I recently purchased a Razer DeathAdder 3500 DPI mouse. Having used them before on a friends computer, I found it to be an amazing mouse in terms of comfort and performance, but I feel like when using this mouse on my computer, I'm not getting the same results in terms of accuracy.

Things to note:

-Tried several mousepads, currently using a piece of black thick cardboard paper so it doesn't wrinkle, bend, or have issues with color
-Firmware and drivers are current, and the firmware mouse resolution setting is at 3500 DPI
-Polling rate 500Hz
-Windows mouse sensitivity is 6/11, SC2 mouse sensitivity is at 54%
-Enhanced pointer precision is off
-Screen resolution 1680x1050

It could just be that I need to practice more with it, but as I said, I have played with this mouse on my friends system, the only difference being he didn't have the latest firmware, and so I'm not sure if his firmware mouse resolution was set to 3500 or not, or if his polling rate was different.

edit: grammar
PS - I've now tried lowering the DPI to 1800 and will experiment a bit before updating

First off, make sure that the acceleration is also turned off in the firmware. When i installed the logitech software, there was inherent accel even though my windows settings had it off.

If thats fine, I would maybe look into adjusting the sensitivity. SC2 sensitivity is unrelated to the windows settings iirc but 54% on SC2 does indeed move around like 6/11 on windows. It is quite a high setting for 3500 DPI.

It might also just be differences in mousemats...there are plastic ones, cloth, metal....all kinds and of different glides. Maybe borrow his?

I have the razer death adder 3.5g and the razer abyssus 3.5g. No tracking issues with either one. I find that I have the best control on softmats and i use the Puretrak Talent. There's a pretty high lift off distance but after a while I have gotten used to it and the very large pad makes it so i rarely have to lift off my mouse anyways. I haven't had any tracking issues and I've had the razer for over a year and a half and the abyssus for a bit. I haven't had any accuracy problems, but perhaps your sensitivity is too high? I use 1800 dpi on both mice, windows 6/11 sens, default sens in drivers, 51% sens in sc2 - all on a 1920x1080 screen.

Also, disable mouse acceleration in windows and drivers. Use this http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1846538 to get rid of the mouse acceleration in windows 7. Also, when i used a hard pad, i felt like the mouse had acceleration, but it was just that the mouse moved too fast and I liked the control I had using a cloth mouse pad. Just follow the directions on the link i posted. Also, if you still feel like you have accuracy problems, just plug into a different USB port. And also, it could just be in your head. Lots of times it can be just you thinking it's inaccurate.

yea no tracking issues with mine either. You may want to return that one and get another one. Ive never heard of this problem with the 3500. I use a soft razer kabuto with mine and i play starcraft 2 ladder daily on it no issues.

I had teh same issue with my deathadder. I lowered the DPI to the next lowest setting and bumped up the sensitivity and it's now been my best mouse I have ever owned.

Use 1800 DPI, I've heard the DA has issues if you put it above that.

^ this.
your issue sounds really like you have either windwos or razer mouse acceleration enabled. this would make the movement feel strange and really not precice.
in addition i recomend setting sc2 mouse sensity to 50%.

Put windows sensitivity on the 6th notch.

For every half notch you put above 6, you lose half a pixel of accuracy per pixel travelled, so essentially 11/11 you will lose 2.5 pixels per pixel travelled, so essentially your computer skips every even pixel pretty much.

Essentially decreasing the extrapolation done by Windows, and increase hardware level sensitivity will fix it.

That or dust in sensor.

just curious ... I don't know what to set the sensitivity to in the Deathadder settings ? I have my windows 6/11 and my sc2 to 54 ?

when I completely close all deathadder programs in task manager I get a blue screen ... so right now my deathadder sensitiviy is set to 7 ... I'm guessing using this isnt optimal ?

edit: I seem to be getting better accuracy with 1800 DPI instead of 3500 and sensitivity to 10 ... but I am still not sure if this is true 1:1 yet or not

Uninstall Razer's firmware and delete any trace of it on your computer at all. Unless you need to reassign keys or need the thing button at the bottom, which honestly you should've bought another mouse if you needed those things. Absolutely unnecessary.

