Its really helpful to people like me who have little to no experience in PC building and no clue whatsoever where to start. I've done some research over the past week and am building a rig based off the High-End Gamer build. My main dilemma here is picking out a MOBO. Based on my research and I could be wrong (most likely), the boards I've listed have very minimal differences in performance and the choice is based on personal preference. Can someone please verify and give me some tips on whether I should just pick the cheapest option ? Any thoughts or recommendations anyone has and I'm all ears. I'm building the PC in Malaysia and prices are from https://forum.lowyat.net/ Processor (CPU) – Intel Core i5-4670K (RM 768) Motherboard – GIGABYTE G1.Sniper Z87 (RM 550) / MSI Z87-G45 Gaming (RM 559) / ASROCK Z87 Extreme 4 (RM520) / GIGABYTE GA-Z87-D3HP (RM 489) / ASUS Z87-K (RM 520) Memory (RAM) – G.Skill RIPJAWS F3-2133C9D-8GXL (2X4GB) DDR3 2133 MHz (RM 319) Video Card (GPU) – ASUS R9 280X Direct CU II Top (RM 1299) / Sapphire R9 280X Toxic (RM 1299) / ASUS GTX770 Direct CU II OC (RM 1499) Primary Storage – Samsung 840 EVO 250GB (RM 309) Secondary Storage – Western Digital 500 MB Blue (RM 160) Power Supply (PSU) – Super Flower Golden Green HX500M (RM 255) Heatsink – Noctua NH-D14 (RM 280) / Noctua NH-U12S (RM 279) / Thermalright Archon SB-E X2 (RM 255) Case – NZXT Phantom 410 (RM 325) / Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (RM 370) NH-D14 fits fine in the Phantom 410 btw.

However I don't think it could hurt to basically double your storage for $5. At very least, it's giving me the option to start downloading in the future if I ever want to. To each his own obviously, though I felt it wouldn't be a bad idea to point out that buying 1 or 2 Tb HDDs is generally more cost-efficient.

Capture some raw or lossless video? Takes up a lot of space fast.

Some people value extra storage more than a few dollars and some people value a few extra dollars more than storage.

Speaking of storage size, I guess Incognoto does have a great point there but I already have a 1 TB external HDD that i hardly use. But again adding a few extra dollars doesnt hurt right Thanks guys for your help, you guys have been amazing ! I'll start sourcing the parts and let you guys know how everything goes ! I just checked your RAM. The GSkills RIPJAWS might not fit if you're using the NH-D14. You're going to want something that doesn't have the fins on top. You might want something like this: http://products.ncix.com/detail/kingston-khx1600c9d3b1k2-8gx-8gb-kit-2x4gb-53-70136-1253.htm

Just thinking out loud really. I guess RAM which has its voltage raised (to clock higher) would probably heat up a bit, but I don't think it would be enough to ever come close to actually damaging the RAM (as long as we stay within reasonable voltage).

The voltage itself is usually more of a problem than the temperature. But yeah, both are bad. Generally you'd need pretty hardcore abuse of them to warrant more special cooling. Server ECC Ram is not running at high voltages, but they're usually bare, if that tells you anything. (and take a look at the cost of those kits and how much heatspreaders would cost extra) Yes, CPU VRM MOSFETs on those server boards and other parts are heatsinked. Just not the RAM because it's RAM and doesn't usually need the extra help.

Soundwise - a little louder at 12v, but I can't hear the fans at 5 or 7v. Good choice, guys, thanks.

a) one graphics card with 2 DVI-D ports (didn't find one yet) b) buy two graphic cards and use SLI/Crossfire. Currently I own a Radeon 7770 (from XFX) which has 2 DVI-I, 1 HDMI and one DisplayPort connections. Do I really need to buy new a graphics card or is there a good solution with my existing setup? Hope you guys are able to find something...every time I search for a graphics card with 2 DVI-D ports I can only find really old discussions from 2012, maybe I missed something?

You would just need a passive DVI to DP adapter if your second DVI port is not dual link. Passive adapters do not add any input lag. If you are looking to buy a new card. You are looking for a card with two dual link DVI ports, not DVI-D. Most of the newer cards such as the GTX 760, R9 270x, etc all have two dual-link DVI.

Sammy RAM runs fine @1.6v bare, i imagine even a basic headspreader with no fins would do fine up to as high as you'd really want to run 24/7 on imc (~1.75v) though people rarely run RAM that high; RAM overclocking is more of a niche than cpu/gpu clocking, a lot of people mess it up and few go past like ~1.5-1.65v for fear of intel spec warnings that don't mean anything really
