Thanks, just trying to narrow my criteria. So 970m seems the way to go. Probably gonna order from xotic or mythlogic as I don't trust MSI build quality.

Be careful the model you get from a vendor like xoticpc or mythlogic. Some of them are MSI anyway. A large number may be Clevo (Sager), which usually isn't regarded any better with respect to build quality, especially now that MSI has some models with better build quality than many in the past.

Which case is better?

The recommendations has this listed: NZXT H440 but I'm also looking up on logical increments and this one looks nice as well: NZXT Phantom 630

Any list is just a couple of suggestions, and general case recommendations don't cover every model out there. If you want something else and it's not really bad (the H630 is not really bad), then go for it.

The H630 is a slightly older model, more expensive and more open (less restriction on air and noise passing in and out). It also actually have 5.25" bays, if you use those. The feature lists should be fairly self-explanatory.

Ah. Is there anyway to see how old a model it? Just in the market for a new case because the Arc Midi I got seems like an older model. The rear fan died on me for a bit but now works ok (only on high). So I have it facing me now so I know if it dies again.

There's only two Arc Midi variants. The R2 has a logo on the front while the original does not.

Typically, the date of the first review you can find on it, or check first listing of price on camelcamelcamel. It's not actually old. By the way, NZXT's modern cases have a numbering scheme where the tens digit indicates the ones digit of the year of release—H630 in 2013 and H440 in 2014.

There's an Arc Midi R2 now, but I don't really see much of an upgrade there. What are you even looking for? Fans that work properly? Almost everybody's included case fans are kind of meh. Just replace the fans.

edit: hm, that's another interpretation of that statement I didn't think of. But I think mine's the intended one.

haha. yeah fans that work....I guess I could go into replacing the fan...but I don't mind getting a new case if its cheap. looking for when BF sales hit or CM. I guess my major thing is a good case with good airflow for a room that currently has shit for air flow..no windows..

looking for one that has good air flow for a place like that more or less.

I currently have the Arc Midi R2 irrc. the rear fan dies on me can;t replace anymore.. (as in warrently over)

All fans on Arc Midi R2 is user replaceable. Just buy a new fan, remove old fan, install new fan.

Hey guys.
I posted here awhile back, I made some changes to the build.

CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 $90
Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 $85
Memory: Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $70
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 3GB WINDFORCE $200
PSU: Rosewill Capstone 450W $55
Case: Cooler Master Casing ATX N400 $50
HDD: WD Green 3TB $110

Looks good?
The GPU need one 6-pin and one 8-pin, and PSU has 2 x 6+2pin connector means it's fine right?
Can you recommend me a 250gb SSD? And how do I use HDD from my old PC, do I just plug it in?
Can I fit 2 HDD and 1 SSD in my build?
Should i drop the SSD and get a gtx 970 instead?

Yea
yea
I usually check crucial/samsung prices first, mx100 is often a good choice. There are some to avoid like the kingston v300. Yea, you can just plug in HDD AFAIK.
Don't see why not
That's a personal choice, because a 970 would be something like 1.6-1.7x stronger with similar power consumption/heat output. Having a 256GB SSD or a GPU that much stronger is a huge change to a build. I would consider getting a 970 with a 64GB ssd, but just take the 970 and add a 128-256GB SSD later if i had to, 64GB is very small for an ssd

Okay so I have the computer I built earlier this year with the help of this topic and it's amazing but I want to go further. My main activity is eve online multiboxing which I would assume is very processor and multitasking heavy, eve online is unlike many other games in that it's not unusual to play it with yourself due to the way it scales. I'm currently running 20 or so characters but would like to maybe add another 10-15 to that.

I saved my dxdiag as text which is spoilered below, hopefully that contains the useful information you need.

My thoughts are to pick up some more RAM and a newer graphics card than my Radeon 6670 on Cyber Monday. Would that help or am I bottlenecked elsewhere? If it would help, what should I look to be buying?

Are you maxing your RAM before FPS becomes an issue?

Just run however many clients like you would normally and open the task manager performance tab, look at CPU usage for each core and how much memory is "Available" (not free! available is way higher than free sometimes)

Hi TL!

You guys seem to do a wonderful job helping people who just like to play but are not that much into tech things so here I come with my build upgrade

Current build:

Case: Antec Performance One P183
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D-E PRO
GPU: Club 3D Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB Overclocked Edition
Corsair TX850W
Processor: Intel Core i7 860 (2.8Ghz)
Kingston ValueRAM (3x 2Go) DDR3 1333 MHz
No SSD

Resolution: 1920x1080

Want to upgrade to play next year's RPG pretty much Be sure to run Witcher 3 with comfortable settings, run 2016 games. My idea was to change GPU, go to 8G RAM and get a SSD but maybe there's something more clever I could do? I also have no idea what exact components I could get.

Budget? Hum… 500-700€ top.

I'll be buying from France, no preferred retailer but I'll probably use LDLC if I can.

Thanks for your help!

Start with this card, destroy of all 1080p worlds at a very good price: http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00174305.html

That processor is pretty old but I don't believe that Witcher 3 is CPU bound game. So you could do that graphics card with an SSD perhaps. This one for example: http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00167943.html

Another 2 Gb of RAM isn't that expensive I guess so I think you can just put a stick like this in: http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00089465.html

Then again if you're not running into trouble with 6 gb of RAM maybe you're fine with just that.

I would, in your place, probably hold off upgrading the CPU until I really needed to. As long as you aren't playing CPU bound games I think you should be OK.

The motherboard is relatively expensive and overbuilt. If the processor is not overclocked, you could spend some time doing a basic overclock and test on it, getting it to say 3.6 GHz or so. No need to tweak every last setting and spend a lot of time getting 0.1-0.3 GHz more and using a lot more power unless that interests you. That would require an aftermarket CPU cooler (say a Thermalright Macho for around 50 euros for something that does well and is nice), but that is a lot cheaper than getting a new motherboard and processor, and a cooler can be used in future builds too.

Overclocking on that board is probably similar to the Deluxe version here (just the static turbo boost is fine):

My cpu keeps overheating. I don't understand why. The only game I play on this machine is SC2. When I play on Ultra settings, the game freezes during big fights. Here are my specs:

I7 4770
Asus Z97-A
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660
16 Gig Ram
LQ 320 Liquid cooling
Corsair 650 PSU
+3 extra system fans

Can anyone help? Thanks.

What are those "overheating" temperatures you are seeing exactly?

Did you make sure to check this out at default settings everywhere, no overclocking and no auto-overclock feature or anything like that enabled?

The CPU cooler might be broken or installed incorrectly, for example pump not running (because broken or because not plugged into a fan header) or the contact between CPU and cooler is bad.

88+ degrees celcius. Well the CPU cooler light does come on and it does feel cool, so hopefully that means it's working. I haven't done any overclocking. In fact, I've tried turning all the fans onto turbo speed.

The CPU cooler feeling cool while the CPU is hot is actually bad. It means the heat does not get moved away from the CPU and into the cooler.

Do you think I need to get another one? Before when I had the stock fan for the CPU the machine wouldn't even turn on. Now with this CPU cooling the computer at least works.

maybe you need to resit your heatsink

re-apply thermal paste and resit your heatsink and see if that helps.

it's also possible that your cpu cooler's pump is broken i suppose
