If Liquipedia 2 has taught us anything, it's that tournament coverage is one of the strongest points of the Wikipedia. Unlike an R&S kept by one person, anyone can keep a wiki up-to-date. Unlike TLPD, wiki has visuals to explain the format and matches and their VODs can be orchestrated around that. Unlike having to search for TL's newsposts on the league, the wiki can link them all centrally. And on top of that, the wiki always has room for improvement - be it adding in the Music Scores used for the MBC Starleagues, documenting all the team line-ups through a seaon of Proleague, or recommending excellent games that wrote history - the wiki has a place for it.
Taking this into consideration, Liquipedia:BW needs a lot of work as many leagues are incomplete or unrecorded entirely. Recently we've started to right this wrong, but, with such a vast history and a ton of tournaments and games ahead of us, we need help. Liquipedia is therefore looking for a:
BroodWar Historian
Together with several other editors you will be working towards making Liquipedia:BW the ultimate resource for BroodWar tournament history. You'll be working towards creating pages for every OSL, MSL, Proleague, WCG, STX Cup and more.
You:
- Love BroodWar
- Have knowledge of BroodWar's history OR are eager to find out about it
- Don't mind spending some time crunching through a list of copy/pastes
- Are not afraid of editing Liquipedia.
- Are independent and (a bit) creative.
In your job, you will:
- Use TLPD in combination with TeamLiquid's R&S topics, LR topics and Small VOD thread to explore leagues of the past.
- Learn (step by step) how to work with Liquipedia.
- Compile your data into the relevant Liquipedia articles.
- Go out of your way to add that extra bit of content that makes a good article an excellent article.
In return, you will:
- EARN COINS!
- That's actually all we can offer: imaginary shinies. You're doing this because you love this game and want to contribute to enabling future generations to find out about its legendary history. It is a huge project and I don't know how far we can go, but if nothing else, I promise you the end result will be something to be proud of.
To apply for this please contact Pholon through PM or Quakenet IRC #Liquipedia. Please include:
- Broodwar history - How long have you been following the scene, how long have you been on TL.
- Area of interest. Would you rather work on MSL, WCG or PL articles. Do you have a favourite tournament of all time.
- Experience with wikicoding and/or any coding in general.
- Contact info, preferably IRC
Together we will work out your interests and skills and find you a place to start. Since many hands make light work we'll be accepting multiple applications.
Personally, I believe that with a bit of effort we can truly make this project worth its while and flabbergast every one in a month of two with a monumental record of Starcraft:Broodwar history. I look foward to working with you all
- Pholon

I love Pholon ): <3
Unfortunately, my understanding of BW is very low. Is there a way to contribute without applying?
|
wow from more noobish point of view its very hard to go into old LR threads(like >2006) they are kinda empty -_- compared to nowadays coverage. If im understanding right there would be pages on wiki for old tournaments so you can relive it again? awesome idea
I cannot emphasize enough how good project idea it is, sometimes i feel like checking more old-ish stuff but i find that sometimes "vods only" are kinda void, that would completely remedy this problem with getting all the backround information back @ the time it was happening.
GOOD LUCK!
|
Wow I'll definitely apply
|
In return, you will gain my respect, and i'm sure i'm not alone!
Thank you whoever will be doing this and thanks to Pholon & Liquipedia crew.

Brood War Historian sounds depressing for some reason...
Would prefer it called 'archivist' or something less past tense.
|
Is there any way to help with Liquipedia without extensive knowledge of coding or something involving Starcraft 2?
|
Isn't Harem all you need?

Curator?

TL coins are actually worth more than KeSPA ranking points, so getting this job will automatically qualify you for the next OSL
|
Sorry Pholon I have failed you. + Show Spoiler +Did not think I'd have so much work this year, plus internet problems. I'll let you kow if I get more time on my hands. Much love to you =)

Played BW for 12 years. Cant wait for all the incoming content.
|
sounds awesome, pretty cool to help keep BW history alive
|
I would love to do this myself, but I don't see myself dedicating a ton of hours on this, so I'll refrain D=
Best of luck and thanks in advance to whoever decides to take up this monumental and meaningful task!
|
Can it be money instead of "COINS"
|
Support this 100%, everyone who contributes should be publicly commended.
|
Good luck to whoever decides to take up this task, it's quite the daunting prospect.
|
Pholon. What are the time commitments like. like how many hours worth of work can be generally expected per week.
Cause it sounds like a lot of fun. But I'm not sure if I have the time or not.

I's say Preserver, because if you've read any of the Dark Templar Saga books, you'll meet some Protoss who keep the Protoss history in their heads, sort of, and they are called Preservers.

Day9, 'nuff said.
I feel he'd be a strong asset in this regard, he seemingly remembers every era of brood war history.

Just hire GTR. The kid has his history down from back when he was 10.

This is a great thing for TL to add. It would be a shame if we lost any information simply because we failed to properly record it. I want to come back here 30+ years later and show people where it all began.
|
I don't think I have the time to really apply but if you need somebody to do the menial work and dig through dozens / hundreds of LR pages or something like that to piece together the results of tournaments just sent me a PM.
|
I'm not sure where you would like to go with this, but I'm a post-grad in US history and am currently working on a Master's Thesis. If there is actual pay, I would be very interested, as I need the money. I can provide sample papers and references if you'd like.
My knowledge of BW is fairly limited but It's such an interesting topic. I would love to delve deep into the culture and uncover interesting contexts. Besides graduate work I also have about a year of archival experience under my belt.
If interested, contact me at slytown21@yahoo.com and I'll send you my relevent info.

