(Karl -> Kalle) So when I first got online and started chatting it was natural to use that nickname as it had stuck for 6-7 year at that point, and was fairly uncommon. PS. Apparently it means "a big room" in French. But why salle? Why not Salle? I thought it looked better, (still do).

Then you should try it when you get the chance. It a good game when you understand the rules, which can seem a bit complex at first sight.

If you like turn-based strategy are you a fan of homm iii? (Heroes of Might and Magic III) Also, which other ones do you recommend? I've never really played any other turn-based strategy. Just rediscovered it recently and have been playing it a decent amount.

(Heroes of Might and Magic III) Also, which other ones do you recommend? I've never really played any other turn-based strategy. Just rediscovered it recently and have been playing it a decent amount. There is a HoMM game that I played at a friend's house when I was in school that I'd like to find again, but I never really played the game at much length. I played a lot of Civ 2, 3, and to some extent 4. 4 is actually quite good but I rarely have time for such long games. But 2 I played a lot were Space Empires II and Imperial Conquest. They are quite complex, but not as complex as say Space Empires IV. And this is important because we used to play hot seat and if turns take too long the pace of game really bogs down. Also both of these games had the distinction of being able to start your empire and get fleets/ armies on the map pretty quickly. Space Empires 4 and indeed all the Civilizations games this takes a very long time. Civ 4 did have a quick set-up option where you could start in process with multiple cities and that was very nice. Space Empires you actually designed the ships you fought (The design process got ridicuosuly complex in 4.) But because we only had the demo, the biggest ships you could make were cruisers. I imagine the full game would be fun (not sure if you can buy it), but even playing with half the ships was awesome. Imperial Conquest II has lot of interesting things including seasons where supplies vary in availability so it actually forces you to campaign in summer and fall and break up your army and spread it out during the winter. Your situated around the Mediterranean Sea and command anything from the powerful Rome, Selucid, Ptolemy, or Carthage down to the tiny bit players like Dacia and Illyria. Not sure how you can win with those, but we made a go with some of the medium powers (Macedonia, Greece, etc.) Abandonware has IC available. Probably need Dosbox to make it work though. Slay was a cute little turn-based strategy game. Not super complex and it didn't take very long. But very easy to hot seat +2 people. (We didn't get internet till very late, so a lot of my multi-player games involved hot seating.) Actually, apparently it's now an app for $4. Cosmetic nitpick, but I'm glad they added the Classic graphic design. There might be more, but Civ, Space Empires, Imperial Conquest, and Slay are what I played the most. Especially Space Empires and Conquest.

EDIT: Turn-based: I really liked Civ 3 / HOMM 3 but didn't play very much of them :/. I played a fair amount of FreeCiv (free Civ 2 clone) though. I also like/liked tactics games (they fall under "turn-based strategy," right??) like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem and Battle for Wesnoth. (Speaking of which, I should play FF Tactics...)