That should solve all problems.

If you still feel weird, then go buy a SteelSeries QcK mini for like 7 dollars. I recommend them over generic dollar store mousepads because they glide better. Or better yet borrow your friend's mousepad.

That eliminates the problem with the mousepad.

If you still have problems check with your friends mouse again. It's probably hardware and you can simply exchange it at the store for a new one.

I installed the Razer software and the mouse felt terrible, so I uninstalled it, restarted my computer, and it worked like a dream.

If you want more "specifics," I play with whatever the DeathAdder defaults as, the CSL mousefix, no Razer software other than the USB drivers, 1440x900 and 1280x1024 dual monitor, 6/11, and whatever Starcraft 2 defaults.

There's no need to ever tweak anything in a mouse. You will adjust to it after 30 days unless the sensor, mouse or software is broken. In the first case, you ignore the mouse. In the second case you exchange the mouse. In the third case, you don't install the software.

Or, ask your friend what he or she did with the mouse. Nothing? Then you shouldn't either. They're plug'n'play for a reason and unless you play in the 99th percentile of progaming Counter-Strike players, you don't need to tweak your mouse at all, and most of them don't either.
There is no one like you in the universe.

First of all check that your friend was not using mouse acceleration.

A lot of people buy deathadders, dont turn off mouse acceleration, and then think its awesome. (They are wrong however, any mouse with acceleration is the same as any other mouse with acceleration on) If you have never used a non-acceleration mouse before, it takes a few hours/days to get used to, and could be why you are uncomfortable.

Not necessarily, I use 1800 dpi on 1680x1050 and I have no problems at all. Dont take your own preferences as fact mate.

I use 1800dpi on 1366x768. Its fine. I like reaching the diagonal with one physical inch. Every person has their own sensitivity preferences.

I'm kind of interested since I'm a high sensitivity gamer and want to know why were the problems of the OP being caused by having the mouse at a higher dpi? Can anyone explain it to me :S??

Just remember that setting higher dpi doesn't make your mouse more accurate its just for setting more confortable speed especially for large screen users.

ok ... does anyone else have opinions on whether or not setting the accuracy in the deathadder program will still be true 1:1 with no pixel loss ?

Just test it with paint. Try drawing circles, see if you get unexplainable straight lines.

Best way to put your mind at ease about it.

i had accuracy issues too, my problem was the polling rate... i'm playing on osx, and somehow it is too stupid to adjust the usb polling rate to the one chosen in the settings, and if you play with 500 or 1000 Hz it's messed up (maybe only a solution for mac users..)

From another thread, keep in mind there are three settings for mouse sensitivity not just two

On August 24 2011 15:46 naolin wrote:
alright so there's 3 settings that will adjust your sensitivity and its kind of confusing in this thread which one people are referring to... First there's the Sensitivity settings in windows, then razor has 2 separate settings in it's driver interface, one is a general sensitivity, then there's an advanced sensitivity tab that also has a Windows pointer option...

so do you guys mean...

6/11 in WINDOWS
6/10 in Razor general sensitivity
6/10 in Razor Advanced sensitivity Windows Mouse Pointer

I'm trying that out right now but if i want it a little more sensitive not sure when one i should be adjusting.

The following poster already posted a pic of the three settings

I recently bought a death adder myself and was wondering about customization of sensitivty and true 1:1 and all of that. So far the mouse has been a dream other than learning curve, I'm coming from an mx518 I used for like 7 years... I was wondering if like you posted above its worth while to install Razer software. So far I've decided against it and I'm simply running windows 6/11, SC2 ~50% (cant remember exact number). Is this an oversight? Should I install razer drivers for max customization/performance?

when i went down to 900 DPI i found myself a lot more accurate, maybe it was way to used to my old mouse, but i guess you just have to find your own preferences.
