Tournament is over! Gretorp and Tossim are honorary cowinners since we didn't finish the grand finals, (gretorp took home the winners bracket while tossim won the losers bracket..grand finals were not completed at the lan center due to time constraints) thanks to Ryan "HatchetWound" sponsoring the tournament through his company! http://www.4aceshomes.com 4aceshomes.com we had some prize money to give out for this lan and make it a pretty amazing and fun tournament!
Come out for an all day extravaganza on Saturday May 22nd, 2010! Hang out with fellow TL members, play both classic Broodwar and the Starcraft 2 Beta! And have an awesome Korean BBQ dinner! Never been to a DC LAN? This is a great chance to meet TL members, gosu as shit legendary amazing starcraft players (like CaucasianAsian) and for some really fun times.
This will very likely be the last DC LAN I coordinate featuring Starcraft Broodwar! What more could you do to celebrate the end of the epic run Broodwar had for 11 years other than to play it @ LAN in person?!
LAN agenda:
Saturday May 22nd, 2010:
Broodwar Tournament @ Seoul PC Gaming Center (12pm)
Korean BBQ all you can eat buffet dinner. @ il mee buffet (7pm)
Broodwar Tournament: Tournament format will depend on the number of participants. If we have at least 16 there will be a group round robin stage into single elimination bracket. If under 16 players it will be a double elimination bracket. No tournament buy in! No buy in means everyone of every skill level should play for fun! regardless of skill! (The only costs to you are pc use at the LAN center - $2 an hour)
Prizes: at least $50 so far for sc1, sc2 TBD.
Dinner: Most of us will plan on eating dinner @ an all you can eat Korean BBQ buffet place near the LAN center afterwards. $20 gets you into all you can eat Korean BBQ.
Starcraft 2 Beta!: Anyone interested in getting their hands on starcraft 2 beta will have that chance! StorrZerg has two keys, I have a key, Haemonculus has a key. That's at least 4 right there. (If you have a key and plan to come please say so in this thread, the more key's the better!) Regardless we will easily be able to have at least in house 2v2’s. The location this will happen will be a location very nearby the LAN center right after the buffet dinner. If there’s enough keys + interest we could easily have a mini sc2 beta tournament in the early/evening/night.
OSL finals viewing: Since OSL finals are the morning of the LAN we will watch vods of the games after dinner! More details will be announced in the thread.
- You will need around $35 if you plan to spend 6 hours at LAN center and dinner after. - If you plan to travel to this LAN and need a place to stay overnight post in the thread saying so. - If any other concerns/questions/comments post in this thread or message me! Also if you have other questions/concerns I can be easily contacted on MSN: reguleer@gmail.com
EDIT: SC2 won't be out by May 22nd. No wai.

HEY I MIGHT ACTUALLY COME. well at least i'll be back in nova by then. i got an sc2 beta key as well. but for now let's say i remain tentative on going.
And like usual the maybe list is growing quite quickly. ^_^
I'm going to include where people are thinking of coming from or need rides from on the maybe list, it's alot easier when you can find another person to carpool with.
I should be good to go you can put me (keep me) on the confirmed list. I might have sold my house in baltimore city sold so if that is case i have a settlement around the end of may and i don't know what day it is but i can't miss that for the world but im pretty sure it is not on the 22nd. I also might have some money to throw towards the prize pool but i don't want to make any promises till it gets a little closer to lan time.(can't wait to wear my hwaseung oz shirt ^^) Also can't wait till star 2 is released so we can have star 2 lans
It's like a korean BBQ Buffet place, all you can eat Korean BBQ (meats/sushi/random foods like kimchi pancakes and dumplings a little bit of seafood etc...)
yo Alex when we gonna have lunch at potbelly in fairfax corner again? Why'd we only do that once.
And other Alex, I might be able to tomorrow night but LATE like 11pm, but you said late anyway so um yeah. I will text/call you if I can make it by like 7 or 8pm tomorrow.
And intrigue posted in one of these DC LAN threads? I must be dreaming.
Alright well some friends and I area going to be eating at Il Mee tonight regardless of what you nerds do.
Anyone else want to come? I seriously can't overstate how great of a deal this is. $10 for all you can eat fantastic BBQ. Really. How can you turn that down o.o;
And intrigue! You've got to come to either the lan or dinner!!
Alright well my phone battery died again, (I'm really bad at phones apparently), but I'm gonna be over at Il Mee at a bit before 10 tonight. As many nerds as possible should show up, cause it would be awesome.
I might be able to make it. I have other plans in the evening but I might be able to stop by there after... kinda 50/50 though and I probably won't know when I can get there till 8 or 9 tonight which is WHY U NEED A PHONE.
On April 11 2010 03:34 Haemonculus wrote: Ok so LF is a mebbe. More nerds need to make it out tonight plz.
Storr? Caucasian? Wierd? Intrigue? Come on noobs, don't let me down.
Caucasian is back @ radford for a few more weeks till school ends. He drives up alot though just to see me.
I'm about to head out I wont be on TL for the rest of the night... If your phone is dead I'll have no way of knowing anything. Trying to do <24 hour dinners takes skills and gosu phone calling coordination as I found out last week.

I'd love to but I have to work today and tomorrow morning. :D
LF I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make it. Car is in the shop as I type this. You can add me to confirmed. I only need to request the appropriate days off of work and we'll be set.
hey I can't make it to il mee tonight I'll be in DC till late.
slog is NYC
It's just too much trouble with a primary focus on sc2. Can't use the LAN center (unless you run sc2 from a flash drive, does that even work? rofl) Only have a limited number of keys (6 best case?) and the location/logistics is just too tough. Network/setup is trickier, if we hosted at somebody's house you would need internet to all the pc's (no lan for sc2...) and space and everyone would have to byoc. Sure it could work but planning an entire tournament around that just isn't as easy.
I don't want people to travel in for something to fail. Sc1 won't fail now, I have total control over making sc1 work well at the LAN center. If there's enough interest we can host a mini sc2 tournament as well @ Storr's but I can't plan everything around that, just too many variables involved that I don't have control over.
Put me down (as tentative) and a friend.. I'll play in the tournament I guess but I suck.. if there is an SC2 side tourney I'll probably do better in that.
Storr we need to talk Mag+Sent into driving up. although wouldn't this be like a week before Mag's wedding? still can't believe that nerd is getting married. :D
oh yeah that's another awesome thing that happens at these lan's everyone gets to tell stories of how they've been banned over the years. so if you love TL gossip this is definitely something you won't want to miss.

