea's of people drown into apathy from the broken promise of grandeur followed by the slow realization that it was fairy-tales. The loss of all pride in their work, hatred of work and school. Most importantly the destruction of lasting social ties. People going threw life believing that your self-worth is tied to what you own, how many partners you've had, where you live. The abundance of people thats led to a grass is greener mentality. Our society is one where divorce is in fashion, people trained to believe in woman as objects of lust, greed taking over all reason, people doing selfless deeds not out of care, but because they were told it looks good on a job and college application. Tunnel vision on the advancement of Civil Rights doesn't change the rest of society going to crap.
Everything you are saying is true, but all you've done is outline events that occur as the result of destructive forces with in society, the destructive forces themselves haven't changed in nature, the process of application and scope has just changed. There really isn't any point of get anecdotal, how many untold millions upon billions have we already had who have listened to the same messages through theocracies and dictatorships, following the beaten path because the Pope told them it's the moral way, wallowing in mediocrity, etc etc. All of the phenomenon you've outlined has always existed, and arguably much much worse earlier on in civilization than today.
The forces and incentive to do work against that destructive process however has changed significantly, viewpoints which are very fundamental in the treatment of gender, the worthiness of life, and so forth, which is why the civil rights movement is useful in highlighting it. To suggest that society hasn't advanced in complexity, that it hasn't diversified in cultural and ethical understanding, is simply wrong. There's always room for improvement and it's unbelievable what a shit hole the world really is and how horrendous human beings can be to each other even to this day, but there has been progress in development in the meaningful ways which impact lives. Even if it's just creating the options and potential for events to occur in the future. I don't know how you can really quantify progress in any other manner, one person's vision of a Utopian wonderland may be a dystopian nightmare for someone else.
I will back off the argument now though since we talk about the bans here :< sorry

Getting back to the topic at hand.......
JimmyJRaynor was just temp banned for 1 week by GHOSTCLAW.
That account was created on 2010-04-11 22:42:46 and had 1170 posts.
Reason: warned for continually bashing NASL without posting anything truly constructive....and then you keep doing it. Maybe this isn't the place for you.
May this particular Randroid with an intense dislike for the NASL rest in 1 week peace. If only he were more selfish

What the hell... did every ban in the ABL always have a timestamp on it? Did I seriously just never notice? What the fuck. That seriously rocked my world to the core. I don't even know what to do with my life anymore, I'm undergoing an existential nightmare.

Have you been banned before? This is a bit of an over reaction.

UnholyRai was just temp banned for 1 week by KadaverBB. That account was created on 2010-09-25 11:09:10 and had 697 posts. Reason: This is not the proper way to respond to a warning. Show nested quote +got warned for that, didn't realise that you aren't allowed to agree with someones' view in nazi-occupied poland. I am baffled by what UnholyRai said. Do you think he meant "disagree"? Or is he suggesting that in Nazi-occupied Poland everyone was required to have unique opinions and any form of agreement was forbidden?
After checking out his post history it seems he really did mean "agree" :o

+1 or "this" posts aren't acceptable as contributing posts even if they are in agreement on TL, and it's a bad idea to call the Mods Nazi's =P

It just seems like a massive overreaction, as well as a bizarre interpretation of history, that Nazi's would not tolerate agreement. And he also complained about his warning in the same thread, which has got many posters into trouble before. It was as though he was trying to get banned
