Never played a game where I've needed both the mouse and the arrow keys so o.O

Very nice.

Why did you go for a compact keyboard if I may ask?

just wanted to try something new but the main reason i got this keyboard was for the f keys

Makes sense, good choice. Hope to see you in some big tourneys again

You don't have to be an accountant for the tenkeys to be useful. Many engineering, math or programming jobs have great use for the tenkeys if you are doing a lot of calculations or whatever.

Perhaps you need a numpad ...... if you need to write numbers?

Yes, but its far easier with a numpad?

I was saying that rather than trying to make a list of professions that need full size boards perhaps we could just settle on fullsize keyboards being useful for people that have to type numbers often.

Hi TL!

Hope you guys can help me choosing my future keyboard, I'll try to be as specific as possible on what I'm looking for.

So basically, I used to have a Logitech G15 that I didn't like. I then changed for a Razer Arctosa that I still own and don't like either. I feel like a mechanical keyboard would better suit my need so here I am.

The first important thing is that I absolutely need a French layout for my keyboard. I looked on what's available in France and those are pretty much the only 4 keyboards I could find:

- Corsair K60
- Razer BlackWidow
- Steelseries 6gv2
- Zowie Celeritas

For the types of switches, I have no idea. The guide linked in the OP mention for pretty much each type that some people love them, some people hate them so nothing I can conclude based on that. And unfortunately, none of my friends own a mechanical keyboard so I have no way to try. My gut instinct is telling me brown switches because I'd like to both type and play but that's a bit light to make a decision.

As for the look, I prefer sober keyboards so all 4 of them are fine except maybe the Razer one with the surface that gets dirty too quickly.

Other misc details: the corsair one seems to be out of stock and I don't want to wait 3 months so that could rule out this one; money is not an issue, i don't mind paying 120 bucks if it's for a keyboard that suits me and last for a while.

Soooooo maybe between Zowie and Steelseries? I don't know... Any opinion that could help me make a choice?

First read this and try to figure out which rings the bell? As it's pretty important. Funnily enough you have 4 keyboards with different switches there so you can just choose a switch and you got the keyboard you want.

(Though Flash trolls with Celeritas and that's pretty sweet:

Yeah, I've read that but it's like :
- Black: good for gaming, not for typing. OK, seems fine.
- Brown: descent for both. OK, seems fine.
- Blue: good for typing. Some people don't like it for gaming, some do.
- Red: seems to be good for both, maybe more for gaming but some people hate it.

I mean, that doesn't help a lot As for the description of the feelings when using it, I don't know, it's just so hard to decide without trying (which I cannot do).

Blue seems to be the less likely to suit me and given the fact that I'm not hugely satisfied of my Razer keyboard right now, I'm probably not going to take the BlackWidow. Corsair doesn't seem to be available right now and I'm planning to get the keyboard as some sort of present for myself for Christmas.

I'm gonna look for more detailed review of the Steelseries and Zowie but if more people have experience with them (or other keyboards I mentioned) especially for RTS, that would help

Who hates red? o.O I haven't heard of anyone complain about red, most people have it at the top but still prefer one of the more specilized switches, but hating it? I thought that was the switch that's the least-hated out of them all. Maybe brown as well. Blue and black have the obvious flaws - blue is noisy with more difficult doubletaps, black is exhausting

Btw here you can order this nice keyboard to France with a French keyboard layout and you can also choose any switches you like.

Hi guys!
I'm looking for a keyboard but I don't know anything about them. I just want a good quality keyboard which isn't that expensive and doesn't wake peoples up at night (make TO MUCH sound). Ever since I've started playing I have been playing with the integrated keys on my MSI laptop. So which keyboards do you guys recommend?

I just bought the Rosewill MX cherry red, and I must say that I love it a lot. It's a great keyboard for anyone that don't want it to be too noisy.

It's available on newegg.

I've owned both the Steelseries 6gV2 and the Zowie Celeritas, and if I had to choose between the two for RTS I think it would have to be the Zowie. The keys are much easier to press down than the Steelseries and the keyboard performs extremely well if your computer had a PS/2 input. however there are some aesthetic differences between the two. The Zowie doesn't have feet on the back meaning it cannot be raised so it can only be played in the flat position. The Steelseries doesn't have raising feet either, however, the keyboard is constructed in a raised position. The main difference between the Steelseries and the Zowie are the switches. If you don't like stiff keys, then the Steelseries may not be for you. Overall, I feel that the Zowie is easier to play with overall.

As you said, some people like to play games with blues, but personally I dislike then for gaming as it takes longer to double tap on a blue switch keyboard than it would on other types of mechanical switches. They are also loud as fuck, which might annoy either you or the people around you.

I would just go for the brown zowie or some other keyboard with brown switches, like a rosewill or something.

Hope this helped a little.

Hi,

You can get a Filco Majestouch 2 from TheKeyboardCompany or PureGaming.fr, they both ship to France, and with all fees included it will cost you around 150 euros.

I ordered a Masjestouch 2 Tenkeyless with MX Brown in French layout on TheKeyboardCo (because PureGaming doesn't have the TKL version in stock) and it's absolutely fantastic (I was coming from rubber-dome keyboards too). You can choose them with Black, Blue or Brown switches (Red versions exist, but they're much more difficult to find in Europe, and I don't think they exist in French Layout).

But as others said, you need to choose your type of switch first. I was the same as you, had no idea what to choose and no possibility to try them, but I eventually went for MX Brown. I think they clearly are the more polyvalent switches, with a really light tactile feel mid-course. The red seems to be pretty great for gaming-only, but I still prefer to have a tactile feedback to know exactly when the switch has activated.

I wouldn't advise you to take the Blue or Black without trying them first though, as they seem to be way too much "extreme". You hate them or you love them, but I didn't see many people being just okay with them.

I know the Filco is a bit more expensive than the other models, but from what I've read it's the one that feels the best. Also, many pros use Filco, even if it doesn't mean much.

If you like simple, minimalistic designs, like me, then you can't go wrong with a Filco. I don't have a pic of mine, but it's exactly the same but in ISO layout (which is the european universal layout, same as French with the big Enter key, but with no markings) :

Hope you'll find a keyboard that fits you

Someone hating red? That's a first, perhaps the person finds them too easy to actuate, which leads to unwanted keypresses. As for blacks being exhausting - I switched from membrane keyboard to black switches and they don't feel exhausting at all, I'm able to keep my normal typing pace for as long as before, etc. Probably just a matter of altered perception by people who've used other types of switches beforehand =)

Atleast my Zowie is constructed in raised position o.O so that for example Z is little lower than S and W is a little higher than S from the ground or if u look from the side.
