and bringing in 50 odd people buying drink, should convince them, you would just have to find a pub that could setup their big screen with their internet stream. Places that come to mind, Newport - freo Possibly an Uni pub curtin/murdoch/uwa etc

For the past 4 weeks, I've been calling, negotiating and testing pretty much every bar venue in Perth that has internet (about 20 venues). For a variety of reasons, none (except one) is able to accomodate us for free. The vast majority of venue owners in Perth feel that they ought to get paid for accomodating 20-50 drinking paticipants. The Curtin University tavern is available and willing but only during specific semester weekdays until 8pm (and semester finishes in less than a month). Over the past week, I've attempted to arrange a night for the GSTL finals or GSL semi-finals and was rejected for both dates. The possibility to run a Barcraft there is still possible for March next year when the university is open again. Mobile internet is not stable enough for a 450kbps stream. So if you guys want to have a Barcraft during the weekend (eg. GSL finals), we would need to share the cost of a room hire. That is: between $150-$250 per event. Please vote below if you would be willing to pay a cover: Poll: $10 Cover Charge for Barcraft? Yes (16) No (3) 19 total votes Your vote: $10 Cover Charge for Barcraft?

Personally I would be ok with the $10 fee. But I know if I went around to my friends and invited those that dont watch starcraft but play games/would be open to the idea then the $10 fee would be a serious issue. (so I voted no) So if charging a fee is the only way to make barcraft work in Perth, then I think we are doomed. But maybe it will be like fryy says, the first one is enough of a success to make the rest free.