I could probably take the VA Beach people if they could possibly get a ride just a little further north... perhaps Newport News or something? VA Beach is closer to me than DC but it's still a 1.5/2hr drive. Let me know!
Hey would anyone want to make eating at the Il Mee late buffet a weekly thing? Not sure what day would work best for everyone, but I seriously can't get enough of that place.
next two weeks gonna be kinda hellish for me school wise but when early May rolls around and I'll be down for weekly shit. if we do weekly stuff I would be interested in trying other places in the area as well.
Il Mee late buffet is great but variety is fun too!
I know you're busy hanging out with Jaedong and Boxer and Bisu and nal_ra these days but u really should come to our LAN in ur spare time. We need to hear all about ur grand finals experience in China and how u almost beat Idra with a DT rush @ IEF.
I'll be done with Exams by then... This should be fun.
I almost definitely will come. Have a key, am not good at all at SC2 though.
I lost my old iCCup account password but made a new one under this name, in season 10 and 11 I hit C rank and C+ rank respectively on 2v2 ladder. Still, I'm not very good at all at 1v1s and my late game is horrendous. Probably due to the fact that 2v2 is a vastly different machine than 1v1 in terms of metagame and play.
Nobody cares how good you are at anything. Just show up and have some fun. I'm the worst player on TL and especially at the LAN but I still go and obs and play casual games and stuff.

Awesome, that's good to know. I just want to play for kicks mostly. And you're probably better than me at 1v1 No grasp of mechanics to speak of LOL
I go to school in DC and am staying over the summer, might be able to make it (I have a SC2 account, might be able to use two also) but I don't have a car and there isn't really a metro within walking distance, plus it depends on my work schedule, but I guess I'm tentative on it.
Why is there no sc scene in the netherlands? Maybe SC2 will stirr up the quite large pool of great WC3 players we have (had) and will appeal to a lot of mainstream gamers? Else we will never have awesome stuff like this.
fuuuuu my last exam is on 9:00 that day and I'm leaving for a trip on the next day. but i'll try to make it! hopefully if i plan the trip well enough i can finish final go to lan come back and go...but it's really tight >.<
the accounting program at mason schedules some finals for Saturdays every semester regardless of what day of the week your class is on, retarded fockery.
and lol David if you squeeze this lan in between all of that you would be a true hero. Are you doing NIH work again this summer?
and shit I forgot CA was coming this weekend I thought it was next weekend for some reason. anyhow I should be able to make the late night buffet on Saturday... but I'll be in WV all day till like 8pm. I should be back in time for 10pm though it's still kinda close... I should be fine though!
and doesn't matter how new you are. People who have 3 posts sometimes come to these things and have fun. It's so much more awesome browsing TL when you have a dozen+ faces to go with some names.
Unless the beta goes open or you wanna give them ur sc2 beta key it's a no go, I already asked, they don't do betas unless its open and they get requests.
They're bitchy about lots of stuff like watching streams and installing "unauthorized stuff" on their pc's.
I don't see how bringing a flash drive with SC2Beta on it and playing off of that is "installing". It's no more installing than bringing your own maps on a flash drive for SCBW.
What the fuck are they going to do if they see me playing beta? Call the police?
so apparently seoul has beta installed? Chris what's the report?!
I was there last month and there was definitely no beta, and the guy I talked to at the desk didn't know shit... I assume you need a sc2 key/login to play beta ? is it installed on all the pc's or just some? Hmm we could have an sc2 tourney at the LAN center in this case! I'll be @ seoul tomorrow to check it out.
fock I hate these lan centers and their ridiculously screwed up communication, maybe it's cuz I don't speak korean...

Well I went to Seoul to write a paper and email my professor. Anyways, I was using the computer at number 1 and it had SC2 beta installed. So as long as you download it and don't tell them i'm sure that we could have a SC2 tournament and just say it's starcraft 1

Yeah I'm sure the Koreans who work there won't know the difference between SC1 and 2 lol.
So is the plan tonight to just show up at the buffet place at 10? o.O
If you guys are having another one of these korean bbq meetups after may 17th I could be down, if the restaurant is near a metro stop (let me know) and I'm not at work during the time period, I'm always down for some bomb korean bbq and starcraft talk
add me to tentative list - moveout day is may 22 and i might be back in MD in time :D (or maybe i will be drowning in clothing and cardboard, but that's okay)

Well we've been meeting almost every week for BBQ and it has been awesome every time! Storr is the funniest drunk ever, and the food is fantastic!
Omg Hazely you need to show up! It will be awesome!
On April 27 2010 12:18 ZlaSHeR wrote: I'll see what I can do lol, I'm just a college student, no car, so I'd need to find the nearest metro or whatever. How many of you guysgo each week
Edit: Damn just looked up the address the restaurant is like 5 miles away from ANY public transit lol, don't know if I'll be able to make it.
I'm in Foggy Bottom but I could get a pickup from any of the metro stops closest by or most convenient. Would also have to check my work schedule that Saturday but I should be able to make it to that LAN if i can get a lift.
springfield metro isn't that far off, there are a few others just need to find someone thats near a metro to pick you up. thing is it starts at 10, and we usually end around midnight or so. idk how late the metro runs which could be a problem O_o also i don't wanna drive you since i want to drink so no offense
Metro runs real late on weekends (I think like 3 am), if its down, can try to find someone who can drive (I'm just in NW DC so its not like its a long drive). if not, can always try to find a cab, albeit that'll be expensive. Plus since I'm talking more about the LAN in mid May, theres always the option of bumming it up on someones couch until the morning or something when the metro is back up lol.

