What are you looking for? Single GPU or SLI / Crossfire?
That's an old unit and is rated for maximum power rather than continuous so... quality is questionable.
And 1 year warranty, that's a joke right? lol
|
Single GPU for sure, possibly overclocking a CPU next fall (Haswell Refresh is when I plan to upgrade mobo/cpu). I just want a cheap PSU that works, noise and efficiency aren't a concern.
As long as it doesn't blow up lol.
|
It's not 80 plus because it's a really old model without APFC. (Even if it hits the efficiency targets... which is possible I guess, that's an automatic disqualifier.)
Some SolidGear are Powmax, which are really really bad. Don't know about that.
I'd rather have one of those Corsair CX430 after rebates easily. In general you want to buy the thing with protection circuitry that probably actually works and maybe a design that doesn't necessarily fry things when things go south... all other factors aside.
|
Just get a CX430 than? I think NCIX had a refurbished Corsair HX for like dirt cheap too.
|
Argh! the gpu I was going to get is sold out and now im $30 under from using a code I got to knock $50 off
So I guess I'll go with a different GPU...
Sold out one
Which of these 3 is better? ignoring price unless it really means anything
1 2 3

Well it would be a wattage thing. But of course I guess I can't get it if it doesn't have decent protection.
Would an R9 280x and Haswell overclocked (probably on air or cheap water, nothing insane) need more than 430w? 500? 600?

You'd be fine on a 430, maybe riding high with high oc on cpu+gpu with simultaneous load on something power hungry.
I think 430 for all but high end single GPU + haswell quad is fine - of them, 280x would be highest power consumption.
~550w for 290/290x/780/whatevergk110 single GPU and haswell, if you're looking to push stuff a bit.
|
Most single GPU setups never exceed 400w or even come close to exceeding it. But with the CX430, you'd have to use an adapter which are pita.
If you don't care about warranty, just get the refurbished Corsair unit from NCIX. I'd link it but their hamster is dead.

Well you'd obviously want a 4GB model if you're ignoring price. I don't know the difference between the two Gigabytes but I'd just take the higher clocked model.

is there a problem with it not being SLI Support ready? or is that assumed

Ok thanks for the help, I think I'll grab a a Capstone 450w from Newegg (I was considering grabbing one earlier). Not needing an adapter is my main reason, and it'll be nice having a good, quiet PSU.
I take it ncix server crashes every black friday?

All GTX 770 are SLI ready. Just because it's not in the name doesn't mean it doesn't support SLI.
