We just had a different guy get banned recently for admitting he raped someone. Maybe I've been reading too many stories of the kind, but there are plenty of people who have tipped their hand online about suicide attempts, crimes committed or some other psychological problems. Maybe it will turn out to be just a run of the mill trolling attempt but this dude gives me a creepy feeling that is he is maybe more than just a standard bad poster.

Deleuze is right, that's not cool. You can't point at someone as a probable rapist for being involved in a hobby you don't like. There's a big jump between skeezy and dangerously criminal.

Ok, sorry. I guess I was reading too much into it. Some of the things he was talking about just sounded like stalking to me. That other poster just left me a bit sensitive to these sort of things.

That was due to admitting to being a rapist, and on top of that bragging about it and seeming unapologetic. It would be a perm either way, but that guy kicked the scum bag up several notches. Sqautiing was kinda creepy, but in part it was to due tutorials on how to pick up women. He was kinda nasty, but he strikes me as full of himself more than full on danger mode. So yeah creppy, but not enough to justify that post.

i completely disagree. calling it a shoulda woulda coulda whatever thing is the only insult to these people i can see. government control on anything is about weighing up the pros and cons and making a balanced informed choice on what the average idiot can handle. cars are bad for us, they kill people when used badly and they polute the atmosphere. but on the plus side they help the economy and allow people to be more sociable. even something as simple as driving, or as complex as drug control is about pros vs cons, there is no wholly good or wholly bad topic.
refusing to talk about gun control and your nations views on it at all whenever a negative side affect of it shows up not only does a disserve to your people, by making you look stupid to people in other countries (look at these idiots ignoring their problems) but it also fuels the arguments of the gun lobby by making all negative arguments taboo. if you refuse to talk about the down sides of loose gun control, that leaves just the positives. this is what, from the outside looking in, leads to americas frankly crazy choices on gun control, no one is willing to talk about the negative affects of your choices.
i can understand the mods choices to disallow gun control talk in that thread, its a sad topic and theres already another thread for the discussion. but just look at the the recently bumped threads, no one is talking about gun control at the moment full stop, either here or in the wider discussion. and if they do they get accused of being a liberal communist who hates freedom by fox news.
there have been threads in the past that have glorified guns to a certain extent, tales of people defending themselves and in those threads talk of "yay guns" doesnt get moderated, i dont believe this is a concious effort by the TL staff to be pro gun in any way but what it does feel like is that it once again adds to the lopsided discussion you see americans have. when anti-gun conversation comes up, almost universally around a topic where someone has died (go figure) people dont want to discuss guns, they want to grieve for the family, and thats understandable but when pro-gun conversation comes up its left free to run wild so to speak.
im not even going to get in to the gun lobby in washington as thats a whole other can of worms more related to money in american politics anyway.

On the note about Cassanova, I have been doing a lot of digging today. He is an amazing subject. While rarely as interesting as CharlieMurphy, he is much more single-minded and finds ways to justify his actions into neat little boxes. Good stuff.
