so im building in around 1-2 months. set on most parts but i have a question about cases.
how much difference does the sound dampening make? thing is my current one is damn effin loud with a oooold case(and ooold casefans beeing damn noisy) and a ph II 955 stock cooler that sounds like a starting jet. and i dont want it to be anything like that again.
i cant quite imagine how a new system in a new case sounds like and if i really need a silent case(currently would be lookin at fractal r3 or antec 280).
/edit err shouldve gone in build ressource thread. stupid tabs

I'm not sure. The sound dampening helps, but probably the benefits are mostly from not having lots of holes in the sides of the chassis and thicker panels. Sometimes (probably not for the P280 because of the negative pressure design) this can additionally help with ensuring that air only comes in through spots with dust filters, so GPU/CPU fans and heatsinks accumulate less dust so they don't need to work as hard.
The louder the internals themselves, the more important the dampening is. If you have a typical gaming chassis filled with only high-quality fans running at low speeds and SSDs/quiet hard drives, that can be very quiet too.

hey guys,
how can i contact a TL admin if i want to know, whether i'm allowed to start a special thread or not?
sorry if tech support is the wrong section to ask this, but out of all existing "simple question simple answer"-threads it seemed to suit the most^^
|
Wrong place, but generally the best way to contact an admin is either through the contact us link, a PM, or IRC.
|
well, had i EVER scrolled down the entire page, i'd have seen the "contact us" link... "doh"

So I was doing some stuff on my old comp with XP (needed it for burning some stuff to cds).
Booted, installed imgburn, turned it off.
Now when trying to boot I get harddrive configuration error. The hard drive shows up fine in BIOS though.
Anyone know what is going on?
Edit: Tried making a usb-boot with acronis, but the computer reboots while loading :o Edit2: Computer reboots exactly when acronis has loaded, whether hd is inserted or not :/
Edit3: Problem fixed! Dunno what did it though :o (gosh, I wish I could blame it on alcohol...)

Short answer: yes.
Long answer:
- the Cooler Master PSU - is it the Silent Pro M? (RS-500-AMBA-D3) Asking because if it's any other of their low-end units, it's probably bad quality (though some of their other "D3" units made by Enhance are OK). If it's not, where are you buying from? usually there are better choices than that. Also you could get away with a 400W unit for such a system. (if you can link a website or mention any Antec/Corsair/XFX/SeaSonic/Silverstone/OCZ power supply of a similar price, we could suggest something better)
- the HD 6750 is a fairly weak mid-range card, but if your resolution isn't too high and/or you're primarily interested in just Starcraft 2 gaming, it's a good choice.

thank you here's a couple of links,

Mexican sites, 1 USD ≈ 12.7 MXN
Maybe i could afford a better video card, like the GTX550 Ti or a HD6770? thank you again

Anyone know the release dates for the 7950 drivers?

Wow, I feel so sorry for you! The selection of PSU's is terrible, and so are the prices!
The lowest-priced unit that I'd buy from either of those 2 lists is the Corsair CX500 V2. The sub-1000 CoolerMaster units are all terrible. Even if they would "work" since your system isn't going to load them that high, they're more likely to die early, damage components, and at the very least they waste way more power because of low efficiency....
I don't know if that leaves any room in your budget for the graphics card. What's your resolution anyway? It's up to you if you want to spend more to upgrade that as well.

My mouse just started being weird today. Normally pressing down on the scroll wheel as a click when hovering over a link will open it in a new tab, but for some reason I'm getting no response today. It's a simple Logitech wireless mouse, says M215 on the bottom, so I'm guessing that's the model.

Obvious question that needs answered: does the middle mouse button function work for everything else it used to? And if so, what was changed today?
|
As far as I'm concerned, auto-tabbing was the only thing I used it for, and I don't believe anything was changed. The computer itself might have updated on its own, but I doubt it has anything to do with the mouse, it's not like it was dropped or anything.

You let your PC update on it's own? Eww. Try unplugging the mouse, rebooting, and plugging it in again.

HEY-OH EDIT: Actually, I just remembered the other function of the scroll wheel click, it lets me scroll by holding it down and dragging the cursor. Which it just did. Along with all of it's normal functions. Guess it decided to work now. GG MOUSE
Wireless mouse still has the other side thingy that has to be plugged in.
And plugging/unplugging that is what will detect and load appropriate drivers.

Oh, you meant the stump. Sometimes I forget that it's even there. Sorry about that.

I just tested my computer on a "can you run it" website. It said I well surpassed the recommendation for skyrim, yet when I even try to play on medium settings, my computer completely crashes. Anything I can do to fix this?
