We're happy to announce that Favorite Streams is now available. This feature lets you create your own list of favorite streamers who will appear in the "Live Streams" section above the non-featured list under a "Favorites" sub-title. You can use this to add your favorite non-featured streams to the sidebar. Since your favorites are exempt from any sidebar filter settings, you can even add existing featured streams and they will always show whenever they are online, regardless of any game or race filters you may have set.
Unlike the sidebar customization features recently released, you must be registered and logged in to add favorites. You can add or remove a streamer from their TL stream page, or by accessing the favorite streamers page which is also available as a link in the Sidebar Settings pop-up.
We hope this will make it easier to keep track of your favorite streams. If you encounter any issues please let me know!
This is great! An awesome addition after the new regulations put in place. This allows for the unfeatured streamers more exposure and ease of access for their fans!
Hey, it works pretty well. I had a problem when i added Stephano's stream, my browser freezd for few minutes and i got a warning from Firefox, a part of the code seemed not to work correctly. I forgot to get a screenshot, i will if the problem appends again.
I dont see how it will bridge the gap between featured and non featured for the masses though? Could someone explain?
They will still be non-featured its just if you decide to go watch some non-featured streams you can put it in your personal favourites. no change to the system really.
Not only is this a great feature, but it's also such a quick response to some of the problems regarding the recent featured streamer changes, very much appreciated. If you were to break down some of the current issues with the previous stream listing it's that
A) It's very hard to determine who is worth watching in the non-featured section (Discovery) B) Even if you know you want to watch, without sidebar placement it was just more difficult to know if they were online. (Retention)
This definitely helps with B, hopefully there are some changes on the horizon to help with A on top of the editorial aspect of the featured streams, even if it's something as simple as a sort by battle.net league with sub-sorting by TLPD ELO it would give people who are new to the streams some way to find out who the more skilled streamers are instead of just a sort by current viewers.

Translation : A script on this page might be buzy or do not respond. You can stop the script now or wait to see if the script will end.
It's appends when i write few letters and erase it. Firefox freezes and 2 minutes later, the message appears. I guess the script gathers all streams registered, that's why it's a bit long :o)
These minor updates vastly improved my experience. I love the little Zerg, Protoss, and Terran icons next to the streams as well as the better organization.

There will be no official link between those numbers and being featured, because it is easily abused. It's not like we will be ignorant about it either, it will play a role on some level when we try to inform ourselves.

I limited the display to only streams that have been online in the past week, this should hopefully help.
Thanks R1ch, this is quite nice. I was just wondering though, why did you put the favourites under "player"? Would it not make more sense to put it above "player"+"other", since they are who you want to see first, or are you trying to promote the rest of the featured streams first?

The reason why we put it below is because a lot of peoples favorites will simply be under "Players". They could have their top 15 favorite streams already in featured and then add their 16th preference from non-featured to favorites. Putting this guy above the other 15 would not make sense. That's why we decided to put it below.
This is really awesome, it sucks when you find a random stream that you actually really like and then you forget the name of it and never see them again lol

Actually, it does make sense to have "favourites" above featured.
Nazgul seems to see the favourites simply as a method to bring non-featured streamers into visible space, alongside featured. Yet, I would like to just have my favourite streams visible, and I'd like to not look at the featured/non-featured list. This is roughly what I did with the TL streams app. As I thus look at the favourites list anyway, I shouldn't have to scroll down to see what I want to look at.

We feel that for the majority of the people they will have a most of their favorite streams in featured already (which they won't be adding as 'Favorites' as a result). If that is not the case for you then so be it, but it will be the case for most others. Usually adding a non-featured stream to favorites means they are the #15th preferred stream or something, not the #1 like it is for you.

A bit strange.
I think you misunderstand me, I also brought out some featured streamers into favourites. For example, Check is currently in favourites, so I would not have to look for the name among the list of featured ones. Sometimes there are just a great many featured streams (I guess it's the reason for unfeaturing some..) and it's better to have a filter on top of that. The problem with having favourites underneath is that at rush hour, the location of favourites shifts depending on the number of streamers, and it's not the first thing one sees, even if it would make sense as it's the first one a person with favourites would look.
Once again, favourites work to do more than bring out non-features streamers. It filters out all the featured streamers one is not interested in.
Right, but that doesn't go for everyone. A lot of people like to continue to use the featured section and just add 1-2 guys they couldn't see before. What you're arguing for is your own preference, what I'm saying is that we think your preference is a minority. We'll go over the numbers some weeks from now but it's not going to change right now.

