Finally got everything reformatted and organized with all my drives, everything reinstalled and working beautifully (with Win 8 now) and my PC boots up in 11 seconds :D Everything is so fucking fast and snappy it's unbelievable. Amazing isn't it? I often turn off my computer just because I know that I can turn it on again in less time than it takes to sit back down. @Myrmidon: yeah that confirms my research.

I don't believe at all that it'll be that price when it actually launches. £120 is somewhat plausible, but it's so much of a loss in CPU power when you can't save money on mobo or cooling (4670k being ~£52 more), and there's nothing better on fm2+; it's kinda worrying to see amd fine with dropping to compete against the i3 instead of mainstream i5/i7. 3 module, 384gcn die would have been better but it seems everything (or most stuff? I didn't check) is the same die, just at different clocks and with parts disabled, and that die has only 2 steamroller modules For locked CPU oc on intel, previously you could adjust the turbo bins upwards (sandy/ivy), but it was locked down on Haswell. You can OC with base clock which sometimes works out ok, but it causes numerous issues for me even going up a few percent, i can't really get systemwide stability at 102 base clock OR at the 125 strap or at least could not on f6 bios (which is dissapointing; and others have seen the same)

There's a huge variety of laptops out there at different prices and that are good (err, less bad, depending on perspective) at different things, so who knows how you're going to use it? (not us, clearly) i.e. run what programs, use on the go or not, etc. Practically it's a balance of price, size, weight, battery life, noise, temperatures, different applications performance including games (some can be relatively good at some and not at others), expandability, build quality, display quality, input quality, etc... Sony Vaio refers to a whole huge line of Sony PC products since the 90s. That's not very specific.

I prefer laptop's fans and battery to be good because it will be open at least 5 hours for a day. Model of the Sony Vaio i liked: SONY SVF1521JSTB NVIDIA GT740M 2GB INTEL i5 3337U RAM 8GB 15.5 inch I also liked a HP laptop but all of my friends said dont buy hp because its getting warm too fastly.

So here is what I got using the resources in this thread and chip.de. Case: Corsair Carbide 200R Mainboard: Gigabyte Z87X-D3H CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K GPU: MSI R9 270X HAWK 2048MB DDR5 HDD: Western Digital WD10EZEX Blue 1TB RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2x4) PSU: Corsair CX Series 600W That's 785,26 euros total on Amazon (I'm sure it can be a bit cheaper if we compare prices with other sites). Maybe the Thermalright True Spirit 140 could/should be added, but you can always get it later if you ever want to OC right? On the other hand it's just 40 euros. I'm also not sure about the PSU. So any advice on what to improve or what's bad/doesn't make sense would be appreciated! Thanks.

I myself am also quite the amateur but I tried to come up with a system around 800 euros. He mainly plays Dota2 but we want to play DayZ and maybe some shooters like BF3 together in the future. He just doesn't want to have to worry when buying a new game. So here is what I got using the resources in this thread and chip.de. GPU - 270 >should< be better performance/euro than 270x, they're very close in performance, only slightly weaker but can be a lot cheaper - i see a bunch at 155-165 euro, while the card you linked is 200. PSU - Swap out cx600w for a Superflower Golden Green 450w. Better unit, way better efficiency, no concerns for running out of wattage on it, also same or similar price. your RAM, cpu, mobo choice looks pretty decent. Case - I don't like that one. It probably does not >really< matter - but as an example of decent airflow, i'd try to get more than one front intake if possible, as well as at least the exhaust fan on back. CPU cooler - my preference would be hr-02 macho. Buy it now and OC (can help a bit if you want) or don't buy it and cut down on mobo etc for new OC build - don't fall into "maybe i'll oc later" trap :D

Plus swap out the PSU. Much appreciated!

Well 740m is the best amongs them. Then they're not made for gaming. 720m and 710m are hilariously bad, integrated graphics is extremely extremely suboptimal on a tdp limited laptop CPU (even one that's not low power) and the 740m.. is a mess There's two different chips that are called 740m, there's also ddr3 and gddr5 versions - it's a big mess and i don't even have any idea how to reccomend anything with it or for performance specifics etc; so for a gaming system i'd definately say hit two goals: Non low power CPU (no U in the name) and a 750m, if you're buying a 700-series GPU. That would probably make the system more bulky though, at least maybe a basic 15" shell - not really sure there. If somebody told me to pick between a 740m (without very very detailed specs) and integrated graphics on an i5-3xxxU cpu though, i would laugh i3/i5/i7 4xxx instead of 3xxx has significantly improved idle power; if you want to do stuff on desktop, word documents, play videos, skype, whatever, it'll help battery life a lot. On my desktop i find something ridiculous like 80% of the time is spent at very low idle power states for Haswell cpu, but it's much more important on laptop where battery life is limited HP or brands etc; i don't know so much about them. Most of my focus is on the higher end half of desktop systems, as well as random picked up info along the way

Much appreciated! ![]() Actually another tip if you're still reading; maybe a golden green 650 would be more suited to allow for a second r9 270 down the road. This is 82 euro at hardwareversand (i checked one site) which is 22 euro more than the 450. I was going to say 550, but that's a tighter fit for power budget with two cards and CPU and all OC'd, and 650 doesn't cost much more. This puts higher emphasis on case airflow for cooling, if you want it as an option in the future, too - but it's a decent upgrade option.

Ok, that's reasonable. 20 euro sounds good to be safe in the future . Thanks again, it's nice to know at what to look at when optimizing the build.Edit: Does this card make more sense performance/euro wise? http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/2048MB-Asus-Radeon-R9-270-DirectCU-II-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_941848.html or even this http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/2048MB-Sapphire-Radeon-R9-270-OC-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Full-Retail-_941850.html
