I can only really try to do my part at the moment, of course. I think this thread is/used to somewhere where fairly straight users would post, so it would be a shame to see it degenerate to be viewed as some sub-par spam-fest by the greater part of TL where bans occur regularly for bad posting. As for the clique thing, I'd agree. I wouldn't say that I feel superior in posting here, but I do feel at home here as opposed to any other sub-community on TL. I guess the point is that it shouldn't be about a tight-knit group that is impenetrable from the outside, but rather an open landscape where anyone is free to come in and discuss the topic at hand; whereas before it's been a small group of people, doing anything but discussing bans. The ABL shouldn't be a scary place like the KMD, and I hope it never degenerates into something like that, although I think for a little while we've been going down the wrong path in that respect. | ||

It's hard to apply standards for discussion specifically. You're not going to get large manifestos regarding kpop and kidols or carefully-crafted posts qualifying multifarious minutiae; there are right/better paths only on a case-by-case basis for certain subcommunities and it's hard to say really the direction a community should take unless it very clearly is betraying its very purpose/roots, especially if you cannot really consider yourself a member of said community. | ||

I visit the KMD somewhat regularly, and I see that it's now become a lot better, but it's hard to shake off a reputation once you've gotten it. Anyway, the KMD comment was just an off-handed thing, didn't mean anything hostile with it. | ||

I never really knew because GSL games usually air too late for me to watch/read threads in the US, but now that they're live while I'm awake and the threads move considerably more slowly than MLG/DH threads for instance, you really can see what's going on :x hard to believe some of these guys aren't getting a warning for useless one-liners(TL tm)+acute desire for a cheese pairing with their wine | ||

Usually I'm to excited etc to care anyway and MLG/Dreamhack LR threads move along too quickly for me to notice :3 Fortunately no bans came out of the thread so far and it seems to have cooled down, looks like we're in for a smooth ride for the rest of the group. Balance whine bans are the least exciting, usually nothing new and just sort of annoying to deal with, I can see where the mods are coming from when they say that most of the time banning people isn't really fun, just annoying and rather depressing at times :S | ||

Reason: either that was a robot, or i just killed some dude who was CRAZY about air jordans Thanks, vGi-CoW; that was my first smile of the (rather shitty) day. The ABL always comes through for me when I need it :-D. Unfortunately, the post was nuked, so there's no way to know just how excited ol' v-bag got about his Air Jordans. It was yet another case of a ban-worthy first post landing in the 10 Commandments thread, which makes me wonder if there is some reason that bots tend to identify that thread in particular as a likely target for advertising. | ||