I'm fine with that. It's still great that the function exists!

Is your claim that "a lot of people like to continue to use the featured section..." based on any actual data, or just wishful thinking? Like for the other poster, for me the Favorites actually replaces the other sections, I will add all the streams I watch regularly, even if they're already featured.
Ahh fantastic. I love the extra features and junk you've put in lately. Definitely makes the site a lot more convenient for my Tyler stalking i mean fanboyism.
I'm with some of the other guys, I'd like my features list to be a comprehensive list of the players I tend to watch stream with the option of having the featured list permanently minimized. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but at the moment the favourites list has no real function for me, I'm simply seeing my favourite stream twice on the sidebar instead of once.
Regardless, great job with the constant improvement of the site!
Very nice and fast solution for the defeature uproar. I wonder how a site where I don't pay anything to use it can please their visitors so fast while I sometimes wait ages for companies to fix something I pay for. for TL.

How is it wishful thinking? The streams are featured for a reason.

The fact that a stream has a lot of viewers says very little about how those visitors would like to move from TL to that stream.

So I'm guessing fixing Juan is going to be next to impossible since he's gonna break the list every three weeks? DAMNIT. Edit: Awesome feature. Happy wizarding it all out.
Just curious.. will you guys be tracking how many times a player that is non featured is added on everyones "favorite" list... This could be helpful when streamers start getting more popular and want to get featured on TL.
Thanks for the great new feature sir! However, I feel that the favourites should be on top of the Live Stream section. Or is there a way to rearrange that?
Just read through the previous posts. Hopefully, there could be a way in the future to rearrange the order of categories in the Live Streams column. Great job TL!
This is so awesome! Thank you so much for adding this in i'm so glad to see that we are going to have changes made to help bridge the gap between non-featured and featured streams!
I'm not a web designer and i am a total internet chobo but I feel the add players page needs a button (save, back or both). I just felt stranded on the page after picked my streamers lol
edit: So when you try to turn off players and others featured streams it just turns them back on. What if we just want the favorites section to just show and not the featured?
This is just some things I was wondering... TL <3 you guys (r1ch especially) fucking rule
Im honestly beginning to believe that TL has a huge number of people who would claim their right foot was their left for the sole reason of disagreeing with something.
I am seeing people in this thread whining about the fact favourites is not on top of the featured list. What does this mean?
..You MIGHT have to scroll down a little. THE HORROR!!
I guess you know that way which streamers get in the favorite section the more often so you can re-feature them based on that. Anyway, really happy to see that there is now a way to separate pros that aren't featured from other streams!
Have you considered adding a "hide stream" option? There's a lot of featured streamers that I never ever open, so it would be nice to be able to remove them from the sidebar.
I already have the google chrome addon for this, but its great for everyone else! With chrome i dont even need to be in tl.net to see my favorite streams.
With this feature added, I see no point in a forced Featured stream list. I can remove Players, and I can remove Others, but I can't remove both, and only rely on my favorites. Please find it in your hearts to add this option Either way, great add!

That's because his TL ID is HasHe201, his stream was just renamed to HasHe on the sidebar. HasHe201 will work.
The people asked and R1CH made it so! Truly a great wizard!
It doesn't seem like it's very useful to me based on Nazgul's logic. All my favorites are featured streamers already, so adding them would probably just be redundant.

What does this mean? That we're trying to make an awesome feature even better. As a software developer myself I know that sometimes users don't behave as expected, and that it's better to adapt the software to the users than to try the opposite.
soooooo good! Now people can stop crying about why they got unfeatured and focus more on providing an awesome stream that every user on TL can favorite!
This is infinicool. I was looking for a feature request thread to post something suggesting this only to find a thread saying it has just been implemented. That's what I call a fast turnaround!
Am logged in, PM me if you have/solved troubles of the Add to Favorites button not being clickable, just an empty useless button, and no Favorites popping up !
Nice addition :D - Hopefully i get a stream favourite :D - Would be a good idea to add a part too your streams "Favourites" - So people can see how many people have favourited their stream.
OMG this is the best feature ever! So happy they finally implemented this!! Goes to add megumixbear.
I understand why they don't want to put favourites at the top of the list. They don't want anything overriding the featured list and that's understandable. I'm just happy they added the favourites list, since previously they said it would take a while to implement. R1CH must follow the scotty of star trek philosophy of under promise and over deliver to look like a miracle worker.
Very very nice. But i have a request. At least for me it would be cool if my favorite Streams at at the top. So maybe you can rearange it or maybe add another option for this.
Like the feature a lot, but would be nice if you could move it like others have said. Seems somewhat redundant with the main lists, would be nice to have a WHERE player NOT IN (favorites) filter applied to the rest of the stream sections. I'd also like the option for it to show up as <none> when all of my favorites are offline, just for visual consistency.
Would it be possible to show in the favorites a stream associated to a running calendar event? When a streamer playing in a tournament associate his stream to the event they do not appear anymore in the Favorites list.