Yes sir. Just posted on the TL College thread but that hasn't been updated in half a year haha.
talk about how bad of a poster I am - I've been off the nets for a while O_+
but yeah I moved back home to Ky before going to Korea in a few weeks now, haha. I actually have friends over there doing the English teaching thing (completely unrelated to Starcraft if you can believe it) who are having a great time, and I thought man, I'm only young and stupid now, have always wanted to do it, might as well do it now before career dawns on me. I wasn't really happy with my job in DC too :\ so the choice was logical.
but yeah, enjoying some pro-starcraft while I'm there is definitely on the to-do list obviously. I'm cooking up some ideas to do some serious contributing to TL while there too, so look out for that. Meanwhile you guys enjoy the lan, i'll be wishing I was there! ^^
yep gotta have some bw for sure. especially since wcg is going on.
original schedule still stands, we will have both bw and sc2 at this lan.
edit: I can't make tomorrow dinner. Next week possibly but next weekend I'll be studying for finals hardcore so I might be MIA for 2 weeks while I slave.
Hey guys O_O I'm down for some LAN action in NOVA... Sign me up! I don't really play sc1 anymore tho, it's been WAYYY too long... will prob just be grinding sc2 ladder if that's kewl. Also, I have a spare beta key for the tourney! :-)
they're banned from the bbq place for hitting on the food preparer ladys too much and some other nsfw stuff that I shouldn't talk about here. also the bbq place recently put up a pic of another person who's banned from the bbq place anyone know him?

i just wanna eat korean food this weekend!!!!!!! maybe next one too, and next one after that! but i don't know i'm just this guy you know things just happen
it's an all you can eat right?? right??!??!? i'm gonna be sooo happy i can't wait

ahah w/e its all in good sport since intrigue will be coming and ETT (he has to come since intrigue is coming, its the law of the lands apparently) this could turn into a really good eating/drinking night
Anyways, yes I can make it to tomorrow dinner but I'm looking to get a ride either from Foggy Bottom to the place (if its on the way for someone) or from any metro stop or something, would anybody be so gracious? Please help me out you can find me here or send me a PM so we can tlak in private.
I think one problem is that theresl ike 5 stops that are all the same distance away lol, but looking at google maps i'd say either Van Dorn St. is the closest. Should we meet there? And at what time. And who would be able to take 10 minutes of their time to come pick us up lol. Need a response before tomorrow please <3
haemonculus real pro @ getting these dinners figured out.
i will be there tomorrow unless unforeseen circumstances come up at work (I'm working tomorrow afternoon/evening) but it's highly unlikely shit will happen, and if it does I'm leaving early enough I'll just email the Monday crew "shits broke glhf." i love my job rofl.
lol I spent a couple frantic minutes going "Where the heck did my thread go?!" until I realized we have a new forum on TL...Yay! Another suggestion for this subfourm is to sticky the TL user locations to the top. (help promote more people to post in there and also easier for me to reference for various things)
ppl must have seen how epic DC does it and everyone wants to host their own LAN now... That's so awesome.
I can see if myself and a friend of mine can come. Haven't been around TL for long, but it should be fun I figure.
edit: I also have a spare, unused B.net account with the beta if that's useful for anything. It already has a name/id on it and 1-2 placement matches played for 1v1 but other than that, it's unused.
I got into the beta on May 2 and discovered TL today. I live in Arlington VA and can walk to the LAN. Is this worth me going to just to soak up the atmosphere and meet some new friends?
Why not, whats wrong with being new to the scene, a lot of us only started when beta came out, why not come out and have some good food and have fun at a LAN lol, thats my opinion.
that is definitely my line of thinking, good sir. I am new to the dc metro area and am in desperate of friends other than my wife's coworkers, who just stare blankly at my sephiroth poster whenever they come over.
Wish I didn't have to work tonight or I'd totally come down for dinner. Been craving some all you can eat korean bbq and sushi. mmmmmmm. But yeah I'm totally gonna be there the 22nd.
On a side note...I got a beta key a little while ago. So anyone who's still playing add me. It's StonedRabbit.darkness

wow havent checked this thread in forever but yeah. hoping for the best! after that test i'll be really letting loose, will try to make it =). i am doing nih work again over the summer so i will be around till august, so let's get some awesome sc2 lans in there! (i think EVERYONE has a beta by now haha)
you hit me like right in the middle of the chest wtf how is your aim that good when drunk off your ass, especially for someone that's not even like an athlete/baseball player/etc and instead is a computer nerd.
I honestly thought you were gonna miss when you started to throw it rofl
meh sc2 isn't on all the pc's there (less than 1/4th if even)
you can download it but they bitch at you when you do large downloads...says it kills their bandwidth so I can't rely on everyone having to do that.
so yeah...I'm forced to stick with just a fun bw tournament cuz that's easiest logistically due to having this at the LAN center. some pc's at the lan center should have beta it's just too much to plan everything around that for this. I'm sure we'll do an sc2 tourney too I just can't guarantee it beforehand. This'll definitely be the last lan I coordinate before sc2 is officially released though, too gay trying to juggle bw/sc2.
edit: I could put the beta installer on a flash drive possibly. It's not over 4gigs is it?
Could probably just put the sc2 beta on like a thumb drive (i think it's like 5 gb tho so you'd need an 8gb thumb drive) so we could install it without using their bandwidth
added a poll to the OP, everyone go vote whichever wins is what we do, if both wins we will focus primarily on sc2 then time permitting bw for fun. (good chance we will do both anyway but I want to know what people are interested in most so I can focus on making it work beforehand)
I might be able to head there and preload it on like 30 select pc's beforehand... (would save time since ppl will show up late anyway) I'll talk to the owner when I'm there next probably next Saturday.
Keep in mind that if you do put just the installer on a thumbdrive, you then have ~12 patches to download after that.
edit: accidentally voted for just BW in the poll, my bad. I'd prefer both, but if only one is possible, a BW tournament seems more likely to happen, so that'd be my preference of the two (even though I'm terrible at BW).

