What:
It's a late night Barcraft, as we've got the GSL Code S finals coming to America for the second time ever, and they'll be happening at IPL5 in Vegas! Given the times, that means we'll be Barcrafting it up pretty late - it depends on how well the players cooperate, but we could easily be going into the wee hours of the morning with this thing This is looking to be one of the last events of the year we'll be able to Barcraft, so make sure to make it out if you can!

The GSL Finals themselves are shaping up to be quite the event, with all four of the players remaining surprise upsets to make it this far. We have two Zergs - TSL_HyuN, a Zerg player from the BW era who's shown some amazing play in the last few seasons, finally making it (almost) all the way, and MVP_Sniper, a solid Zerg player who simply has never managed to shine, until now. And we have two Terrans - STX_INnoVation, a solid Terran player from the KESPA teams, one of TL's elephants in the room, and Axiom's Ryung, another absolutely rock solid Terran who's also never managed to make it this far into the GSL tournament, despite a solid macro playstyle with very few holes. All four of these players could take the Code S trophy, depending on how they play. It's a little sad (and odd) to see the Protoss fall as early and as quickly as they did, given how strong they've been lately, but we've got a semi-finals and potentially a grand finals harking back to the original days of the GSL and the many great battles between Terran and Zerg opponents in their finals.

The schedule for the Barcraft should be:
9:30PM - Initial set up and streaming.
10PM - Start watching some of the GSL World All-Stars tournament from 10PM-11PM as a warmup.
11PM - The GSL Code S Finals begin!

So here’s the deal. If you know what Starcraft is then you should already be Baneling bursting with excitement and making plans to attend. If you play on your laptop like me, then bring it. If you’ve got a desktop, and you are comfortable bringing your setup then by all means, Bring It. The monitor too. I want nothing more than to have players in the same physical space playing the game of Starcraft and getting a sense of the community around this game. If you can’t make it out then log in online, join the “SCTuesdays” group, and play with us. Online forums and in-game chat are great but they lack a significant amount of personal substance when there’s no foundational face-to-face interaction underneath it. So if you can, come out. Play. Watch. Eat. Have fun. If it stays popular, maybe we’ll even stream some pro tourney matches and have a real Barcraft, but that can’t happen if no one comes.

Now if you don’t play Starcraft and think that this isn’t for you, allow me to reprogram you. Blincos is a SPORTS BAR. There’s plenty of things to do besides watch a bunch of nerds play computer games. The food is fantastic and inexpensive. They have 2 pool tables, some arcade games, about 40 flat screen TVs playing all kinds of sports, and oh yeah, a FULL SERVICE BAR! By all means, come and just experience what an awesome place Blincos is as a sports bar. Who knows, maybe you might even take up a small interest in Starcraft if you watch a game or two. I just want to get as many people there as I possibly can. You do not have to play Starcraft to come. First and foremost this event is about building a sense of community and connecting with people. If for no other reason, just come to hang out!

If you can't bring your PC, don't worry - you can still hang out with your fellow SC2 & e-sports fans, and maybe even hop in-game on someone else's PC, as folks are pretty awesome about sharing. Do keep in mind that this is a bar & restaurant, so be mindful of food/drinks near the electronics.

What:
Watching StarCraft II pro-gamers battle it out live, in a bar! Saturday late night will be the GSTL finals, being held outside of Korea for the first time ever, and one of the few chances we'll have to hold a BarCraft for a Korean event. There's a reason that Korean pro-gamers are so feared, and we'll get to see 'em in action. The very next day, starting at 7PM (which is a good thing, given how late the GSTL might run), we'll have the IPL4 Finals streaming to the bar as well. Both events will be held in their ginormous 'Canes room, with three big HDTV's. Grab your friends, have them grab their friends, be sure to come out for two great events that'll make this an awesome weekend of StarCraft!

What:
Back to the bar to watch some more great SCII play. For the Spring Arena, MLG has gone all out, putting together an amazing gathering of casters which combined with their high production values should make for one hell of a show. They even have an analyst from each race (Sheth, QXC, and Axslav) to break down the match up after each game. Even with a small pool of only eight players, this should definitely be a solid event (and c'mon, everyone wants to see the inevitable MKP vs. DRG finals).

An amazing packed weekend of StarCraft! Right after the SCTuesdays Open Tournament wraps up on Saturday night, we'll start up the VOD's from the GSL finals from the night before for GSL 2012 Season 2. The Global Starcraft League is consistently the best SCII tournament around, with the top players in the world fighting for the prestige of a GSL championship (and the money ain't bad either). TL did a great writeup as usual about the upcoming finals - check it out at http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=336672, if you somehow missed it until now (although mind the spoilers).

Spring Arena 1 was a great event, and Spring Arena 2 should be even better - the player pool has grown from 8 to 32 participants, although only five are known at this time. The casters have been announced, and the broadcast details & casters revealed, so check them out here! I guess TB did have a good excuse for not making it up here :D There'll also be eight POV streams, instead of the four from last arena, covering every single game being played (even if it isn't being casted). While this won't affect us on Sunday, it'll still make watching it the rest of the weekend a helluva thing.

