Hey guys, I'm having a few problems with Xsplit. I'd be all too happy to post about them in one of the existing threads (and boy are there tons), but my questions never get answered. Therefore, I've decided to create this thread for everyone. Let's consolidate our questions here with the Q1:, Q2:, and A1:, A2:, format.
I guess I'll start things off.
Q1:Why are my recorded VODs so choppy, and what can I do to let the video "flow" more smoothly? Below is a link to a short test clip, as well as my computer and it's configuration.
I know my computer is crappy, I'm surprised it streams/records as well. That said, I don't think I've put the resolution and quality settings too high. The only reason I raised them up to what they are now is because I had them lower before, but the videos were just as choppy. Otherwise, I would be willing to sacrifice quality for smoothness.

Oh...I meant to put this in Tech Support.

Well thanks for the help ^_^
Edit: That was freaking fast. Some mod is on the ball.

1. Thank you for posting relevant information, a lot of people seem to think we can read their computer's specs magically!
2. Post your upload speed/rate: if you don't know what it is, this can help: http://www.speedtest.net/
Right off the bat, I see your RAM and CPU are extremely weak. RAM especially being two gigs lower than what I'd typically would like to see.
What settings is your SC2 at?
|
I'm well aware that my computer, and internet sucks
That said, I'm trying to figure out settings I can change (not internet/hardware) in xsplit to improve things. I'm not going to buy anything just yet cause I'm going off to college next year; gonna spend the money on a brand new computer.
I play on low settings.
Download: 1.52 Mb/s Upload: 0.42 Mb/s
I hope college internet will be better

Your upload is too small. I'm surprised you can stream whatsoever. I don't even know if there is a solution to your problem as I've never dealt with such a small upload rate.
950 kbps is close to 1 mb. You're uploading your stream at double your upload rate.
At 0.42, you'd have to have your bitrate at like 200 or lower (I believe, rough number).
Does it lag when you play?
|
|
Are you ever livestreaming or simply only VODing?
In any case, try and lower your bitrate and see how it goes. Lower it big time~
|
set video bitrate to 350kbps, audio bitrate to 96000
|
I livestream and VOD. I guess I'll try changing it to 100 or 200? What adverse effects will it have?
Thanks for the help.

Your quality of your livestream will drop dramatically. 950 looks crisp, 650 looks decent, I've never been lower.
Guess you'll tell us what it's like :3

Turn audio down substantially, .5mbps upload is 62.5kb/s upload. (Mbps / 8 ) = Mb/s (megabit vs megabyte) I would recommend 12000 audio quality, and ramp up the video. Dropping to a 640x480 res will help substantially with quality. You only have 500 to go with, i would say 400 video, 25 audio, and the rest towards the game. You really need atleast 1.5mbit up to get any sort of decent streaming.
The reason why you are not lagging in game is because a router you have, or your modem has some sort of QOS engine running, it's prioritizing gaming traffic and therefore you do not lag and the stream does. as a previous poster said you are using over double your upload rate, this means that half the data is being skipped/buffered/ so it's lagging.

^ Wow that was very specific. Thank you!