The installer was only like 1.8 gb in the my documents folder, the actual game is over 5 gb

Yeah If I can't get a ride from orb and rhavanna again I'll let LuckyFool know and I'll get some contact info from you.
Anyways, I voted for both, primarily because I know we're going to have a BW tournament no matter what lol, but an SC2 tournament would be mad fun. Hell I'm going to bring my laptop to the LAN if they don't allow us installing it on their computers, I can also throw the installer onto my flash drive (and just put the installer files into it since they're just 1.7 gb) and see what I can do with that.
Wow no idea I had something this close (I'm in Maryland). Dunno if I can really move my case/monitor for the LAN though, cuz it's a Lian Li. Is there a possibility of using something down at the LAN center? Or is this an actual pc bang (and we just pay by the hour?)
On May 11 2010 14:21 StorrZerg wrote: sweet, hehe now is the osl finals (or msl) that weekend? and is it after the lan (that night) or the night before?
The OSL finals (flash vs effort (sorry kal olol)... i'd like to see effort take it, but it won't happen) take place at 5:00 AM that day, so that shouldn't conflict. I'm really excited for the MSL finals the weekend after, though.
BTW, do any of the places that we'll be that day have age restrictions? My friend and I are both 17.
we're looking like at least 25 now but maybe more.
I highly recommend anyone interested in beta downloading the installer on a flash drive if you have a 4 or 8gb flashdrive (in case it's not loaded on your PC at the lan center) the problem though is there's 12+ worth of patches to download too, dunno how we're gonna get around that, the LAN center might bitch at us... oh well that'd be nothing new.
With an 8 gb drive you can fit the whole game, with a 4gb or 2gb you can fit the installer but then dl all the patches. I only have a 4gb but lets hope a lot of people can bring the 8gb
ok well people bring the whole game if you can! That way we could have a beta tournament too. :D Get eliminated from the bw tournament adds your name into the beta tournament! how about that.
as long as we have like what, 8 computers or so, we could easily run a full tournament, even 4 computers is enough sinec we could do 2 matches at a time and it'll be a bracket of 16 probably.

LoL its really funny you expect effort to beat kal, thats cute. and for conflict that fucken sucks. Granted we could do what we did the first time, everyone avoid watching or looking at the games etc, and then we can possibly all go and watch them after the lan. That might be a pretty sweet deal
How will you handle the food arrangements with this many people? I assume any restaurant would not want to serve 25+ guests at the same time without a heads-up on the situation.
if we have over 24 people we might have to go in two groups. 24 is 4 tables at the place we usually go to... and that's already quite a large group at once.
Next week I'm going to send out a batch of PM's to recheck the confirmations to figure out exactly how many people are coming but we keep getting new signups still... And it seems like we might have over 24.
LF, if the amount of people is a problem for seating at the LAN (don't know how big it is) I'm fairly certain all 5 of my friends will sit the tournament out for space and people who actually can play.. they dont even go to TL mostly.. but if it isn't a problem then nvm.
On May 12 2010 08:44 CaucasianAsian wrote: will we go for the late night menu or for everything?
Depends on how long the lan runs I guess. Also depends on what food we want. The selection is much wider during the day/evening, but it costs about twice as much.
However, this saturday! More noms! Same plan as last time yes yes?

Age restrictions, no you guys are fine.
I'd love to see Effort beat Kal. I like Effort, but I honestly don't know much about either player. I know that in recent days Effort has been playing excellently (his ZVP is like 70+%?), so I figured he'd take it based on my little knowledge of either player. I'm good with Flash playing either of them, though, as I'm sure it will be entertaining.
Also, I'd totally be up for watching the games after the lan. That would be awesome.
Also, I don't think I'll even participate in the tourney if space is an issue. Its been a good 10 years since I played BW. I'm perfectly happy meeting you guys and watching some games.
considering most people will want to eat at a reasonable time ie 5-7, i think 10 would be a bit to much and people would end up pigging out at the nearest fast food joint
I don't care who's participating in the tournament(s) on LAN day. I highly encourage everyone to play regardless of bw/sc2 skill levels. they will be for fun no buy in (already will have LAN center fees) but there will be donations for a prize pool especially if we have an sc2 tournament.
There are over 80 pc's at the lan center and it won't be too crowded at noon so we should be able to pretty much take over the place like we usually do.
What I do care about is the dinner number.
I'm sending out a batch of PM's tomorrow to get a headcount on who's interested in dinner. (I would assume most that I have on the confirmed list here are interested) I'm going to be calling the restaurant and making a reservation on Saturday May 15th, right now it's looking like it'll be for around 25-30 people which includes a few tentatives that are likely to come.
Anyone who hasn't responded to their PM saying they are interested in a dinner seat by Saturday the 15th might not have a spot in my reservation!
Also I'm sending reminder PM's to the tentative list soon too.
I'm interested in attending. I'm fairly new to the SC scene, and I didn't discover this site until the release of the SC2 beta. I also only moved to Arlington a little over a year and a half ago, but i definitely want to get in on this experience.
25 people busting in on Seoul PC will be so funny. Do the people there have any idea we're coming because it's going to be funny when we're all there with the same game on the screen, haha
Ok sent out reminder/dinner reservation PM's to like 30+ ppl rofl I'm scared to log back in gonna have so many PM's to sort through...
I assume the majority of people at the LAN also want to go to dinner but I wanted to send out reminders anyway to get an accurate number for when I make the reservation. A bunch of my confirmed/tentative list hasn't posted in here in a while.
Please if your interested in dinner RESPOND to your PM (or PM me if you haven't already or didn't get a PM) before Saturday May 15th because I'm calling them over a week ahead of time warning that we might have like 30 people coming rofl. If you don't see your name on the dinner list in the O.P and you want to go to dinner contact me!
I think just sit next to friends or people you wanna chat it up with. Korean bbq is good for socializing around, no need to be TOO organized about who sits where and stuff lol
people can sit with whoever they want I'm interested in figuring out how many to make a reservation for. we're gonna have to have like 4 tables at least rofl.
A couple of my confirmed list were from the planning thread months ago so things might have changed, still waiting to hear from some of them.
gonna be calling dinner place tomorrow still haven't heard from like 8 people on that list.
Sorry everyone but I might not be able to make dinner on the 22nd. I'm leaving the 23rd to go up to New York with a friend whose driving up the 22nd. Depending on when he gets here (he's 4 hrs away) will determine if I can go.

