I use a Windows 7 Home OS.
How can I get my computer to have a dual screen display where I can use the TV as a secondary display and monitor as the primary display with regular windows?

When the mouse reconnects, my entire PC locks up for a split second. It seems like something is interrupting my CPU/USB whatever cycles etc I'm not going to pretend I know how that really works. Nothing is really jumping out at me in the event viewer. I've tried different USB ports, updated mouse software, tried different polling rates, etc. Not seeing any updated USB drivers for my mobo. Any ideas? | ||

Try to change something in the power management settings of the Windows power profile that's currently enabled for you. There's options for PCI and for USB and you might want to disable the power saving stuff for both. Did you always have those issues or was everything fine originally? You might have changed something around the time it started happening, or Windows might have done something by itself through Windows Update. Somewhere in the Control Panel, you can get to a screen where you see all recently installed updates. You can find it with the search box as "view installed updates" or something. The Control Panel screen where you can uninstall normal programs also shows the date of when stuff was installed. You can sort all views by date. | ||

I have Nvidia Videocard P.S Fps is good Double check that you're playing in fullscreen mode, and that vsync is disabled for the game delay can come from quite a few areas, but some of the most common ones are the vsynced desktop environment on windows 7 (without basic themes) and from what i hear, windows 8 that you can't disable (not sure on that one) If it's not that (they can't affect you playing in fullscreen mode, only windowed and windowed fullscreen) then some other issue, likely vsync set on for the game, or something like "maximum pre-rendered frames" in nvidia 3d settings being too high | ||

--- Has anyone ever built a custom NAS? I've been looking into just making my own running e.g. FreeNAS OS with some simple parts, but it's hard to track down what kind of parts you need. What I've generally read is that ZFS needs a minimum of 1GB RAM per TB of HDD space, so I'm aiming around 16GB of RAM (2x8GB probably). As for CPU, I'm not really sure if it makes sense to use AMD or Intel (or if it even matters) and whether to go single or dual core. It seems like single core might be better since I'm not planning to do anything like e.g. data-deduping (i.e. I don't think I'll be doing anything processor intensive). The most I might do is run the Plex plugin in a jail, but if that doesn't work I can just keep the plex server on my desktop and have it read over the network (wired). I was thinking something like this guy would be good (AMD Sempron 145 Sargas Single-Core 2.8Ghz). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103888 There's some dual cores for Intel around the same clock and price point, but I don't really know how I'd go about comparing the two for something so niche. Supposedly a lot of the FreeNAS bits I'd be using (and maybe ZFS in general) are pretty single-threaded. AMD dual core at same price as single core: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113367 Intel dual core at $10 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117301 And for giggles, another AMD at $5 more. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113330 I haven't looked into this extensively yet to see if they'll all have integrated graphics on matching motherboards, but that's a big factor. It's going to run mostly headless, but I need simple graphics to get it set up and there's no point getting a GPU. A motherboard that supports ECC RAM might be nice, but I'm not sure which sockets/whatever do. Doing some simple text searches on Newegg seem to indicate that ECC supporting mobos are in the $150 range, which is more than I think I'm looking to put down for just the mobo. | ||

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157414 but you need a CPU that supports it too (recall the memory controller being on die). That means a server/workstation-grade product like a Xeon, Opteron, or some such. Actually, I just checked prices on Avoton (Atom-based server processor) boards, and those don't really seem like a cheaper option. | ||

About Intel, it might work without Xeon E3. This $60 LGA1150 dual-core CPU is mentioned as having ECC: http://ark.intel.com/products/77773/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3220-3M-Cache-3_00-GH Here's the memory compatibility list for that board Myrmidon mentioned: http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=H87WS-DL#Memory QVL So it might really work without one of those $200+ SuperMicro boards? EDIT: Just now seen that this G1840 you mentioned also has ECC: http://ark.intel.com/products/80800/Intel-Celeron-Processor-G1840-2M-Cache-2_80-GHz | ||

Oh, I guess it's just the Core i5s and i7s without ECC support. And Sandy Bridge Core i3s didn't have ECC support listed, but Ivy Bridge and Broadwell do? I guess Intel tweaks their feature support lists from generation to generation. | ||