It's been a few weeks to rest and recover and now it's time for the next Triangle Barcraft! Since this MLG is happening on the west coast, things are getting started a bit later than we're used to on a Sunday, so make sure you note the later time - of course, if you want to come in at 2PM like normal and start the party early, I doubt Blinco's would mind Our last few Barcrafted events have been the MLG Spring Arenas, so there'll be some familiar faces in the competition, but as this is one of the MLG Championship events there's always that element of the unknown thanks to the Open Bracket, allowing anyone to compete. While historically speaking it's rare for a challenger to actually make their way through the open bracket up into the finals... it has happened before! Not only will we have the MLG Spring Championship to watch, but we'll also have the Blizzard US Nationals going on at the same venue as well. They've split up their broadcasting so as not to overlap each other, and the schedule of Barcraftin' will be as follows:

6PM EDT - MLG Championship Loser's Finals (If you want to get started a little early, we'll be set up by 6 :D )
7PM EDT - Blizzard US National Finals
8-9PM EDT Start - MLG Championship Grand Finals

Blizzard WCS Canadian Nationals - The Top 32 Canadian players compete for a modest prize pool and more importantly, a spot in the Blizzard WCS North American Continental tournament, given to the Top 10 players of the Nationals.
CSL Canadian Championships - The Top 4 Canadian collegiate teams compete for the title of CSL Canadian Champion! Unfortunately they'll be finishing up around 1PM Sunday, so we won't be able to catch the CSL action.

I'll be showing up an hour early at 5PM, to start setting up the hardware, so feel free to come out a little early and watch some SCII action!

We're all looking forward to MLG Raleigh this weekend and we've got a pretty sizable group attending! We'll be using the Triangle Barcraft and SCTuesdays Facebook pages as well as the SCTuesdays Twitter account (@SCTuesdays) for updates, alerts and announcements and to post pictures and polls. Make sure you 'Like' and Follow them all so you don't miss anything. On Twitter, we'll be using the hashtag #TriangleSC to help categorize our tweets, so if you have a question or need to know where people are or what's going on, send your tweet with the hashtag #TriangleSC so we can easily find it and reply back to you quickly

We'll be tweeting about things you'll want to know like what's happening at the venue, who's going where and when to get food, and where to meet for group photos each day, (we plan to only take 1 big group photo per day so please come out for those). We'll even tweet if there are seats available in the crowd so you can snag one if you want it. These are all things you can do as well, just be sure to use the hashtag #TriangleSC. All that having been said, make sure you check your smartphone Often or stick with someone who has one so you'll be in the know about what's going on when and where.

We know that people may go off to eat in small groups and at different times throughout the day but you never know who may want to tag along so please Tweet when you Eat! Use the #TriangleSC hashtag and just let everyone know where you're headed and when you're leaving. The Dr. Pepper booth and the open areas in the lobby of the Convention Center (CC) are great places to meet up before heading out.

We're organizing 1 group dinner this Saturday and 1 group brunch this Sunday. Saturday's dinner is tentatively set for 6pm at The Oxford, which is a very short walk from the CC. We're making a reservation for that so let us know if you'd like to join us. We'll have plenty of time to get back for the WCS Finals at 8pm that day so no worries. The time for Sunday's brunch is TBA for now but it will either be at Tir Na Nog downtown or at IHOP. We'll let you know when we settle on a time so be sure to let us know if you'd like to join us for that as well.

Our next Barcraft will be for the DreamHackEizoOpen Valencia, one of Europe's most prestigious tournaments starring 64 TBA players from all around the world. More than just a tournament however, DreamHack is the biggest LAN party in the world, where thousands of gamers bring their rigs out to game all weekend long.

Dreamhack is shaping up to be a solid European event, and it comes just in time to tide us over the holidays. Sorry for the last minute notice, we just found out about this event last week, and it took some time to confirm we'd have space at Blinco's and folks interested in coming to the Barcraft :D

Dreamhack is the world's biggest LAN, where thousands upon thousands of nerds crowd into Jonkoping, Sweden for a huge digital festival encompassing almost all things computer-related. While there's a huge amount of community tournaments going on as well at the festival, one of the big features is the e-sports competitions where the premiere gaming pros battle it out! The matches will actually begun on Thursday, something to keep in mind if you need something a little more exciting than Football for the family entertainment

On Saturday, the Grand Finals begin at 6PM EDT, with a ceremony beginning around 5:30PM, so we'll be there from 5PM until the Finals are over with. We're expecting this to be a smaller Barcraft, given the holidays and that quite a few folks are out of town, tied into family plans, etc, but it's still certain to be a good time - c'mon out, have a few beers with your fellow e-sports nerds, and join us in being thankful that this crazy, crazy idea of e-sports is as big as it is :D

Really great to see that most of you are planning on coming to the GSTL/IPL4 Barcrafts this weekend. Like Gamgee said, be sure to RSVP on the Facebook event pages. Not a huge deal but it does help with the head count.

