User was banned for a catastrophic failure to read the topic, understand the purpose of it and read the mod note. Five posts. We hardly knew ye... Is it just me, or does it seem like Romanians have a much higher perm rate? It's really not about questions of faith or even gay rights really, it's about how a religion exists and operates within a secular society. In the context of UK laws this bill would see a fundamental change by essentially allowing religious organisations to opt out of the progress the rest of society makes with a unique grant of immunity. It's an interesting subject imo.

interesting subject yes, quite hard to discuss with people thou. to me it looks like when ever you bring up religion in an argument people get really really angry and post really really stupid stuff

It's because they're always to be taken seriously, am I right? ;-P

When has that ever happened.

the thread was quite fine before i left for an appointment. has it devolved since i left? some of the people (including kwark) bring up interesting issues, and at least i was having a personally thought-provoking discussion.
edit: oh, the streak of red on the last page..... =(

Bobgrimly was just temp banned for 2 days by KwarK.
That account was created on 2010-07-08 12:01:29 and had 204 posts.
Reason: 03:53: You start an argument about religious doctrine in a topic on which it has no bearing on a forum where it is unwelcome. 03:59: The argument begins
*****SUDDENLY****** On December 12 2012 04:08 KwarK wrote: Guys, whether or not God hates fags is not going to be decided by you shitting up my topic. Take it to PMs, it's simply not relevant to whether or not religions have the right to discriminate.

*****SUDDENLY***** banned
I'm just going to pretend he was banned for insulting my reading comprehension

Personally I think society has only made progress in food. Just imagine the world before bacon. Now be thankful, yea.

Yes let's all go back to living in 11th century Turkey. Not sure if serious. People really take all the civil rights development through the 19th and 20th century for granted >_>.

That's a pretty interesting question which I'm not sure I want to answer, but I must say this is complicated philosophy for this thread^^

I was just making a joke. It's amusing if you take what he said as a complete sentence, as opposed to a fragment

Society does make progress by providing the social atmosphere and zeitgeist to facilitate social change, whether you take that collective of human will as reactionary to individual thought or proactive as a consciousness of its own is up to debate.

I don't want to argue about this because this is a topic near and dear to my heart and I have complicated opinions about it. I just want us to appreciate the hilarious sentence "Implying Society makes progress."

Assuming my post had anything to do with Civil Rights.
11th Century Turkey saw the rise of Persian Culture and the unification of the Arab world against the Crusaders. The Seljuq Empire brought many people together, surely an eventful time to live in.
My problem with society lies in the direction it is heading. Radio's playing the same repetitive message, television controlling the mindless masses, interpersonal communication breaking down, and the rise of people's wants misconstrued as needs.
People following the beaten path, doing so because they are told it is the moral way, the correct way.
Countless prescriptions to cure problems we don't have, countless self-help books promising to help change you into something better.
Sea's of people drown into apathy from the broken promise of grandeur followed by the slow realization that it was fairy-tales. The loss of all pride in their work, hatred of work and school.
Most importantly the destruction of lasting social ties. People going threw life believing that your self-worth is tied to what you own, how many partners you've had, where you live. The abundance of people thats led to a grass is greener mentality.
Our society is one where divorce is in fashion, people trained to believe in woman as objects of lust, greed taking over all reason, people doing selfless deeds not out of care, but because they were told it looks good on a job and college application. Tunnel vision on the advancement of Civil Rights doesn't change the rest of society going to crap.

That's some pretty hardcore nostalgia fallacy going on there.

lol I make fun of the guy and then it turns out he's kinda on my wavelength
I feel like we should observe the content-free sanctity of ABL however
