My steelseries siberia microphone is not working, windows does recognise it and so does ventrilo etc, just not working when i did select it! It's not a usb headset, so if anyone can help me would be much appreciated, I did all the above(updated drivers and stuff) yet still no result. Thanks in advance.

But to the point: Did you test another mic in the same socket? Does it work? If yes -> Then you should uninstall/reinstall all software for your Siberia headset and reinstall from scratch. If nothing continues to happen, you might have to go as far as to try it on a different computer/sound card before taking it to the warranty. If no -> Most likely, you need to reinstall your sound card drivers. I had the same issue on my Audigy sound card. Windows used to find more than one microphone, and only one of them worked. Again, uninstall/reinstall sound card drivers from scratch, then go to the sound card setup and make sure you try all "mics" that show up there. Faster work-around would be to try it first on a different computer, because if it works then you know for sure it's either sound card drivers or siberia drivers. Did it EVER work? Or did you just get it like that?

I forgot to add that the cable are abit broken, but are still together with tape. I'm a complete noob on this level but can do has to do with it? another mic does work, its just a very bad one and I want the siberia 1 to work. Also i did remove the drivers I guess? like Your computer->properties and then remove the siberia headset, still no progress. I'm gonna test this on the other computer now! thx !

Also, if the mic cable is broken, then it's pretty much toast. I have done quite a few "dismembering gadgets" in my life, from my G15 keyboard to my G5 mouse, to a lot of PSUs to change fans, etc. But I could never get a mic cable to work again by mending it back together. I think you need to keep the thin copper wire inside the outer "net", which is very hard to do as an amateur. So, if the driver reinstall doesn't work, I'd take it to a professional audio store or something, or back to warranty (but they will probably consider it your fault, since it's physical damage).
