You check the label, read the model number, and look it up. Or ask here, because looking it up will likely result in some misleading information. Ah, thanks for the help, I'll look for the label. It should be on the inside right? It should be inside the case, on the outside of the power supply. Under no circumstances should you attempt to open your power supply. Alright, thanks. Just opened it up and saw it. It says DC Output 300W. That'll probably help me out for if I want something on my current ancient one, but I'll probably save up and buy a new power supply and video card when I get a job. What kind of Power Supply should I be looking at if I want to use a really good video card? That's not a model number. Look for a model number. And unless you're doing something crazy, a good quality 450w unit is plenty. PS-5301-08HA
With the new comp, I plan on doing the works. Gaming, video editing, streaming, etc.

Replace it. When you're planning to buy, ask for specific suggestions, since sales bounce all over the place.

Thanks for all the help, that's probably not much else to answer right now.

That PSU comes up as a LiteOn model. Gonna need to be replaced for sure.

Do most streamers use the mic on their webcam or headset?

Neither. The good streamers use a standalone microphone that resides either on their desktop or on a boom that sits next to their chair.
As for everyone else, use whatever.

Is there any way to set the idle temperature on a GPU higher than normal? I live in Arizona and the A/C is set to about 85, and when its that warm my graphics card is always really loud (usually about 50% with no load on it). When I set the fan to 20%, that fixes the sound issue (mostly), but it makes things get much more hot if I watch a stream or open a game. Also, whether the fan is set to 50 or 20 doesn't change the idle temp from about 40C (only about 10 degrees over ambient).

Well you kind of answered your own question...? Higher the ambient temperature, the higher the idle temperature.
Anyway idle temperature isn't really a concern. The main concern are load temps.

I just installed sc2 for the first time on my new laptop. When I open starcraft it starts to patch and quickly reaches 50% done but then the patch window disappears and nothing else occurs. Does anyone have any advice for this?

Yeah, I'm looking for a way to set the fan's "ideal" temp up to a few degrees above idle. I got a fairly cheap HD6850 with a really loud fan, so I'd love to not hear the thing so loud all the time.

Is there any way to change the resolution on SC2 to something other then the ones available on the settings page in the game? I want to experiment with smaller sizes so I can see the minimap clearer

There's usually minimums set in the card BIOS. And that's not something most people monkey with.

I'm not sure if MSI Afterburner works with aftermarket cards (I suspect not) but MSI Afterburner might be able to do what you want.

does anyone know any programs to help optimize my newly built PC to get most performance out of it?

You should be able set a fan curve with a program like MSI Afterburner or EVGA precision X. This would allow you to have, say, 20% fan up to 60C then have the fan ramp up fairly quickly to 100% after that. From my experience, these programs should work with most (if not all) brands of graphic cards.

He wants a lower idle RPM, though, from what I saw. Usually that's a locked minimum value in the bios. The only way I know of to get around that without the potential to brick the GPU is to use a fan controller panel and a couple of 3 pin extensions between the card and the fan, so you can cut the fan and run it passive in idle, then just crank it back up to game.
Which, of course, still has the potential for mayhem if you forget, fuck up, or have small children who like knobs and buttons.

Really simple question here guys.
I recently got adblock (for Firefox) and in a noob moment I clicked onto a stream here on TeamLiquid. Everything was working fine until one day, I clicked "Block" located in the top right of the stream box. It's really small and hard to see. Anyway.... the stream turned off and I was only able to watch streams directly from the person(s) twitch.tv account rather than directly from TL. But now I can't watch anything, be it Youtube, streams on Twitch or whatever.
Would love to know what I did and how to resolve it. I've also tried going into AdBlock settings and disabling everything for TL but it didn't work.

I was wondering if it is possible to switch the OS so my new pc will have windows 7 and my dell laptop will have xp? Can I do that? Thanks
