Just because it's laser etched doesn't mean you won't feel it either.

Yes, but the white lettering from this keyboard is really ridiculous. I could not have imagined this being a possible problem, because I never saw a keyboard with this problem before. On some keys it really is nearly as noticeable as typical key markers for F, J and numpad-5.

Hey guys, I'm really torn between the Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate EU and the Cherry G80-3000LSCGB.

I was wondering if there any real differences in build quality/functionality. Because really, I cannot see that much of a difference in terms of key lastablilty and key click sound.

The Das will feel heavier and more solid since it is plate-mounted (i.e., the key switches are soldered to the metal plate at the bottom of the keyboard, as opposed to the Cherry's switches which are attached to its flexible circuit board). PCB-mounted boards can bow inward a little if you press on them with a lot of force. Plate-mounted boards will not flex at all.

If you care about modding the key switches, plate-mounted boards are more difficult to work with.

How is the second hand value of a good mechanical board? Lets say I get a Filco Majestouch and wants to sell it after lets say 1 year, how much if anything can I expect to get out of the original value? Assuming it's still in decent condition.

I might add that you can only get a Filco by ordering through the keyboard company in sweden (from GB) so the availability of a new one isn't too great. Personally I wouldn't buy a used one but I'm a bit curious if there is a market for it.

Hey everyone, I am considering buying a QPAD MK-80 because it seems like a well made board and i especially like the wrist/palm rest attached to it. So i would like to ask if anyone here has experience with it and if you would recommend it to me. I watched a few Youtube reviews but would like more longterm personal opinions before i spend 140 euros on it.

So I've never had a mechanical keyboard and I'm still using a Fujitsu Siemens keyboard, which I've used for quite some times (Can't even remember how many years xd).

I have although experienced some issues with fatigue in the hands/fingers when i play SC2 for a longer period of time. I'm really interested in getting a mechanical keyboard but I really don't know what's good. (Brown switches good for this?)

I guess i would love a keyboard that wouldn't leave my fingers as fatigued. I use my computer mostly for SC2 and homework so i would like to have it designed for both playing and typing .

And I'm interested in ''underlights'' on the keyboard to since i often have a hard time seeing the buttons in evenings/nights.

Tips on what to get would be GREATLY appreciated ^^.

Sounds like the Razer Black Widow Ultimate would be the keyboard for you. Ticks everybox.

As regards to switches, I'm not that knowledgeable with them, but the general consensus is that brown and blue are the 'best' for gaming and typing boards. They also make a lovely sound with minimal pressure to hit the keys - which will help with your fatigue.
The Black Widow uses the Cherry Blue switches I do believe, which are by far the loudest key switch, and thus considered the most satisfying.

I've read that the ''blue'' switches are best for typing though, and i don't really care about the clicking sound . Just want it to feel good. The keyboard looks good but it seems to have ''to much'' stuff on it. I mean i would never use the macro keys anyway ^^. It basicly seems to expensive. Thanks for the tip anyway :D

I'd suggest you instead learn to touch type rather than wasting 50 bucks on fancy back lighting, but I guess that's up to you if you want to pay for an overpieced piece of junk like Black Widow Ultimate.

I know how to type well enough thanks, never seen a keyboard with underlights but it seems like a good enough addition. It is by no means a must so if you have any tips on a good keyboard for a good price I'm all ears

Well, in Europe the options aren't so numerous. These are quality blues:

These quality browns:

Yeah this is super cheap:

Yeah that seems really cheap, if it comes in black I'm interested :D

I do not like the key cap labeling on my black Cherry G80-3000. It is painted on thick, and you can feel the labels. I find it pretty annoying that the key caps do not feel smooth because of that. For some keys this is also much worse than for others. For example, on my "W" key, the labeling can be felt nearly as good as that dot on the "5" of the number-key-pad. The labels also start to lose their whiteness with time, and will start to look darker on more used keys. If I ever buy another G80-3000, I will choose a white keyboard, because for white key caps the labels are lasered on, I think.

That however doesn't sound as good . Hmm guess I'll continue searching for a while.

Does anyone know someplace/store where you could actually test the feel of some mechanical keyboards. I really want to feel the keyboard before i buy it ^^. And no1 i know has a mechanical keyboard xd

Thats not guaranteed. filcos lost alot of value after 6g and blackwidow came to the market. A year from now there will be alot more mechanical keyboard manufacturers.

I popped into the Fry's in Concord, California this morning on my way to work and found a couple of mechanical keyboards on display. They had a Razer Anansi with Cherry blue switches and a nameless SIIG board with clicky white Alps switches. Fry's is definitely worth a shot if you want to physically try out a mechanical before you buy. I've heard that they have had black switch keyboards out on display too.

Alps switches haven't gotten a lot of attention on this thread, but they're really nice and have a different feel than Cherries. I'm typing on blue Alps right now, and I love the crisp, clicky feel. Similar to Cherry blues but, well, crisper. Each stroke feels like I'm shattering Chex cereal or something. Really a pleasure to type on. The white Alps at Fry's felt similar, and perhaps even crispier. Very clicky, but not as sharp (and annoying, some would say) as Cherry blues.

im ordering a das should i get a blue or brown switch? I really like the blue switch but coming from a black switch keyboard I have a habit of double tapping without having to release the switch ( any1 using a black switch knows what im talking about). I heard Blues jam and don't register if you dont release the switch. Brown switch Seems to be used the most in rts gaming but i read alot of comments with people saying its too soft/ mushy and the feel isn't as good as the blues. Over all the only reason I'm buying the keyboard is to get better at starcraft. My apm is limited by my black switch becasue I constantly get tired and the linear nature of the keyboard restricts the time between every click. can someone who used both tell me how both of these affected their sc2?

you can't compare a filco to a a decent product and a shitty product.

It's true that blues are harder to double tap on than blacks and browns. I have all three switch types with me now, and I tried repeatedly actuating each without fully releasing the key. With browns and blacks (and reds) it was easy. With the blues it was harder to do (though still pretty easy) and more error prone. As you mentioned, they can feel like they're "jamming" such that you have to fully depress a key to activate it again.

All this aside, you don't need to double tap in Starcraft. When I spam on my blue switches, I fully press and release each time without issue. But if you're married to double tapping, blues will probably frustrate you.

And as I said a couple posts back, check out Fry's if there's one in your area. They might have a blue switch board out on display (though you'd have to sneak in a laptop or something to get a real sense of how they double tap).

Well it was likely the BlackWidow then. Looks like it has macro keys on the left, like I'm remembering. I must have read the wrong sign.

Point is, you can try blue switches (and white Alps) at Fry's.

Too bad they stopped carrying the G6v2 and the 7g those were great to test out while they had them. If your gonna get a mech keyboard at frys make it a blackwidow, I don't nessecarily like the black widow but it is a more reliable board and has a better layout than the siig. Siig keys are wobbly and overall aren't that great for everyday typing.

Ok, hi

Is there a good reliable mechanical keyboard that has cherry mx browns and multimedia keys while having keycaps that can be swapped out with the wasdkeyboards.com custom caps?

Thanks

can't you program multimedia into the macro keys of black widow stealth?
