Probably better for your shoulders. Gym management won't let us. My friend was power cleaning and someone actually told him he had to stop cause the bar could break. Because Olympic bars obviously break when you use them for Olympic lifts.
I hate people so much that it's not even funny.

I would just work light snatches at the start of the workout to get the form right. I'm not sure why your shoulders would hurt when doing hang cleans. Post a video of your form?

I'm unsure if I should go to the gym right now (morning) or go later (in the afternoon) as I commonly do.
Oh well, I think I'm going to play some SC2 :D

I can't say I'm all that surprised though. I've heard of some incredibly stupid gyms in the past.
I know that at Planet Fitness, emitting any sort of noise at any time may set off the lunk alarm.
Some other gyms ban deadlifts because they're "bad for the back."
....Yeah, I'm really fortunate to have found my gym in the end. While there are a lot of idiots who just don't know how to do any lifts whatsoever there, the owner of mine recognizes the importance of lifting weights. There is chalk available to anybody who requests it, and that in itself is a miracle; a lot of American gyms ban the stuff because they're run by ignorant people. I've even heard of a guy bringing his own liquid chalk and getting chewed out by a staff member for it.
Gah, when I go to the gym I just want to be left alone. From the second I walk in the door to the second I leave, I just want to lift weights with a buddy. No advice from other people, no staff member intervention, no listening to jackasses talk for 15 minutes between sets. Beautiful. I honestly may invest in a home gym one day to get this.

Has anyone done the "Insanity" workout DVD set? I am not a muscle type guy, I do running, and calistenics and not much "weight lifting". I just want somthing that is a better routine and can give me some strength training. My roomate ordered it so we are going to start here in the next week.
Just curious if anyone has tried it and what kind of results they got out of it.

Any strength gains on Insanity that you get will be marginal at best. It's a cardiovascular/endurance workout before anything else.
If you want to do strength training, great. Just seek it with a barbell and some heavy weights. Save yourself some time and skip Insanity.

Like I said, I am not the weight lifting type. I have some dumbells and stuff that I use twice a week for some workout. But I just want to be in better "shape". Tone/definition and a little weight loss. I am not looking to be able to lift a fridge over my head lol.

Yeah rosa i went to a planet fitness at home for a while because its the only commercial gym in the area and it was 10$/month. Gave up on it and started going to my high school after PF banned deadlifts, rows (posterior chain is clearly not needed!), put the squat rack in the attic, and removed their benches.

The "weightlifting type" is anyone who wants to get stronger and healthier. There is no "toning", there is just more or less muscle to a higher or lower body fat % If you lift big, your muscles will become a greater ratio of your body weight, resulting in lower bf% and more definition. Your best option is compound barbell lifting and a good diet which will yield much better results than your "insanity" program which will probably just be a lot of conditioning.

Alright. Snatches are the one lift i never really ever worked in high school. I'll try to get a video of my form. And i'm just wondering, my traps have been getting uber sore from when i lower the bar from shoulders. Maybe i just need to get bigger traps :D
Also, our team ran train this week, 67-7. Scored a couple times and dumped a couple of big guys. epic picture of me :D + Show Spoiler +

I'm the same. I try to go the gym really early in the morning not because I like to lift in the morning but because I just want to lift in peace without having to wait for the power racks. I want to lift without somebody trying to give me advice no matter how good their intentions might be or not.

Transiting back from the US, in Auckland at the moment waiting for a flight home.
2 weeks of American food, argh.. I tried so hard to eat healthy in the first few days, but even their freakin' salads are enormous. I even went to the hotel gym 3-4 times, and then it all went down hill on th second week. I could see a 4 pack before I left, that's now gone. I think I would have put on 2-3kg, It's going to take another 4-5 weeks to get back to where I was and continue on from there.
Oh well, summer doesn't really start until Jan/Feb for us so I still have time to become a sexy beast.

Lol i feel like your life is a constant cycle of being healthy at home and unhealthy while traveling.
Deadlifted today for the first time in too long...probably 3 weeks. Managed to get up 10x225, 8x295, 6x315, 6x345, 6x375, 4x405. Pretty sure thats less than what i was doing this summer. When i can lift heavy more than 1-2 days a week after season i'm going to get so fucking huge T_T Did 5x5 @ 175 for incline bench since i've neglected it for a few months now and finished up with some pull ups and planks. While doing planks the entire college dance team came in and was standing right in front of me and my roomate. I dont think he's ever flexed so hard in his life rofl. But i think they're helping out with my slipped SI joint, it's been getting better recently. Gonna go try some planche work now for a bit.

I agree. You should consider squatting and benching your family members if the gym is not an option.

was in a car accident and suffered a strained LCL aka lateral collateral ligament (a ligament on the outside part of the knee) >: ( needless to say it's cut my hockey season short, and set me back a bit at the gym. but months of physiotherapy later and the doctor's ok i'm ready to go back and destroy the squat rack. rawr! wish me luck
