Hello,
I have an issue with my microphone (line in) volume being to low. I have to yell into my microphone to get sound to be recorded. My sound card is a ASUS Xonar Essence STX. I believe that the problem lies with the sound card as my usb webcam microphone picks up volume great.
So far I have tried the following to fix my problem:
- Reinstalled drivers - Removed and reconnect the cables going to the sound card including power cable - Messed with all the settings, microphone boost is on max - Tried various microphones (current microphone is a Behringer XM8500) - Moved the microphone closer
I am lost on what to try next. The volume works great to the headphones, just the line in is weak.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

It could be a hardware problem at some end. Have you tried using your mic on a different system or a different mic on your system to figure out where the problem is ?

I've had a similar issue. I've looked on google a lot mostly to find out that a lot of people seem to have random occurances of their windows generally not picking up any sound at a decent volume. I even have a blue snowball and the sound I get from that through USB is pretty pathetic. Skype seems to have some sort of auto levelling with regards to the volume so I can get away with it. However, if I try to speak to anyone in Vent, HoN or use recording software to record music, it just can't be worked with.
I used a 3rd party driver for my Xonar DG but that caused frequent bluescreens.
My next thing to do will be, when I next reinstall windows; remove sound card beforehand and reinser/install the soundcard last.
I know this probably doesn't help, Just sharing my experience on the issue.
