Nice things about the Thor: Great cooling! ~200mm fans (exhaust on top, intake on front and side) with a 120mm exhaust fan on the back. Room for one more 120/140mm intake fan on the floor. Top opens up with a slider and should generally be left open. Decent-wattage fan controller built into front panel. Very spacious: good cable management system with holes passing between the sidewall. lots of room to put your arms in there, plenty of space for long GPUs and drives Frontpanel area has good ports, everything you'd want there Very quiet Bad things: Can be pricy when it's not on sale Frontpanel Leds are red (I think it's manly, but some peopel don't like red) Top which can be opened/closed for airflow purposes is finnicky, also you never close it except when you're doing work or moving the machine Another choice I've heard good things about is the Rosewill R5, which is cheaper and I have never used: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147161 Edit: Rosewill Throne is on sale: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147220 So is Enthoo Pro: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854018

MB: Asus FM2 RAM: (forgot the brand) 4GB DDR3 HD: Toshiba 500 GB SATA Processor: A10 5800k APU Generally I want to upgrade the graphics even if the GPU in the APU will be unused. Any comments? Mostly used for Dota 2, Football Manager, CSGO but i'd want it to play recent games too

I checked r9 380, it's x2 of my budget for gpu but i can swallow the cost if its worth it, id prefer a cheaper alternative though. I played some games and framerates were dropping in higher resolutions (witcher 2, mordheim).

I played some games and framerates were dropping in higher resolutions (witcher 2, mordheim). can't check all the benchmark at the moment, but from rough estimation and own experience (or friend's), R9 380 can run dota2 max setting no problem, witcher 3 at medium-high setting. Worth it or not? I can't say, because it depends a lot on how much does the gpu cost mean to you, how long do you plan to use the system before next upgrade, etc, but R9 380 can last you for quite some time, as you are likely to run into CPU bottleneck for some titles, even dropping graphic setting down to medium/low. Again, CPU bottleneck is likely, but still a guesstimate, you can try finding benchmark online. Someone here with more knowledge will be more helpful regarding CPU parts. As for alternative, within my own recent research, you can consider GTX 960, GTX 950 at the very least. May be R7 370, edit2: too sleepy and stupid to read benchmark now. Will try again tomorrow, or better yet some other suggestions may come before that from someone else. Sorry edit3: update here

I'm not really comfortable when it hovers around 80-82c and vcore at 1.32ish.. I had another blackscreen+audiostutter crash earlier which could be related but that's scary since I just spent money replacing what I thought was broken.. Edit: Seems to mostly be an issue with Warhammer: End Times -- Vermintide which uses 100% of all 8 cores.. But so does the stress tests and those are much lower.. Strange..

As of 2 days ago however, it refuses to boot. It displays the same behavior, when pushing the power button the lights and fans (case fan, cpu fan and GPU fans) will spin for a 1 second then reboot. This has been going on for 2 days with no successful boot. If I take the GPU out, the PC boots perfectly. This seems to me like the GPU might be dead? If there was a problem with the PCI port presumably some kind of warning would be displayed. Is there a good way to test the GPU ? My plan right now would be to order a new GPU ( and upgrade from a 750ti to a 960 at the same time) I only have one PCIE slot and only one computer to test in.

The issue would go away after a couple minutes. As of 2 days ago however, it refuses to boot. Step one - Unplug everything, re-seat all connections. If your CPU has an onboard GPU, you could test it by just removing the PCIe GPU. When you tell me that you built this for going on a plane, I am immediately concerned about the normal rough handling that goes on with air travel.

Went over everything, making sure all connections were tight. PC works perfectly when GPU is taken out and using the onboard GPU instead. As soon as I plug it back in it won't boot. When I bring it with me on a plane I always bring it in my carry on sports bag surrounded by soft clothes. I know it's a risk but it worked pretty well so far

Alright, the APU 5800K is apparently quite old (sorry I don't keep myself updated with AMD CPU), and even a 750Ti should totally beat it, like may be double the performance. So, your upgrade path - in term of increasing performance, and of course increasing price - is 750Ti < GTX950 (~20%^ better than 750Ti) < GTX960~R9 380 (~15%^ or more). So look up the price and see what fit your budget. For actual FPS number, check out here, all the GPUs in consideration are there, and they even have Dota2 benchmark T__T. So, as for if a GPU is worth it or not, honestly I don't follow AMD CPU enough, but seem like your CPU will bottleneck sooner or later, and you probably will feel the need to upgrade to new CPU soon, depending on your budget and your tolerance running game at low fps. A GTX960- R9 380 will last you probably 2-3 years at least, playing light games like dota2 at max setting, or newest heavyweight like fallout4 at medium/low setting, still better than nothing. Those 2 cards can fit well into your potential CPU upgrade as well. The 750Ti is the cheapest among the bunch, but in 1-1.5years time when you upgrade your CPU, 750Ti may not cut it anymore. So the more expensive card is a better investment. However future-proofing is something not to overdo. edit: I actually went to consider upgrading to Broadwell for both CPU+iGPU performance. But while CPU performance is good, the iGPU performance increment is not significant to justify the huge cost. so nevermind that T_T

I'm looking to build a second computer and you guys were a great deal of help last time, so I thought I'd run it by you again. Thanks a lot in advance! It's mostly for my wife but I might want to use it myself to test some games. What is your budget? Around €1000. What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920x1080 What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? Mostly Civ, Anno series, Banished, SCII, Overwatch. But I'd also like it to run games like Witcher well. What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Compiling code, movies on a large screen. Do you intend to overclock? Yes. Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No, but I'd like to have the option if needed. Do you need an operating system? Yes. Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? Not part of the budget. Will eventually want to go up to a three monitor setup. If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. No. What country will you be buying your parts in? Belgium (just arrived here). If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. I've been told to check www.tones.be Here's what I put together myself, but if you think some parts don't match, the price is unreasonable or I've gone overboard, do please let me know.