I don't think people actually get paid for editing the wikipedia, and the fact that OP specifically state that this will strictly be voluntary work makes me skeptical whether someone will actually take you up on your offer =/

+ Show Spoiler +They most likely won't, because there is "better" persons to do the work. Especially when we are talking about getting paid here.

Why are we talking about getting paid? Of the 200 or so TL staff, afaik only 4 get pay.
Man up and edit.

I want this on the reccord, I would have loved to do just this. Had this been asked for about half a year ago or so, I'd sign up as soon as humanly possible.
... But right now I'm deeply busy with studies and barely have time to even WATCH Brood War games. So, I'm sorry and I shalt flagellate myself in complete and utter shame.

+ Show Spoiler +Torte de LiniUnfortunately, my understanding of BW is very low. Is there a way to contribute without applying? Not sure I understand the connection between the two sentences. You can help without applying officially. Look at the work others have done and fix typos or add stuff they missed. If you'd like some specific task talk to me on IRC and I'll hook you up. DrollaIs there any way to help with Liquipedia without extensive knowledge of coding or something involving Starcraft 2? Trust me when I say coding is a non issue. You know how you can bold something on TL by clicking the B on top of the textbox? Same applies to LP. Cause it sounds like a lot of fun. But I'm not sure if I have the time or not. That's really up to you. I already received 10 (! <3) PMs and since it's a very clear-cut project (there are only an x amount of MSLs, STX cups etc) with many people working on it I have good hopes we might accomplish a lot of it in very little time. I'll try to assign people to certain projects, but if you'd prefer doing, say, half an hour of work at a time of your convenience (rather than working on a bigger task throughout a couple of days) just drop me a PM and I'll find you something. I get your point. I don't think of history as depressing. Perhaps you see it as implying the death of something? Considering my dissertation is focused on the past, I've come to consider myself a historian of the present. History is worth looking at to the extent that it helps us understand where we are now.
One day, someone will ask, how did we get here (SC X)? And there will be the archive of material on Broodwar, still alive and actively informing the present.
Great project.

Thanks in advance to whoever will end up doing this. I started following BW on TL in just the last couple of years. The LR threads have been more informative when TL switched to a more informative format in the last few years. It would be nice to get a better view of the brackets on liquipedia.

I mean, its more of the issue that the scene is slowly dying/contracting but its still around. :p
Also Maester of Starcraft.

Pholon <3 And I think I might join it. I played Starcraft in 1998!

I wont promise to write big, good but I'll probally browse over some starleague threads to help out..

What does TLPD stand for?
I've dug deep into Starcraft: Brood War history before. I remember finding the Liquipedia wanting so I had to dig into quite a few threads. I even once had a bunch of bookmarks to threads chronicling some obscure Brood War facts. Sadly, those bookmarks are now long gone.
I've edited a sort of pedia thing before. Updated a bunch of outdated information and redid some old ugly looking formats into the newer cleaner version. I /can/ do it again. But, I'll need to think on if I have the time or energy to commit to that sort of thing again.

really bad timing for me unfortunately, if this still needs work in a year (as it probably will), id love to help out then.

I was actually the Drama club historian once... Good times lol
lol @roffles , good point.

Yea, that's what I figured. I thought I'd try anyway. Hard time finding work now for historians (well, everyone I guess is having a hard time finding work.)
Hope the additions go well and we get a good Starcraft timeline set-up.

For those afraid of the wiki coding and all that stuff, I wouldn't worry too much about it. After a few edits, you'll be used to it in no time. You don't have to commit much time to put in your share of information.
As tofu said earlier: Man up and edit. You could be a nobody like me who just wants to contribute for the sake of esports! Who needs coins when you can be a part of this awesome history.

I'll apply, generally terrible at this sort of thing, but I'm willing to put in some time, even if I just end up copy-pasting stuff for people I don't mind ^_^

Dear all,
The response to this has been quite overwhelming and I've been so busy just replying to PMs and helping people start their work. If I haven't responded to your pm yet: don't worry, I will.
Thanks again
|
kinda signed up... contributing is fun!!! go try it out
|
Signed up and got started, the editing the page seemed overwhelming at first but after you get started you realize it is very simple to understand. Glad i took the dive otherwise idk if i ever would have learned how the pages work!
|
Yup, I've also joined in the effort. It's actually a great way to become familiar with tournaments and such which had remained sort of amorphous for me before.
Planning to do some great things with Liquipedia. Despite what some may say about wanting everyone to switch over to Starcraft 2, I really doubt those same people would want the memory and records of their past passion to fade away.

Bump. Should i still just PM Pholon for work to do? is there a list anywhere? Idk what to do
but I wrote a program that takes lists of games in this format:
April 29, 2006!1 PanTech 3 vs% 0 Soul Siva(Z)>Calm(Z)@Arcadia Nada(T)>HwaSin(T)@815 III Silver(Z)/Rock(P)>Vical(P)/TheWind(Z)@Iron Curtain
SamSung 3 vs% 2 SKT1 Zergman(Z)<Rainbow(P)@Rush Hour III CuteAngel[Name](T)>Oov(T)@The Eye Sigamari(Z)/Ever(P)>Midas(T)/Mumyung(Z)@Iron Curtain Jju(Z)<Rumble(Z)@New Cultivation Period Stork(P)>Boxer(T)@815 III t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t*t
and converts it to Liqui-ready code.