So I'm tentative on dinner the 22nd.
But still down for tomorrow if anyone is going
you driving me tomorrow? going to find my house on time?
well the lan place isn't in DC it's like 3 miles outside in Virginia. You could take bus to dc chinatown and then get on metro from chinatown to right outside the city (dunn loring or springfield stop) and then somebody could def drive u to the lan center there are already a couple others gonna be metroing in prolly.
I am going to be driving and if anyone needs a ride still i can give you one. Also is anyone interested playing a few on ICCUP? I need some BW practice too much SC2 lately lol! msg me or i might be on my name is Karnage[fun] on iccup. Karnage.fun on SC2.

Hey, I just realized that you've put me on the confirmed list. I'm sorry if my PM wasn't really clear, but I'm still fairly tentative. I have yet to secure a ride. Again, I'll let you know on Wednesday at the latest.
last call to get on the dinner reservation list. I'm going to make reservations for 26 so far that's how many have confirmed with me that want to go to dinner together.
Additional options for those not interested in the group dinner there's always KFC across the street glhf.

whoa I see we have some strict moderation going on in here now. I agree this thread shouldn't be an IM window but I don't think it's gotten that bad.
These aren't one line posts with no content. Sure they might not apply to the entire group but they apply to those who were at dinner last night which is more than just orb and storr.
It would be unfortunate if somebody got banned simply by making plans with someone in here. By taking these posts to PM it removes the chance for others to chime in and work out future plans. For example we've had this happen: storr will say something like "I need a ride who can drive me," somebody will respond but then later say "Sorry I can't drive you storr." If that "sorry I cant drive you storr" was PM nobody else would see that eliminating the chance someone else would chime in with "Oh but I can drive you!" of course if it was all PM after realizing his original ride can't make it Storr could then post publicly again in the thread that he needs another ride but there's still another post in the thread not really cutting down on spam in the end.
I guess ultimately my biggest gripe Kennigit, is I really don't want people being afraid or getting banned by posting in here which is actually my only way to contact and communicate with a bunch of them.

Yeah I really don't see the big deal. If I'm talking to literally only one other person then maybe, but if I'm making a comment for multiple people (aka people that went to the dinner + storr or other people in the future that might need a ride) I don't see the harm in using the forum for what it's for... talking with other people.
I mean FFS have you seen live report threads? Tons of people spam 1 line posts sometimes in all caps if something is intense in a game that literally no one else cares about or reads (or even if they do they weren't directing it towards other people they're just sharing their emotions) and people never seem to get banned for that. It's how we get these people that pop up out of no where with 4k posts that no one knows.
I understand many moderation issues like the need to stay on topic, keep a civil conversation going, and contribute, but having conversations with people in a topic about the topic of the thread seems like the entire purpose of a forum to me...

The posts that were warned on this page are pretty clearly directed at one person.
This:
WTF Storr I called you like 10 times in a row after you txt'd alex that your ride bailed... I was gonna come pick you up but you refused to answer your phone lol...
Is clearly an IM or PM directed at Storr. A lot of one on one conversations is no what a thread is for. Live report has nothing to do with this, not sure why that's brought up.
I don't want to seem like some dictator who is wet blanketing your fun -- I'm coming to the LAN next weekend. However, I don't think us mods asking for some restraint in the thread is unreasonable. Just tone it down a bit.
I want to watch it but if its 5 AM EST, and I'd have to get up at like 11 for the LAN I'm not sure if I'll manage lol.
Although, even after watching the CJ v KTF match last night, I still don't think its the same in a BO5 situation between Flash against anyone but the Dong.
Is it too late to add myself for dinner on the 22nd? I'm still planning on going and if all goes well maybe I can bring Wala too (somebody needs to bring him if i can't!). No BW for me though, probably just HoN if the computers there have it
Also, gonna be an awesome LAN everybody needs to make sure they bring cameras!
I have no group plans for the OSL finals. it's actually a coincidence they are the same day, I set the date for this lan 2+ months ago.
Saturday is gonna be long enough day for me already and I wanna get more than an hour of sleep the night before. Doesn't mean mini plans could/will happen but I really wanted people to be getting to the lan center by 12-12:30pm.
Is there any chance we can like get together and watch the OSL finals NOT at 5:30 am or w/e? Like watch vods later in the day and no one look at results?
I understand if you don't want to do that since there is something special about watching the matches live but there's no way I'm waking up at 5 am to watch brood war and then staying up past midnight drinking/mining minerals lol

I agree, maybe someone could record them and we can watch em at night drinking and mining vespene gas
If someone can download the VoDs onto their laptop and bring along whatever cables are needed to plug a computer into a TV, then we can certainly watch them at my place. We've already got set up a nice large HDTV.
Unfortunately, some of my roommates are in the process of moving out, and others moving in, and so we're a little sparse on furniture at the moment. We used to have all these awesome massive couches, but no more, T_T; So sad.
Let me know if anyone would be up for something like that. Our place is open to just about anything, so minerals, smoking, etc, are all fine and dandy.
Hello everyone! having an sc2 tournament now opens up a volunteer position I'll need to fill for this event: I'm looking for an sc2 tournament orchestrator. this person should be experienced running tournaments with some sort of bracket system (binary beast etc) and willing to show up at 11:30am on LAN day to meet me for a few things to take care of, take names as people show up, set rules/format and keep track of results as the sc2 tournament happens.
I'll be doing all of this for the bw tournament and if there's any overlap or the tournaments are run semi-concurrently (we need to make sure everyone can play in both bw and sc2 if they want!) I'll absolutely need an sc2 goto person to help keep things on track and organized since we're gonna have so many people running two tournaments alone even if done separately is more work than I can take on myself.
Also some of the PC's have beta installed already but we need at least 3-4 people to bring the sc2 installer on a flash drive! (Preferably the full latest patched client if that's possible?!) please PM me if you can do this.
If there is actually going to be sc2 played at the lan, and there is still room, I would love to go. No flash drive though :\ If there is still room for the lan/dinner let me know and I'll confirm. Would be driving from Columbia, MD (between DC and Baltimore) if anyone needs a ride.
Soo I've been pretty much only been playing sc2 beta since two weeks ago...and haven't touched BW in a long time. Any of you guys be up for some BW practice tonight? I haven't played in years, but it'd be better to get the rust off before Saturday haha.
I would love to go to this. I'm pretty new to the TL community but I live in NoVA and have actually been looking for something like this so I plan on coming for some casual SCBW and the SC2 beta tournament. Could I be added for the LAN stuff and dinner?

