Please, if you are not staff, don't answer questions in this thread, even if you think you know the answer. Also, please take complains about bans, question about TL as a site, etc to the Website Feedback Forum. |

Plexa, do you attend events with the team? What do you "do" on the forums specifically? (E.G RICH does alot of programming work and stuffs) Erm. What do I do... Not much =/? I try to maintain an 'admin presence' on the forum, if for no reason other than I think it is important for admins to be able to relate to the community and/or be approachable as a member of the community. Things like keeping an eye on website feedback for when admins are needed (and relaying that on to people) and trying to make sure there is someone from TL to talk to them - it's a bit annoying when no one is there to respond to you and you feel like your yelling at a wall being ignored. I also work on PT actively at the moment, hoping that we can get another issue out at the end of the month/early september. We'll see how successful that is. I also took TLpro rep duties over from ares (who took over from me originally) which basically involves finding reps to release the next week. Can be a bit tricky when we have tournament commitments though I also am the 'mastermind' behind the Liquid Advantage series, which I think is a super cool feature that is unique to tlpro and really gets you inside the heads of our players. Other than that its just the general provide feedback on ideas and whatnot in the staff forums. I try to give my own ideas as well and one day I'll stop being lazy and bring some of those to reality oh and some spot moderating here and there, but no where near the level of heyoka/gmarshal/nyovne. Oh, and I recently helped out with last months map of the month - I'm a firm believer in having a quality map pool and part of my commitment to that idea is helping out the guys in the mapping forum however I can. You forgot helping out in writers, and being awesome.
Awesome, thanks for the detailed answer :-D I should check out the tlpro site more often, ive been there maybe twice in a year O.O
And marshal, its stating the obvious that he's awesome, isnt it? :D

What is the system for deciding who gets what roles within TL?

well I don't have MiR access so I'm going to base the following off of Liquipedia and MiB forums:
SUGGESTION months pass SEEMS LEGIT months pass *someone bumps the thread* bunch of replies by everyone if there is something more important to be done, thread goes inactive again eventually someone says ok or no

How'd you guys pick your usernames?

Most of the "stories" behind most usernames are very boring and unimaginative; mine included: it was I guess about seventeen years ago I suppose and I was trying to choose a username that wasn't taken already and therefore did not require adding numbers to the end of it or anything like that. After a few tries I just started trying random things and this is what I ended up with and have kept it ever since.

Depends on mood I suppose as there are a lot of old entertaining ones of which I know I couldn't recall all of them. as for the worst open [public] thread... my vote goes to the Korean Music Discussion Thread as whenever I see a Mod Report for that I dread opening it as I know it's going to be utterly terrible and having to read through a pile of crap on top of it in context of that post is miserable.

I had a boss ask me to write an article when I was first doing tech news. He wanted a piece on the "big trend" toward browser-based (MMO)RPGs and figured since I was new I probably wouldn't mind spending ages playing a bunch of half-finished and unmarketable games for an hour or so a day to gather material.
One of the games said I'd be banned if I didn't choose a "mediaval appropriate" username. So I thought, "Well, if I'm going to be medieval, I want to be a somebody, so I'll just make my dude a knight." There was a stack of batteries beside my mousemat, left over from some testing, and after considering a couple of words, I chose this name.
In the end, joining the game made me choose a profession. Naturally, I chose Knight and was dubbed "SirSirJolt."

~10 years ago I met some asians in my English class who played starcraft. We chatted a bit, and got on that night to play a few 1v1's. After I beat them (I was probably borderline D/D- rank on PGT) they were like 'wow wtf a white man beat us.'
During gym class, we were playing baseball, and i got in a pickle (stuck between 2nd and 3rd base) and got out and scored a run, they were like "OMG AMAZING MICRO" and hense, I decided I was more asian than them if I could beat them in starcraft, and show some baseball micro. So my name was then created, CaucasianAsian.

(Karl -> Kalle) So when I first got online and started chatting it was natural to use that nickname as it had stuck for 6-7 year at that point, and was fairly uncommon.
PS. Apparently it means "a big room" in French.

I live in Dublin Its what I expected. But I'd hoped you in fact lived in a quaint little cottage in some rural (by Irish standards) part of Ireland, maybe on the top of a hill, or overlooking the sea. Think Bilbo Baggins between the Hobbit and LoTR.
Then you'd write your article and blog drafts on a typewriter, before eventually copying out the final piece to TL. I guess Dublin is nice too though.
I should probably spend less time on TL and more time laddering.

I might have made reference somewhere else on TL to Falling Up the band or else the Shel Silverstein book of poetry, but it's actually a little more straight-forward (and perhaps boring) than that.
I think the first forum I ever joined was in 2006 Dog-Eared that was connected to Anti-Shurtugal an anti-fandom site devoted to critiquing the Eragon series. I wanted a nice, simple username that I nonetheless didn't need to find a variation to everytime I went to a new forum because it was too common. Especially because I didn't (and don't) like usernames with a ton of numbers, symbols or 1337 spelling or whatever. I was super paranoid about giving out real information so of course I had a throw away email with a fake name. The fake last name being Falhaus. So from Falhaus... Falling.
My profile pic of P.O.D.'s Sonny and Wuv and my Jack Handey quote also made the transition over. (TL profile pics aren't quite as prominent as other forums.) So if you ever find the Falling, P.O.D. pic and Jack Handey combo on some obscure forum, you've probably found me.
