Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my pc in order to stream and play SC2/DOTA/(hopefully overwatch when it comes out! :D). What do you suggest for a computer ranging from 650-950 range? I can probably figure out how to build one if needed.

I've read through this thread at work today and all I see is gibberish. It's been awhile since I've been in the market for a new pc.

Thanks alot guys !

What parts do you have right now? none?

I can't really answer PSU+installation costs, aside from them not being that hard to install. It's just a matter of fitting it in and then plugging the right wires into right places and usually has an instruction manual etc. I don't know how prices are in belgium or what someone would charge to do that though

yea, you should be able to compare maybe. If not, maybe measure? I usually just refer to the case information on whatever manufacturer website, but that sounds like it could be difficult for a random case on a prebuilt system

2gb 960 is better performance per euro. The comparable card to that is the r9 280, which is a bit stronger and similar price, even has 3GB of VRAM but it uses more power (more heat etc). That's probably overall a better buy for a lot of people.

Paying the extra money to double up on VRAM on a card is usually bad - it allows you to raise settings like texture quality, but it doesn't actually improve FPS. The extra cost for the memory is usually quite a lot, so it's often better to just buy a stronger card that has more VRAM in the stock configuration anyway if 2GB isn't enough for you (like a 3.5GB 970)

Cyro, thanks again for your quick answer! Means a lot to me!

I think i'm going for this one:
http://www.ldlc.be/fiche/PB00182003.html

Dimension is 267x139mm, my 550ti is 188x112mm. Doesn't mean much but i looked at my case and it seems it would be an ok fit. Not sure you can help me on this one. It's 120 watt tough, not sure what to think about it? What do you think, thanks again!

I have an old version of an ibuypower desktop I bought as is from years ago. Only thing worth salvaging would be the hard drives, the graphics card (Nvidia geforce 650 ti boost) and the tower... maybe. The rest of the components are outdated by about 4 years.

None the less, I'm looking for something that could stream and play sc2 at the same time without the absurd lag I get now. Been too long since I've been in the market for a computer

What CPU are you using now, for reference? That way there's some idea of the performance change that you could get from which newer hardware etc

That GPU should probably be ok, particularly if you're going to low/med settings. You could even use NVENC on it with OBS set up properly to stream with very low performance impact, you could try that even before making any upgrades

My video card went total kaput last night, tearing artifacts on screen from bootup, post to o/s load. So I'm in need of a replacement. Can anyone recommend a card in around 100-130 euro range?

My old one was a Sparkle GTX 560ti 1GB. Other sys specs i5-2500K @ 3.3 Ghz (stock), 8gigs of ram, PSU is a 550.

I was looking at a r7 260x with 2 gigs of vram, could get it for ~120 euro, but is there anything better for my price range?

I finally pulled the trigger and bought my new rig after I was delayed by unfortunate expenses. Just wanted to come back and thank you guys for your help.

I went with a MSI 970, MSI gaming 3 mobo, i54690k, I only went with 1600RAM to save a bit, 8Gigs, got a good deal on a samsung evo 250G SSD. Got a sick case with a window Everything is black and red and I love it. Thanks again guys.

Oh and i bought the 24" benq 144hz monitor and a nice new keyboard too. in total it was ~$2k

Ok so my current Rig is really old. Like really old. I think I havent upgraded it since 2008( which was a big mistake cause back then I could have still afford it). The biggest problem for me now is my financial situation. So maybe someone can help me choosing parts. Please keep it simple because I looked a bit on the Internet and it seems that the market has changed drasticlly over the years. I can´t look through the jungle of parts.
One important note: It has to be a low budget Rig that is still better than my current.

First my current PC.I haven´t build it myself but a guy that does this privately. Please also judge this build: (you can also suggest if I can upgrade any parts which I highly doubt cause all the parts are so ancient):

OS: Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit SP 3
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
RAM: 2.00 Dual Channel DDR2 @ 334Mhz (5-5-5-15)
Motherboard: ELITEGROUP COMPUTER SYSTEM CO., LTD. NFORCE6M-A (Socket AM2)
Graphicscard: 1024 MBNVIDIA Geforce GT 240 (Zotac International)

I hope this is enough information. Now for the Template to make it easier for you guys:+ Show Spoiler +

What is your budget?
Around 300- 400€. Less would even be better.