Hey guys. My place is available as a location for an after-party or OSL/MSL/whatever watching location. But I do need to know somewhat in advance if I'm going to be having a bunch of nerds over.
there is no plan so far for OSL/MSL. it was a pure coincidence that it's the same date. The skies the limit for what people want to do. if people can head over your place after Haemonculus that would probably be awesome.
I actually have the night free since this is coming up..... so I think I can make this in the evening.
I would probably only be able to make the dinner & after party (SC2 or OSL is fine with me) though so put me down for that. Haven't played BW in forever and haven't touched SC2 beta yet... mmm.
Oh yeah, anyone going to the dinner can you shoot me a PM with your # or I can shoot you mine... just want to make sure I can meet you guys at the right time/place if you're running behind or early.
Ok so here's the conundrum of the day, if we're planning an OSL viewing party AFTER the lan, a good 12+ hours after the OSL finals will be played live can we trust 30+ ppl to not spoil the results during lan afternoon?
Since there will be an after party for the osl (i think?), Would be super cool if people could try and keep quiet about the results and the games. Cause many of us will be trying to remain spoiler free for the lan.
On May 19 2010 12:44 LuckyFool wrote: Ok so here's the conundrum of the day, if we're planning an OSL viewing party AFTER the lan, a good 12+ hours after the OSL finals will be played live can we trust 30+ ppl to not spoil the results during lan afternoon?
Or we could just have a party the night before too?
I'm up for korean BBQ two nights in a row
edit: actually hmmm it's at 5 AM EST. mayyyyyyyyyybe not.
I know Il Mee buffet has their late night from like 10 PM to 2 AM... but I don't think that's late enough for a stay-up-for-OSL party unless some people are going to do it regardless. If it takes ~2 hrs then you'd get about 4-5 hours of sleep until the LAN... haha.
no really though there is no way we're gonna remember to not spoil results after a hours of playing sc and later few bottles of soju. why not watch live? can this be arranged?
what about a before-party at a more reasonable time, like if we met up at haemonculus's house with the vods at like 9:30am or something and watched then?
Hrm maybe the vods wouldn't be released yet tho I dunno how quick they usually get released nowadays :\
OSL must punish us for living on the east coast. How about the MSL? Is that also at an equally unreasonable time? I don't think the VOD's will be up for OSL THAT early, in fact it'll be disgustingly hard to keep the LAN spoiler free.
We will just have to remind every single person when they come in to not spoil it under pain of death. I think its very possible to make it i have faith in tl members i swear.
I think its still best to keep the osl viewing after the lan. Everyone just talk about sc2 in the mean time ^_^
Alright well do let me know what we decide on. Just about anything works for me, but I do need to give my housemates a heads up about a buncha nerds coming over to watch SC.
hey lucky did u get my msg? I should be able to contribute 50$ min for the tourney prize pool. I have been so busy with work i haven't play any sc bw in like 3 weeks so im extreamly outta shape i have probably played like 10 games in the past 2 months. I also haven't had time to check tl much but i will be coming to the lan for sure this weekend can't wait tooo see everyone there(probably coming to dinner and sc 2 afterwards as well)
yes sorry if I didn't respond I'm not responding to every message, getting alot lately.
Prize is good, you'll be our only sponsor probably for the bw tournament ryan, some sort of backing to give the tournament some sort of stakes is good. there's always a line to skirt with these lan's of how competitive or how casual to make them. I know the majority of people attending are of a more casual variety (at least in terms of actual skill) so I typically try to keep the tournament fairly casual to appeal to everyone, (hence no buy in etc promoting everyone to play purely for the fun of it) I want everyone coming to play and have fun because ultimately that's the goal at these lan's. but I also want to reward the better players who are coming, or who are driving from a distance to play in an event. Some higher level players travel to play in an event and you get a higher quality of games and a more intense feel when there's at least SOMETHING on the line so that's the great thing having at least some sort of a prize adds.
by the way this is all for the bw tournament, it's interesting how the majority of the voting is for starcraft 2 yet I'm only receiving support help and prize pool donations for the bw tournament. so far I've only been contacted by ONE person who can bring an sc2 installer on a flash drive and NOBODY wants to help orchestrate the tournament (posted for some help last page).
lulz if you guys expect me to run two tournaments alone it'll end up being two bw tournaments rofl.
I'm not running the sc2 tournament nor am i bringing a flash drive with sc2, going to focus on having a good time with bw. Eating korean food getting drunk and watching the osl finals
I can help organize the brackets i suppose. but that is if the tournament is at Seoul PC. Cause I have to leave and meet a friend whose driving 4+ hours the same day at like 7ish
I didn't tell you on any PM, but I said I could try to bring the installer since its only like 2.5 gb on a flash drive, but thats just the installer and it'll take longer to download all the patches. As for running the tournament, Throw up a bracket, bring a piece of paper and a pen and people can write results of matches down and we'll know who advances that way. Simple as that :o
no other lan center as big and as cheap in the area sadly stuck using the dark smokey ghetto lan center that is SeoulPC.
their non smoking section is fail, it's not even well separated from the rest of the place.
so caucasianasain can be sc2 bracketmaster I'll be sc1 bracketmaster. yay.
surprisingly (or maybe not surprisingly) half the ppl who go to these lan's are chain smokers themselves, buncha cancer stick users srsly.
as of right now we have 33? that's quite impressive by far the largest group we've ever had. this lan has been annoyingly difficult to organize and plan primarily because of this crazy sc2beta stuff and increased number of interested users and osl finals same day...
Also a CaucasianAsian Friendly Reminder to everyone.
Bring a bottle of water or two from home. You'll want to drink water as the smoke can get to you and can give headaches. I have found that out when I bring water it helps it out. Maybe it's because I smoke as well. Or something to do with dehydration? I don't know.
Would prefer to be in a non-smoking area if we're gonna be in a hotbox filled with computers lol, but hell, I guess it won't matter where we sit if thats the case.
Alright, I'm bringing SC2 on a flash drive, and i'll help LF and CA organize the SC2 tourny and get that shit set up ahead of time for people coming in so we don't waste too much time.

