Barcraft Victoria - SC2 Winter Arena @ Hecklers Bar & Grill!
Come see the finals of Major League Gaming's (MLG's) StarCraft 2 Winter Arena being held in New York City. This is the first event of its kind on Vancouver Island! Be a part of this historic opportunity to advance the eSports community in Victoria while cheering on your favourites: you can expect to see in this tournament fan favourites such as Huk, Idra, Leenok, MC and others.
If you're coming, spread the word! If you are a fan of StarCraft but cannot make this event, please spread the word! The more people who know about it, the more successful we can make this inaugural Victoria BarCraft.
eSports Canada is a fledgling organization dedicated to the advancement of eSports in Canada and was founded in 2011. For more information about eSports Canada, please see http://www.esportscanada.com/ (this website is still new and under construction). You can also head over to their Facebook page and hit the Like button: https://www.facebook.com/EsportsCanada
Hecklers Bar and Grill is a local bar that mixes its events between sporting event viewing and live comedy shows. If you're coming, please support their business--have dinner, or a few drinks, or both! This will help convince local businesses that hosting BarCraft events is profitable and desirable and should help open doors for future events!

Notes:
1. Start and end times are approximate as MLG has not yet released the streaming schedule.
2. If you are willing to help with this event, please mention in the News Feed of this event. In particular, we are looking for people willing to loan equipment to run this event (laptops, HDMI cables, audio cables, etc.)
3. Please note that as Hecklers is a licensed establishment, this is a 19+ event only.

Looking forward to it. I was hoping to gather some people together to organize a BarCraft in Victoria, but it seems you have done all the leg work already! If you need any help let me know.

Thanks NPGZ. Be sure to share this with your friends! Joining the Facebook group and event is the best way to help me plan for numbers.
At this point where I really need the help is people who have laptops with HDMI we can use. My buddy can bring his tower down if we need to but it would be nice to have options. I will be visiting Hecklers on Saturday to find out exactly what will be required by us to make this work with regard to computers and cables. If you or anyone you know can help with equipment, please let me know.

We're sorry to hear that. That's certainly your right. Some people feel $20 is too much and are voting with their wallets to make sure MLG knows.
At eSports Canada, we know that business costs money. It costs MLG $100, 000 to fly all the competitors in and put them up in hotels. Advertising alone just won't sustain those kind of costs, and PPV is a common profit model in the sports world. eSports isn't sports, but it is a close approximation. We know that eSports is too new to be able to know what the right price is and that MLG is experimenting to find out. So this is why we hold BarCraft events--it allows us to be able to watch the match and have a lot of fun growing a local community around eSports while pooling our resources to make the match more affordable.
While we understand your feelings on the matter, we hope you will think of attending Victoria's first BarCraft not as supporting MLG but as supporting your local community. After all, MLG certainly won't notice whether you're there or not--and we will!

Hey, in a way I understand what you are saying.... You're passionate about esports... But honestly... I think you're going about the wrong way... If you think that MLG messed up big time with the arena ppv what you do.... IS GO TO A BARCRAFT! That is where you can focus your passion!
MLG gains nothing financially from the event, you get to meet up with a LOT of like minded sc2 fans and frankly just have a great time. Even if you don't go for the finals themselves, it's 110% worth it to meet new people in the local sc2 community, find practice partners, and just really really cool guys to chill with. Plus just by showing up you really help support the local esports scene. The more people at these events, the more likely people are the hold lans, special events and all the like....
And just because I can't help myself I can understand not buying a pass you feel is overpriced.... but to completely give up on mlg?
Personally, MLG has been fighting the good fight for esports (even thought they make mistakes along the way) for over 10 years... There is so much they have done that I'm not going to give up on them because of 1 event... I mean we all remember MLG Dallas being a complete flop with streams down and, really just so much going wrong... any yet the next event MLG rents out 2 satellite trunks (for some serious coin) and does everything they can to make sure things work. I think if ANYTHING, MLG has earned the time to get things right.
edit for typos

You guys let me know how it goes.

I'm intending to be there and trying to rope in friends as well. Beer and Starcraft! Sounds good to me.

Since the whole thing is starting at 10:30 a.m. PST and Hecklers doesn't even open till 12:00, we've decided to watch the tournament as VODs starting at 4:00 p.m. It will probably go longer than 9:00, though.
|
Sounds good! Looking forward to this!
|
Coming for sure. Gonna be great.

Really hyped about today!!!!!

Good, would've preferred watching live over VODs though. Also, too many pitchers of water going around; I kinda felt like an alcoholic in a pub...
