He was banned for being off-topic. If this was a thread about the morality of homosexuality he probably wouldn't have been banned. Usually it's okay to be controversial and sometimes it's okay to be off-topic, but if people are allowed to be both controversial and off-topic then threads get ruined because everyone wants to respond to the controversial posts. Which is what both of us are doing right now so let's stop.

I can understand what LingKing is saying. By holding gay pride parades and calling attention to the fact that one is gay it is implying that ones sexuality matters when the whole point of the gay rights movement is that it doesn't matter and that people of all sexualities, religions, and races should be treated with the same amount of dignity and respect.
There was a Louis Theroux documentary I watched recently, where he goes to live with Tom Metzger and leaders of the white supremacy movement. He ends up at the home of a skinhead family and after a tour around their house, they ask him if he is a jew. He refuses to answer and justifies it by saying "If I admit to being jewish or not jewish, that's akin to saying that my religion matters when I think it doesn't."
I really like what he said there. However, when gays face such overwhelming discrimination as they do now, I think there needs to be attention called to it for anything to get done. People need to realize gay people live around them in peace and that they aren't a drain on society and that they are more than just their sexuality.

Sucks for you that this is a general forum and there are people like me that have enjoyed this discussion. I'm sure if a gay person starts talking to you directly about "gayness", and you don't care to talk about it and tell him or her that, I'm sure they wouldn't be offended. How about you browse the gaming sections of the site for gaming material? Or how about you read only the news posted on the main part of the site for the news? Or how about you go to a site specifically about gaming? Or one about news? This is the internet and plenty of websites like that exist. But sorry bud, this isn't just a gaming site or a news site this is a community, one of the best ones I've ever been in, and I'm happy to call it that.

If no one talked about discrimination it would probably be because it didn't exist.
I think it's well known that casting judgement on some one for ethnic/religious/sexual backgrounds is wrong. So why do I have to hear about it on my gaming and news forums? I consider this board well informed and intelligent; I don't think there is any secret agendas or movements keeping gay players down. Coming out intentionally separating yourself from the group seems counterproductive to me. Why can't you just find friends who also like playing starcraft? Why are you seeking out players with the same sexual preference as if there is some need to band together?
I wonder how the community response would be if this was a christian starcraft players thread.

On topic: I think most intelligent Westerners who are under 25 don't mind at all about homosexuality and have come to accept it. Of course us heterosexuals will always be curious about what the other sexuality thinks (hence, this thread) but I'd like to believe times have changed since the old gay bashing days.
"Gay" is overused as an insult in schools these days. I hope homosexuals realise that when "gay" is used as an insult, most of the time, there's no real connection to homosexuality anymore since it's so overused.

I'd say that it depends on how you're brought up. The Westboro church people are pretty intelligent; they manage to fund themselves despite the fact that they are universally hated.