It depends, but it can be REALLY bad... I had a chain-smoking Korean kid sitting right next to me, with smoke blowing right across my face for about 4 hours, guy smoked an entire pack in that time span.
Yeah being from California where smoking indoors is illegal was something that was kinda nice, but its not like I'll throw a fit just because someones smoking in there, unless they're just blowing it in my direction non stop.
its open 24 hours. show up early is better, I don't have enough reservations for everyone anyway but hopefully there'll be plenty of available PC's they have like 80+ and the place is never more than half full before like 5pm.
werd ill be there at like 10am ish im dling sc2beta to my dads comupter now for some warmup games if anyone wants to play. sadly i got blackout drunk one night and threw up all over my laptop.
you can go to the lan center without a laptop if you plan to go to the after party and want to lan more (some people only going to the after party) you will have to BYOC because its at a house not a lan center.
Ok tomorrows the big day! Looks like the majority wants both tournaments yay! Here's more or less an agenda for tomorrow so everyone's on the same page! get to the lan center early!
sc;bw bracket manager: me sc2 bracket managers: CaucasianAsian + SadistX
if u have sc;bw question go to me. if you have sc2 question go to CA or SadistX. Brackets will be edited into this post when they go live.
prep/sign in will go from 11;30am-12;30pm tournament will run from 12;30-6ish (4 groups, top 2 from each group advance into a single elimination ro8, all matches bo3) first and second will absolutely get prize money! We have a number of fairly competitive bw players that will be showing so I'm hoping for some high quality games! everyone give a huge thanks to HatchetWound for sponsoring the bw tournament!!!
This will also most likely be the last time we have a broodwar tournament at a teamliquid LAN. I won't be planning another lan of this magnitude until AFTER sc2's official release.
prep/sign in will depend on how quickly the pc's get set up at the lan center, sc2 tournament will probably start around 2-3pm or so maybe earlier definitely won't be starting right at 12;30 though because installing will probably have to happen on most of the pc's. Plus people should have a chance to play in both so by having sc2 start a bit later that gives everyone time to play their bw matches.
tournament format and bracket keeping will be handled by CA and SadistX so make sure to find one of those guys for registration when you get to the lan center. Also if anyone is interested in donating so sc2 has a prize for top 2 or 3 make sure to tell one of those guys so far we've had lots of interest in sc2 but no sponsors!
Dinner is 7pm, if sc2 tournament isn't completed by dinner it's possible the final four or finals will be played during the after party. (it might be a good idea to save the sc2 finals for the after party anyway if the finalists are going to the after party and because if we start a tournament at 2 or 3pm there's no way it'll be done by 7pm)
we have flexibility here now which is great.
See everyone tomorrow! if anyone has questions about anything PM me, I'll give me cell number to anyone attending tomorrow via PM just PM me. Thanks!
No guarantees I'll be there before 12:30, I plan to leave my place around noon-ish but make sure I'm signed up for the tournament, I'll definitely be there at the start and will be prepared to grind out nonstop games in a row if i'm late and have to catch up
confirmation stage is up for bw! if you're planning to play in the bw tournament but not be there early make sure to let me know via PM. I'll be adding names through 12:30pm tomorrow but if you think you might not show up too early like ZlaSHeR gotta let me know so I can add you in so you'll be in anyway! everyone should play it'll be suppppper fun!!!!>!<!>!
There have been a few setbacks with getting SC2 on the flash drive, so I will probably have to not participate in the BW tourny and set up the PCs for SC2. What would be helpful is if everyone who's coming would post their emails here in advance, so you can add each other on battle.net or I can tell people who to add.
That or just give me your email when you come into the LAN center tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get at least 8-12 PCs with beta installed very quickly if they don't have it installed there.
i'm still unsure of whether i'll be able to make it or not. depends on whether some of my other plans go through. i'll try my best to make it though. til then, let's watch effort get smashed.
hopefully sc2 goes smoothly and we can get it installed alright. the lan center doesn't like large downloads cuz it hogs bandwidth... sigh so many uncertainties with sc2 hope it goes well, sadistx u are our sc2 hero thanks so much!
Yeah once again I can't come guys. I reallllllllllllly wanted to, too. Lots of drama going on over here and I just can't dedicate the time today. I'll be there in spirit!
I'm in the same boat as LordWierd guys... too much irl stuffz going on that prevent me from being able to dedicate a whole day to this. On the bright side, I should have a house very soon...