I'm working on updating that web flyer but for those of you who don't know already, SCTuesdays is now a weekly event at Blincos Sports Bar so you can come and hang with other players in the community each week. As far as I'm aware, nothing like this exists anywhere else in the Triangle so definitely come out and be a part of it. We've had solid back-to-back turnouts these past two events, the latter of which we had 6 laptops, 5 desktops, (yes, people actually bring their rigs), and 20+ people. The atmosphere is absolutely phenomenal, well suited for SC2. If you can't make it then just hop online at home and join us in the "SCTuesdays" in-game chat channel. We run everything from 1v1s to 4v4 monobattles with all league levels, (currently Bronze to Diamond I believe).

Really appreciate all the positive feedback guys and even happier you all are having a good time at these events! This weekend was absolutely spectacular so thanks for coming out. Don't forget we've got SCTuesdays tomorrow night from 7:30-11PM so come eat, drink, play pool/darts/shuffleboard, and practice those builds with other members of the local SC community. For SCTuesdays our attendance has been hovering around 20-25 ppl. If you can't make it out though you can always join us from home in the in-game chat channel "SCTuesdays"

SCTuesdays is really picking up! We had 25~ ppl and were able to fit 6 desktops and 8 laptops with some adjustments to the layout. Thanks to everyone who came out last night! I hope all of your ladder dreams come true this season 8)

Right now we're working on organizing a Barcraft for the MLG Spring Arena 1 on Sunday April 22nd from 2-6pm. More details when we hash it out but mark your calendar!

Barcrafts and iBarCraft are two new BarCraft sites, not sure yet on the popularity levels. They've both got some cool stuffs, be interesting to see how they evolve

Had an absolute blast today, brought a couple friends and we all agreed that this is a badass event and will definitely be returning! Unfortunately I had my work schedule mixed up and can't make it out this Tuesday to play, but we'll be back next Tuesday to run some games with everyone. Has anyone tried the SC2 themed drinks besides the creep? We're assuming that the stim pack is something Midori/apple pucker based and/or a redbull bomb shot, but I didn't see what else they had.

Right now the drinks we have, Mothership, Vespene Gas, Stim Pack, and Creep, are derived from the recipes we found on http://www.thedrunkenmoogle.com/tagged/starcraft drink. They aren't the exact recipes, because those call for some fairly exotic liqueurs, but they should be pretty close to what we're using.

Note that the Stim pack may end up changing... just because, imo, it doesn't really have anywhere near the kick you'd expect from a drink called the stim pack :D

Not sure If any of ya'll have heard but, Totalbiscuit just recently moved to Concord NC. We should try and get him to come down for a weekend tournament or regular tuesday night. I already tweeted at him about this thread, not sure if he'll see it though.

Ah! Sorry if we ended up pestering you, it was more trying to break through the racket of 83,000 followers - something I still have no idea how 'public figures' handle. Glad that you are aware of our existence though, and hope to see you at one of our
Barcrafting events in the Triangle area soon :D The SCTuesdays thing also happens every Tuesday, so should you find yourself in Raleigh one Tuesday evening you know where to find the SCII gamers!

So, it just dawned on me last night - holy crap, BarCraft is next weekend! Updating the main post and spreading the word now. Biggest news is that next weekend, we're going to BarCraft the GSL Finals vods right after the SCTuesdays tournament on Saturday... given how much I love the GSL, I'm really looking forward to this. Also, I've updated the tournament times, as we'll be starting at 7PM Tuesday, and 6PM Saturday - that way we'll have a little more time to get all the games played. Be sure to sign up if you haven't already done so!

Turnout was pretty damned good for the tournament - while not quite our goal of 24, we did have 13 competitors enter, and enough people and PCs to force using both rooms that Blinco's has. Also, thanks to the internet upgrade that Blinco's did for us, we had only a few lag issues that cropped up, and future tournaments we should be able to eliminate those from affecting the results. I'll be integrating our current brackets into the OP shortly, but some interesting stats...

Starting League Breakdown:

Masters (2) - 16.6%
Diamond (2) - 16.6%
Platinum (3) - 25%
Gold (2) - 16.6%
Silver (3) - 25%
Bronze - 0%

Starting Race Breakdown:

Terran/Protoss (3) - 23.1%
Zerg (5) - 53.8%

Top 8 League Breakdown

Masters (2) - 25%
Diamond (2) - 25%
Platinum (2) - 25%
Gold  - 0%
Silver (2) - 25%

We started with a real even league distribution (except we had no bronzies

), and a very Zerg heavy tournament - apparently, to bring out the Swarm, you have to promise some $ :D

I think for our first one, the turnout was perfect. Especially with the late start we had, if 24 people actually signed up and came we wouldn't have had enough time to finish all the matches. Something to consider for next time for sure but right now we can definitely handle a 16-man(woman) tourney no problem.

Those are some pretty interesting statistics! Did you use some kind of program or just look at the bracket and figure all that out? Very interesting that the Silvers made Top 8 over the Golds. Somehow I figured we'd have no bronzies but I was Very surprised that we had not one but TWO masters at our tourney O_O Looking forward to how things will turn out on Saturday during the final matches 8)
