I just used my computer regularly, surfed a bit, watched a stream, when suddenly my mouse didn't work anymore. After unplugging it and plugging it back in it still didn't work, so I decided to restart my computer. When I did that, the following error message appeared: USB Device over current status detected! System will shut down in 15seconds. And that's exactly what my system did...
After doing some basic research on the net and a few tests I quickly figured out that the problem has to be with my mouse, contrary to what normally causes the "USB Device over current..." error. To clarify, my mouse doesn't work on my computer, and it doesn't work on my laptop either. Furthermore every other mouse I plug in at my computer works perfectly fine, no matter how many other USB devices I have attached. So the problem has to be my mouse, not my mainboard, my jumpers, my USB ports, etc.
Now I'm wondering... what happened to my mouse? o.O And how did it happen? How can a mouse just suddenly "die" like that? It looks like it's completely broken. Wherever I plug it in, it doesn't light up, isn't recognized by the OS, etc. Wtf?
I sincerely hope there are some tech geniuses on TL who can answer these questions for me... Never had such a thing happen to me before.
Edit: Btw. I have(or had...) a Razer Lachesis mouse. It worked perfectly fine before the incident apart from a few sudden "twitches" here and there, probably caused by very high DPI(4000) combined with dust on my mouse pad and/or me touching the cable with my feet.