FEEL GUILTY PLEASE
Yeah, I do, I really wanted to meet you guys. Never met another staff member before.
But we're about to run up to the house right now and do one last pass through to test the water. I've already cleared it with the Mrs.; I plan on hosting some LAN parties once I get things up and running. ^_^
Hey guys thanks for the great time. On a side note i put sc2beta on my pop's computer if anyone wants to play, gophillies3939@yahoo.com is my e-mail so f add meee
thanks for coming today everyone I love all you nerds! (except for that tossim kid, kid has the most crazy luck vs me at these lan's I'm always one game from advancing and he just pulls random shit out of nowhere 24/7. LOL JK! <3)
everyone who drove a distance to come is amazing (hotbid mango, gretorp slog and anyone else who came from various locations in the northeast) haemonculus is amazing for allowing us to take over her place for epic OSL vod viewing, hatchetwound for being an absolutely amazing sponsor, (he even wrote up a ceremonial "check" to give to the winner with the prize money and had a formal ceremony with pictures OMG so amazing <3 <3 <3 get those pics up asap whoever took them)
caucasianasian has video interviews with a few people. I'm scared to see that heheh. :D
and also a big thanks to all the first timers who came to their first DC lan! floophead, ranix and co. (awesome crew drove from Richmond omg epic!) dw (who schooled me hardcore in sc2 b4 bnet died...i needz to practice how to defend proxy gate T_T), crusha and bro and all the others who I didn't get a chance to talk with as much (means u need to get posting more, one way to start is to BLOG ABOUT HOW AWESOME YOUR DAY WAS TODAY!)
anyway if anyone has thoughts/suggestions/comments to improve the experience in any way or suggestions for future lan's pm me to make the experience even better in the future.
until then make sure to keep a close eye on the TL community fourms for future events lans and get togethers!
Damn, wish I had seen this sooner. I gotta watch this stuff closer.
Hopefully I'll be there next time! I don't know if it was BYOC or whatever, but at the very least I would have specced and brought my camera (Canon 50D) and could have taken some pictures for the community.
CA took pictures but he won't upload them for at least a week since he was going gambling for a little while lol, few others had cameras but i dont' remember who.
woohoo gereth glad u had fun. isn't it awesome to have a bunch of faces to put with names on TL now?
still waiting for somebody to BLOG about yesterday...
CA says he's gonna upload the pics/vids as soon as he can hopefully should be tonight or tomorrow but I'm sure his cameras battery is dead and he left his chargers/plugs in VA like usual. ROFL

FUCK. Camera charger is back in VA. but I got the videos here. I'll upload them now.
Thanks for every one that came over to the DC LAN, I hated when the SC2 b.net got mess up. I was about go get owned By Gretorp hahaha, I will change My name From STarsDC TO Halation. SInce i will be more active in SC2 As Halation.
hey morningmusume i wanna see my lame interview r u gunna post it thanks dude.( i got a few friends who i wanted to show it to) I had a great time with every one thanks to lucky for hosting and haemonculus for having the osl viewing after party, greatly appreciated. Once again as usual look forward to our next meet up i am assuming its gunna be a sc2 fest so i better start practicing. And to all the new faces i met it was nice meeting you all please come to the next lan the more repeat customers the better the experience for every one thanks
I'd like to say i only got carded twice because of a certain someone asking the waitress to recard me.... and it was not the same waitress....
And starsdc, you did not get carded since i showed my ID first, once they see my id no need to check anyones id lol (not to mention i doubt you ordered the first round at your table)
man I just realized the same ppl basically got interviews, I interviewed CA and hatchet at that one lan in november lol oh well we're always the life of the party anyway
Thank you Hot_Bid for unbanning me haha. Hope you had a great time in our version of K-Town although I'm sure NYC's K-Town so much better. lol geez, this was the lan that convinced me to get unbanned. Gretorp you're right btw, it's almost impossible to give up gaming haha. Hope you and Slog made it back safe to Jersey
Oh yea Orb where in NoVA you live at? Your Stalker micro vs those Vikings / Banshees was too gosu lol.
Oh and Hatchet that interview wasn't lame You gosu man ^^ I just wish you didn't get gayed during your last game.
Anyways for all those who made it thanks so much cuz it was such a blast. Btw Alex you look SOOOO much better than Idra, no comparison there ^^ Rob and Sadistx you guys were great in coordinating. I'm gonna throw Zlasher under the bus here but I spoiled the Flash/Effort game to him hehe. And since I'm known for being a huge K-Pop guy here's a fitting song...
It's a pity SC2 crapped out on us, but the tournament can still be finished. If you do play the matches, PM me the results so I can forward you and we can have a winner
Sorry Haemonculus for saying you look like Idra, it must have been the curly hair and the bad lighting <_<
Great turnout, epic games, looking forward to the next one!
PS: LuckyFool needs to try more all-in strategies and finally defeat Tossim next lan ^_^ .
Man, so sad that i missed out Might not be the most active member of the community (far far from it) but it seems like everyone had an amazing time. I almost want to suggest another meet-up before the beta ends, but I know that a lot of people traveled quite a distance and that it may be too soon.
asdasfasfjasfasf I haveee to come next time.
EDIT: What schools/whatever is everyone here in DC, by the way? I'm at the Art Institute of Washington in Rosslyn. In the middle of the day between classes I'm often bored, so perhaps if someone wants to throw down in some games somewhere nearby it could be arranged.
I have no plans to do another one of these during beta. my next lan will be some time after sc2 is released, there may be a lan or two that somebody else sets up before then.

may be? What a jerk. I'm hosting a LAN in July guys, Luckyfool was supposed to let you all know but he's a heartless soul. gg

I wasn't supposed to do anything. I offered that I would mention your lan to a few people I thought would be most interested and I did that. what more do you expect. You don't help advertise or plan my lans and yet I'm "supposed" to help you advertise and plan yours?
I offer to do a few favors for you mack and then you act like I didn't do what I was "supposed" to. -_-
also you have like 4 confirmations after a month of that thread being up. not exactly solid stuff happening numbers wise yo.
I just don't think it'll have huge numbers with SC2 down and all, a lot of the people who showed up to this LAN were expecting SC2 and we had it for an hour or two til it went down so yeah.

I have to imagine that people do that for the trolling and don't actually consistently win with it, but then I remember that most people are bad at this game and I should do this too (for the trolling, not the winning ).
I was working at a government facility all day and afterwards I passed out. lol.
My boss must read TL, because I swear to god I get called in to work every fking Saturday that Rob hosts a LAN. The first three LANs were epic and I've missed EVERY ONE SINCE.
ARRRGH.
Glad you guys had a great time (except BNET crashing. Fawk) and I will see you guys in the first SC2 LAN!

No respect for people with 50k subscribers trying to ADVERTISE the use of cheese and never playing straightup.

lol you only think i'm bm because you don't know me ^_<. Anyways robert, I can't help it if my LAN thread isn't as popular as yours yet, but it's 2 months away, so there's plenty of time for it to get attention.. plus this is the first LAN i'm hosting, so give me a break~
