If you've tried clearing out the drivers and reinstalling a different version but you still have the problem, the root cause is probably a graphics hardware failure. That can occasionally be a seating or power problem, but as far as I can tell, manufacturers don't test the cards properly before they ship them, so the fault rate is horrible.

Apperently(If I understand this correctly) we need to change something in the registry which I would not dare touch on my own. Alright dude I think I'll experiment with it and get back to you. EDIT: On March 11 2012 11:53 jaj22 wrote: I'll explain. Because video drivers and hardware are so damn unreliable, versions of Windows from Vista onwards have a mechanism (called TDR) to detect when a video driver has stopped responding and reinitialise it. The vast majority of the time, it does this correctly, which means that the root cause of these errors is a video driver bug or graphics hardware failure. Don't bother changing the registry parameters. Thanks for the response - this happened on both my 5770 hd and my 6850 hd though. I hope I didn't get 2 bad GPUs or something but I guess I'll try more with the drivers.

A scratch reinstall might be productive there. Alright I'll try a reinstall soon if nothing works. -- Just got a hang, but MSI afterburner actually didn't record my GPU being at 100% usage at the time of the hang like it normally does. I'm getting this serious vibe that it doesn't have anything to do with the GPU. If I wanted to check if all the connections were tightened, are there any key places I should be looking? I'm going to crack open my system to take another look.

I did a complete reinstall, and switched out some of my RAM and everything seems to be fixed! Reinstalled graphics drivers after that, and everythings been running really smooth ![]() Thanks to everyone for your help, hopefully this thread can help anyone else who had these problems!

Well Let Me Explain My Own Scenario. USED TO HAVE AN ASUS 6850. IT'S PCIE 2, USES 2x 6 PINS. WORKS NICE. OC UP TO 950/1150. TEMP MAX~80. PSU 585W ------ CPU 6CORE OCed to 4.0 GHz ----- RAM 16 Gb 1600 ---- MOBO M5A97 RECENTLY I BOUGHT A SPARE/STOCK/SECOND HAND/ WHATEVER THEY SAY!! VTX3D 6850 FROM A GUY. IT TAKES 1X 6PINS. POWERED IT BY MEANS OF A 2x MOLEX TO 6 PINS CONVERTER.IT WAS AT STOCK. 775/1000..) OK NOW AT STOCK VOLT IT COULD REACH 800/1050. NO GPU TOOL COULD CHANGE ITS VOLTAGE AT ALL. AT STOCK VOLT <ANY> MORE THAN 800/1050 COULD RESULT IN DRIVER CRASH AND RECOVERY AFTER A FEW SECONDS OR MINUTES. SO I MANAGED TO DOWNLOAD AND FLASH A VTX3D 6870 BIOS ON IT. THE VOLT CAME UP TO 1.172. CLOCKS AT 900/1050. NO DOUBT THAT THESE SETTINGS DEFINITELY COULD CAUSE THE SAME DRIVER ISSUE, FREEZING, JUMPING OUT OF GAME OR DIRECTX ERROR BOX, RIGHT AFTER A SHORT TIME IN ANY GPU LOADING GAME. SO I HAD TO DOWNCLOCK IT 830/1050 TO MAKE IT STABLE. BUT THIS IS SO STRANGE, BECAUSE I KNEW IT SHOULD BE MUCH MORE THAN THAT AT SUCH VOLTAGE. SEARCHED AND TRIED SO MANY THINGS LIKE DRIVER REFRESHING, TDR DELAY, AND SO, NOTHING WORKED. SOLUTION SO WHILE PLAYING A FULL SCREEN GAME (BECAUSE OF CROSSFIRE) I OPENED THE GPU-Z AND SAW THAT ONE OF GPU TEMPS OF MY FAULTY new CARD IS HITTING 110 c AND IT WOULD GO EVEN 130 c AND THEN DRIVER ISSUE WOULD HAPPEN!!! . (IN MY CASE GPU TEMP # 2) . SO I PULLED IT OUT OF CHASSIS . TOOK THE HEAT SINK APART FROM BOARD AND COMPLETELY WASHED HEATSINK, CLEANED THE FAN, CLEANED WHATEVER LEFT FROM OLD THERMAL GREASE, AND USED SOME NEW GREASE. AND NOW IT IS WORKING AT 920/1100 WITH NO OVERHEAT (MAX~80 c), OR DRIVER ISSUE OR FREEZE OR CRASH OR ANYTHING. GOOD LUCK User was banned for this post.
