You think most of the people here take the position that someone can't be genuinely correct or insightful on one occasion, but behave like a buffoon on another?

Reason: "Because it is generally composed of nerds with high intelligence but low social skills who get traumatized daily by jocks, cool kids, mean hot girls, asshole relatives and everyone in between. As a result they have developed an obsession with "manners", a principle that you should never insult or disrespect anyone, which unfortunately is both biased and unrealistic since some of us hold flaming in high regard as a particularly volatile and entertaining form of wit (god bless Black Adder).
On top of that, due to the politics of TL the site has a burgeoning gay community which appears to be highly involved when it comes to persecuting people like Destiny or anyone who uses foul language since they identify their trolling and slurs with the abuse they have been taking for their sexual orientation."
very rude generalizing and insensivitiy This guy is funny. Really loled reading that. It does have a ring of truth to it though. Please explain what ring of truth there is to that statement. Well he is basically saying that nerds by dint of being nerds are usually socially inept and as a result become the targets of mockery by more socially savvy individuals which in turn affects the culture among nerds in such a way that they become quite sensitive to the slightest provocation. It actually makes sense. Think about it, if you were socially abused constantly by the people around you, you would tend to become quite a defensive individual almost to the point of crippling your development as a social creature. You'd take massive offense to any quip that carries even the slightest tint of negativity. People who aren't used to social exile can handle being the butt of the joke quite gracefully and even amplify their perceived faults for the sake of humor in their social group. You think that TL has plenty of these people? + Show Spoiler + I would say a majority are. I've been here and there around the internet and I've never seen a more sensitive bunch than on TL.Net. Their behavior is consistent with what I've observed from nerds in real life. I've seen many a discussion quickly go south because of how easily people here take offense to ideas of others. The sheer tenacity with which you guys persecute each other astonishes me sometimes, especially with charged topics like religion, politics, sexuality etc. One thing that is common among nerds is how viciously they attack any idea that conflicts with their own, usually naive world view. I see that here all the time.
If you want proof, just make a humorous post ragging on gays, feminists, or christians and see how quickly you get banned here. If you ever observed really socially savvy people operate, the most popular ones usually have a dark, stinging sense of humor and are unafraid to make light fun of topics that many would consider quite serious and here we come to the crux of the matter, why are nerds usually socially inept ? While I'm sure that one can write a 10 paragraph essay on this, it really comes down to one thing, they take shit way too seriously. A master of dark, edgy humor usually dominates any social setting. He is the guy that everyone wants around when they decide to hit the town for a night out. He's the guy that says what everyone is thinking but too afraid to say and they love him for it. Nerds because they're so used to being bashed by their non-nerds peers become extremely averse to dark humor because they can empathize more than most with the would-be victims of such humor. They are also fair game to such humor.
A good example of this was can be found in a thread here I saw recently. It was some thread about an SC2 player who is transgendered. I believe it was a fan club thread. So there I am reading through this thread. I see the usual, "sign me up" or "Wow awesome,[insert praises here]" kind of posts. Then boom "ITS A TRAP" right outta nowhere. When I saw it, I laughed, I mean I found it really funny. Does that make a bad person ? Does it make me a hater of transgendered people ? No....it was quite funny and that's all it was. He referenced a line from Star Wars I believe it was, that fit perfectly into the frame of this topic. That's harmless dark humor. It doesn't mean he is out trying to hang transgenders. He is just a funny guy that likes to talk shit. However, this user got a temp ban for this. I didn't find that ban worthy but its like I said, nerds cannot fathom dark humor, too many a time they are the subject of such humor for the amusement of others and it hurts them deeply so they instinctively lash out harshly whenever it is employed within their domain weather its against them or others within their sphere.
User was not really banned for this post but was instead banned for his post history as a whole. Hehe, that was amusing. Thanks for finally getting banned, almost all of your posts were terrabad.

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone that type of PUA behaviour that he was advocating as a means to get "honeys". And I'm not going to speculate about his personal life with regards to having "actually fallen in love before" because I'm really not that well-versed in psychology or this idea of deducting people's past just through their posts. (other than realising when people are so insecure they lash out at others, but I digress)
The thing is what he was talking about in said girl blogs was very true. This was really hard for me to accept, being a bit of a romantic myself, but upon further analysing what he said seemed to match reality as far as I can tell. He was correct that few people on this website know their way with women (something I would've probably not agreed as easily on, beforehand), his analysis of attraction and how to keep women interested in you without risking losing them also seemed rather spot on. Again, I do not agree with his methods (as efficient as they might be) of picking up women nor do I condone the PUA movement. But I have to say that upon taking his posts and examining them through the lens of anecdotal evidence that is my own personal experience and the personal experience of almost every guy that I've discussed this matter with, what he says seems to be true for a majority of women. Now I would never claim that something applies to every one of a sufficiently large group of people, especially considering we're talking about roughly half of the global population, but again, it seems to be true for a majority of women.
Where he was wrong though was the false dichotomy of "you're either a spineless pussy or a confident stallion that wrings in dozens of chicks" (not his actual words nor paraphrasing btw). There is a middle way but honestly that seems not very likely to pull off.
But really this isn't the place for me to be discussing this with you. I just wanted to share my opinion on why his posting history doesn't seem to me an acceptable reason to perm him from the website. If you want to, Shady, we can gladly take this to PMs.
I would also appreciate a mod explaining a bit more thoroughly why his post history was perm-worthy, but if not I don't really mind.

Maybe he was permed for this:

Fuck I refreshed and didn't get to see it.

What was it?
Also ABL about to synchronize page number with this thread.

He was flaming Shady. I didn't read much before I refreshed though :/

Oh come on, now even Shady/romantic has someone who registered specifically to hate on him...name wasn't a parody, but still.
At this rate I'll be the last one to have someone register to diss me.
I must say, though, our moderation squad is S-class. Maybe at some time between 11 pm and 7 am PST there aren't as many on (very very roughly, not sure exactly what it is), but overall they just shut shit down.

Reason: Upgrading to a ban.
You see, when you post insane conspiracy theories you devalue any possible discussion and invalidate anything sensible you might say. Glad he got banned. Took a look into the legalize weed thread, see a bunch of crap posted by him.
