maybe u mean game devs don't utilise the modern hardware or maybe people are just used to 60fps whereas i'm living in a 30fps world also i dont think i can consider running at 92 degrees to be properly functional :D but i guess it wouldnt be that bad if i had better cooling

The laptop silicon is literally just the desktop stuff with a lower power limit slapped on though, Intel only makes one die. You could expect at least 75% of that performance in every way, probably even a bit more. ~~ and you seem to have some pretty big cooling issues with CPU. Maybe you just have terrible case airflow and are cooking it ![]() do you have more than one case fan? or maybe people are just used to 60fps whereas i'm living in a 30fps world 60fps has an annoying amount of input lag + motion blur and doesn't look particularly smooth 30 is well beyond the point of being no fun to play ![]()

On the E8400 3.5 should be possible even with stock Intel cooler, perhaps something is misconfigured causing the excess heat http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/intel_core_2_duo_e8400_overclocking_guide,2.html at the end of the day, you'd expect a 8400 clocked at 4.0 ghz to give the same performance on dual threaded tasks as the modern consoles @cyro, it depends more on manufacturers being willing to throw the iris pro processors properly in ultrabooks, but I'd love to have something like a surface or zenbook that can also handle low level gaming

Enough to be a big influence on CPU temps while running gpu load for an extended period of time @cyro, it depends more on manufacturers being willing to throw the iris pro processors properly in ultrabooks They're -always- gone to laptops before desktops. This is the first time Intel actually gave us one on desktop. ULTRABOOKS, quad core with iris pro, good clock speeds and unrestrictive power limit? Probably not gonna happen - regular laptop, sure. Those CPU's look like they can shine with 45-65w but would be choked to death with 15-25w.

would a game crash/quit due to insufficient voltage? yes, just run stock for now tbh

Specifically I want to get a bigger desk and get two monitors. I could probably continue using my current monitor (Dell S2240M) as a secondary. I would love to get a 4K primary monitor, but not really that picky. If I were to get a 4K monitor I would almost certainly need a graphics card upgrade as well. I may get a secondary storage drive or a larger SSD (currently using 256 GB SSD, around 60% capacity) but I think I will hold out on upgrading the processor and RAM until the next generation of Intel processors.... So here's the stats right now: CPU: i3-4130T 2.9 GHz Motherboard: ASRock H81M Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB RAM: Corsair XMS 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 SSD: A-Data Premier Pro SP600 256GB 2.5" Power: EVGA 500W 80+ Monitor: Dell S2240M 60Hz 21.5" Case: Rosewill Line-M MicroATX Mini Tower Case Keyboard: Das Keyboard (Reds) looking to upgrade the bolded above-but as I mentioned I would just add a second monitor. Any recommendations? I would say my budget is in the range of $400-$500, although the entire setup when I built it last year was less than 800 (all the parts listed). I do believe the most expensive part was the keyboard at $140. Everything else was cheap or part of a bundle deal averaging around $80 per item. I specifically want an NVIDIA card, and as for monitors I know very little. I would like to maintain 60 FPS for DotA 2 and some older games (particularly if a newer monitor has a higher resolution), but aside from that I really just watch streams, occasionally program (some Android dev recently) and watch movies/T.V.

any improvement in the Intel GPU performance is irrelevant since I'm getting a dedicated GPU anyway You're missing the bigger picture there if the iGPU is now faster than an M370x.

You don't even know what you're missing out on. Smoothness aside, lower input lag and motion blur is a whole new world

oh twitcher has motion blur (environment blurs when you move camera) + blur (i probably have this on) yeah im guessing "motion blur" in twitcher is just to make peoples eyes water
