i7 has hyperthreading, i5 does not. Hyperthreading is only useful for applications that are well multi-threaded (encoding, editing, etc).

Would I get more bang for my buck if I try to overclock my new PC (nothing extreme too with cooling tubes and shit though)? If so, will overclocking my computer lead to better performance in gaming? I want my new PC for gaming I don't do video editing or photoshop, complete newb here so any resources would be much apprecitated ![]() It's fairly easy nowadays. I built my own just by reading all the manuals. I'd advise getting a big computer case though, it's much easier to work with and helps with cooling. The only thing that's tricky is getting all the details right. Installing all the big parts (motherboard psu cpu gfx card hdds and dvd drive) is pretty easy. I spent the most time on getting all the cables to the front right. LEDs, reset button, power button, fan control etc. The manual wasn't too clear on those so had to try a bit there. It is more bang for your buck then a pre-made pc. Some processors and gfx cards are especially overclock friendly, I don't really know them myself except for the core i5 2500k which is absolutely amazing.

Are you upgrading DDR2 -> DDR3? Did you just buy a Q9550? (I hope not) are you just looking for a better motherboard than you already have (775 and DDR3) There's not a whole lot of selection left for 775 DDR3 motherboards. All the ones I can find are either really cheap (<$50) and probably not good for over clocking or way overpriced.

Case is Aresze Darkcoder 7203B. Looking at finding a budget case for new budget gaming comp (budget does mean radeon 6950 and the like). Thanks in advance Never heard of Aresze. based on my google search it's not an easy product to find. for budget cases I would recommend the antec 300 or cm HAF 912. I've found both of these for ~$60 CAD.

RAM speed past 1333 has negligible impact on gaming. But the expense is of course very real.

CPU: best price/performance CPU on the market, and best for gaming period. MB, good chipset, whether it's a good deal depends on what features you need and how expensive it is RAM: a waste, get some 1333 or 1600 with tight timings instead GFX: decent card, depends on price Case, whatever you like the looks of, as long as it has good air flow. PSU: antec PSUs are pretty good, not the very best in efficiency or cost but they won't explode on you if you try to pull the rated wattage, other good brands are seasonic and corsair. Monitor, no idea, read reviews elsewhere. How much were you looking to spend?
