DC LAN #8 happened a couple weeks ago and was a great success. Anfield(teamless) beat LgNAvilo in the finals 3-1 to win his first ever DC LAN. I expect him back to try and defend his title among a whole host of the usual challengers and hopefully some new ones! The LAN center worked out amazing in general (dispite a few issues with smoke and space) we're pretty much a go right now for monthly lans.

I'm thinking about doing a straight up double elimination bracket this time. Seeded by TLPD players and previous DC LAN results. Any thoughts? I'm open to whatever format people would prefer, prehaps a poll? Voting will close 1 week before the LAN.

i was just thinking about the amount of time it would take, but since the games are played in parallel then it wouldnt add any extra time, just an extra layer of organization

I'm thinking about just paying 20 bucks to go to the lan for 12 hours and hang with friends/play whatever then pay 20 dollars to lose all my matches in a tournament then get kicked off after <12 hours (as 20 bucks = 12 hours at that place)

its not 20 bucks straight to the lan center, its 10 the lan center and 10 to the tournament prize pool.
so its more like you're paying for 6 hours of pc time. 11am-5pm or so. I tried my best to keep people on till at least 5pm last time, but the lan center did start pressuring me at around 4pm I think.

Have all of these been in northern Virginia thus far? I know there are some very talented players in the MD suburbs. I'm in Old Town so I could just shoot down Duke/the turnpike, but places like Annandale seem a little exclusive, no?

So far they have all been in Northern Virginia(at least the ones I've been to) but I always tell people this is the "DC LAN" so if you live in the VA MD DC area you should come down! We have people drive down from PA to come hang out and play so I wouldn't say these are exclusive. If you know a lot of good players in your area get them together and all car pool down together

Ah OK, yea, to be fair Annandale has the best Korean food. I worked there for a year ... you gotta go to 가보자 (formerly 가로바) off Columbia Pike just west of John Marr by the Cafe Tu Anh. They've got the best Hue Dup Bap (salad on rice with fresh sushi fish on top) for like $6, comes with soup, kimchi, garlic broccoli, the whole nine yards. And there's a place a block away with really good black bean sauce noodles.

funnily enough, this is one of the few LAN centers within a reasonable distance (<1hr drive) of the MD/VA/DC area; they basically don't exist outside of Annandale since it's Koreatown and all =/
if there were some universities that had computer labs open to non-students (and with policies open to for cash tournaments), or if people were interested in a BYOC LAN we might have more varied locations
as for travel complications, I'd totally willing to give a rides to the venue if there were people in MD that needed them

You can also get to Annandale via Ballston -> 25A -> 16B? Something like that (I had to do this a couple months from Ballston years ago). It's a bitch but possible. I think there also might be some buses running directly from Pentagon stop.

Yes you can, there isn't an all-day pass but rather, 12 hours = $20. $2 per hour.

I just learned that the appraiser is headed to my house to put a number on it. Not sure if I'll be able to make this one, perhaps next time! Not sure how they picked the time, but its perfect for screwing up my plans (10am to noon). I could head out after they're done but I'd be over an hour late and wouldn't want to hold it up.
Watch out for #10 (assuming this is more regular), I'll be ready

Thanks to everyone who came out to play yesterday, it was good hanging out with old friends and meeting some new guys!

Congrats to FiN for dominating top 4, it was awesome having a PvZ finals for the first time in SC2 DC LAN history(Not sure about BW ) Also Congrats to Anfield for taking 1st place two times in a row we'll see if you can keep up that streak next month