You can just remove "Players" completely if that's what you want that?
I just thought of another idea is to pick a couple of ___ (for example, 10, although that might be too low, I'd leave it to you guys to decide if you want to implement this) viewer (active + semi popular, but not featured) streams randomly per week (automated?) and have it in another section or so under those sections (like after "Other"?) to give a bit more exposure to those other streams to bridge the gap between the featured and non-featured?
idk o.o
edit: (I guess I'll post this into teh feedback section later = =)
We should have a feature where you can rate the quality of streams, then people will watch even non featured streams if they have good ratings. This is great though, already added all the liquid players and a few other people! How can I browse through offline streams to add people? I can't find dimaga :/

Actually you can't as I said a couple of pages ago... Removing players and companies returns to all settings set fully
Even when I don't personally need the feature (all my favourite streamers are already featured ^_^) - I can see that this is a great addition to the site's functionality. Good stuff.
I don't know if I was the first to suggest this feature but I did suggest it. WOOT! Thank you TL! Now bring back Attero so he's featured for everyone so he doesn't quite SC2!!!! And because he's freaking awesome!
Hey R1CH, This is an awesome feature!. The only downside is that there is currently a limit on the number of streams you can favorite I'd like to just favorite every stream I like and then never have to worry about anything but my favorite streams ever again but right now, I can't because of the limit. It seems like a pretty easy fix.
Is it possible to make the Favorites section show up on top of the Stream list - above Players and Others - because that would make it even more awesome.

Great job, R1CH. TL is definitely changing for the better. We all appreciate the hard work you're putting in. This is great for me personally since one of my favorite streamers got defeatured(goatrope).
Honestly with the changes to the sidebar TL is pretty perfect for my purposes now. I'd love it, though, if the old "favorite team" option in the profile was updated to include SC2 teams.
R1CH, As a streamer I was wondering if you can design a feature that allows the streamer to know how many players have added their streams to their "favorites". This would be a very cool feature that perhaps can also be factored into requirements for a featured stream/popularity. Please consider, thanks.

yeah, i agree, would be very helpful. anyhow, thank you R1CH, nice addition to the site!!
Is there anyway to remove the [show unfeatured streams] spoiler? Most of the BW streams are unfeatured so it's easier for me if I don't have to continually click the spoiler to look at a list of maybe 4 streams. Everything else is great though.
Hey guys... just wondering: Is there any chance in future to label streams that are show as "event titles" with the game being played? Similar to the way the "Live Streams" shows [BW] [SC2], etc.
There's just something frustrating about tuning into:
"[NASL] S2 W7D5 Stream: NASL.tv" and having it be HoN instead of our beloved starcraft for the 3rd time in a row. No offence to HoN, I'm sure it's a great game. It's also literally the only non-starcraft game that's shown under the major even streams.
this is such an awesome feature. I did notice one thing, when I favorite a streamer they still show up on the normal list as well. not sure how difficult it would be but it'd be cool if they just move into the favorites slot and stop showing up duplicate in the normal list as well.
Loving this feature so far, however if I could complain about one thing, it would be that when a user is streaming that is on my favorites is listed under an event, that user's stream does not show up under my favorites tab. I don't know if anybody else noticed this or not.
Anyways, I could stop being lazy and look through the list of events but just putting that out there!
I think there's still a problem with HasHe's stream. I managed to add it to my favorites (as hashe201), but it doesn't show me that the stream is online (which it is, currently).

I think it could be better that if a stream is both in my favorites and in the regular listing, the regular gets cut off, because if I have the stream in my favorites I'd rather see it there.

I've also experimented with turning off "players" entirely and that's not the worst solution for me.