What is your monitor's native resolution?

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
Starcraft 2, Payday 2, Serious Sam 3, several old games but not any new games.

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
Just surfing, Muisc, basiclly the usual Media stuff you do besides gaming.

Do you intend to overclock?
No.

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No.

Do you need an operating system?
Yes.

Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?
No for both. I got all peripherals I need.

If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.
Im a bit unsure about this. See below *

What country will you be buying your parts in?
Germany.

If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.
No
.
* So about the brand references. Currently as you can see Im using AMD for CPU and was always satisfied with this. For GFX I always did go for NVIDIA. I heard AMD/ATI and Radeon would be better than Intel/NVDIA from Price/Performance ratio. I would go with AMD/ATI and Radeon since this is supposed to be a Low budget build. It would be nice if you guys could tell me more about the different brands and if the price/performance ratio thing is true.
Allso how do I check my Monitors native resolution?

I hope this is enough information for you guys to make something out of this. I desperately need something new/better but money is really holding me back.

AMD is largely competing based on performance/dollar because they have a low research and development budget compared to intel and nvidia right now

CPU side is pretty good for multithreaded performance at a given price point, depending on your uses that can make them the best option (especially since they allow for overclocking the fx6300, while Intel only allows overclocking on the pentium g3258 and 4690k/4790k of current gen) but that CPU architecture has bad singlethreaded performance, so it can't run stuff like sc2 as well. For that reason even with a 50 euro CPU it'd probably end up as Intel if you care about sc2 performance mainly. They're releasing an entirely new CPU architecture next year, but have not been refreshing their older CPU's so there's a lot of 2012 tech in the lineup.

GPU side, they have some good stuff especially since they price it low - but they're falling behind on technology, even worse because they've made a bunch of advancements but just don't seem to have the money to refresh their GPU lineup with new releases using the developments that they've made. It looks like they'll be rebranding their rebranded GPU's again and using the same GPU's (with 2012-2013 version of gcn) into 2016. There's probably still a card with better FPS/euro at the low end, though.

Maybe an APU would suit you (like a 7850k?)

You can see monitors native resolution by right clicking on the bare desktop and clicking something else, for me it just says "screen resolution" (windows 7). You can also see it in the GPU driver

something like this maybe, though it has SSD (bit more costly than HDD and less storage space) and room to save money on PSU, case and mobo

Thanks for taking your time to help me. This was quite informative. What about a Graphicscard suggestion or is there one onboard? I would also rather go with a HDD. But I liked your suggestions cause this was mainly to look how cheap a new PC would be, that is still better than my current one, while still being better.
Any words on my current Rig? Is there something bottlenecking or any other problems besides being really old?

What is your budget?
$800-1000

What is your monitor's native resolution?
Currently 1366 x 768, but I might upgrade to 1920 x 1080 in the near future.

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
I want to be able to play WoW on a reasonable setting (currently playing with render distance near min... not really optimal). Also Assassin's Creed.

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
Occationally image editing in Illustrator/PS.

Do you intend to overclock?
No

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No

Do you need an operating system?
Yes

Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?
I might need a new monitor later, but not as a part of this budget.

If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.
A SSD card would be nice, but not a requirement. I dont have any preferences regarding video card.

What country will you be buying your parts in?
Denmark

If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.
No

Thank you guys in advance

Everything is just old, nothing to re-use really.

That build above could save like 10 euro on PSU, i like that case but maybe some to be saved there, particularly if you want a smaller sized and cheaper case. The mobo could be ~20 euro cheaper too.

It's an APU, it has onboard graphics that are not awful. It couldn't be classified as anything else but low end, though the CPU side of it is alright for low budget and a graphics card could be added to it in the future. If not using that part, maybe you would use i3 and something like a 750 or 260x graphics card

Thanks once again . It helped me getting a better perspective on the current market since Im somewhat behind with knowledge on modern computers. I can´t say for sure if I will be buying these parts because of my financial situation but I will let you know when I get a new PC or maybe plan on building a better Rig than the suggested one in the near or distant future.
