Have you used a g9x before and, in that case, how stiff is it in comparison?

1. Grip style
Mostly Fingertip or a mix between Fingertip/Claw, im not entirely sure. I have relatively long fingers and using small mice (like from Razer) make for a weird combination.

2. Sensitivity
1700-1900

3. Budget
Not fixed but lets start with *up to 70*

4. Additional buttons
Not necessary, I come from a Naga and I often used to click a button on the side by mistake. A couple more of them is fine but not more than 8-9 (total for the whole mouse)

5. Games
SC2, HOTS, EU4/CK2/HoI (Paradox grand strategy games), the occasional shooter, Diablo 2 and 3

7. Other relevant information
Absolutely no Razer hardware. Mostly because of their bad software (I have a Blackwidow and Synapse changes my Windows!?!?!?!? layout from US english to UK english).
Massive bonus points for on-board memory. It shouldnt store whole profiles, just the settings for the polling rate and CPI. I dont like depending on software and if I can avoid it I would be very happy.

I also want something with better switches than my current naga (Omron, rated for 10 Mil clicks). If its Omron (probably), at the very least I want 20M. Everything less is pure bs. My (classic) Naga switch under the left button got worn off just 2 years after purchasing it ( normal to moderate use at most). It makes micro doubleclicks. Im very disappointed by Razor's poor choice (Logitech and co have the same problem on some of their products).

Size: The Naga was fine, I got used to it. Slightly larger would be ideal. Im not sure if I want an ergonomic or ambidex. mouse.

I used the g9 (not g9x but I think stiffness between those two should be the same) and g303 is maybe a little less stiff, about the same. The buttons definitely feel better.

I have not used g9x because of inconsistent sensor

Razer Re-released the diamondhead which was huge among mouse geeks many years ago.

I haven't looked much into it, but it appears to have a absurd laser sensor which is more than a bit dissapointing

your mistake was hoping that razer would care about the performance of their hardware before gamer marketing BS

BUT IT HAS 16 000 DPI!!! It's over 9000 and stuff. Isn't the sensor decent though? I thought it would be the same than in their most recent mouse which name I forgot, and was supposed to have no accel.

if it didn't come from razer's official site it would look like somebody trying to make a joke.

Sensor might be ok. AFAIK there are still not laser sensors with as low speed-related tracking variance as the better optical ones, but i have no experience/knowledge with this one in particular i think

edit: Looks like PTE sensor.. so pick your poison i guess. Or just get a 3310/3366 mouse

I'd never buy a razer mouse again, I was just asking out of curiosity if someone asks me someday. Their software is just too crappy now, I'll stick to zowie or logitech.

I've been using a Logitech G9x for a little over 5 years now and it's been without a doubt the best mouse I've ever owned. Unfortunately, the scroll wheel just died and it seems as though I can't find a new one for anything less than $300 (ironically, I bought it to replace my old Logitech G5 because of a scroll wheel issue too). I really wish I knew why Logitech discontinued it since it seems like it's been hugely popular and positively received by almost everyone.

Looking at Logitech's website, it seems like the G502 is the spiritual successor to the G9x (specifically with the adjustable weights). However, in the last 10 pages or so of this thread, everyone's been talking about the G303 and the G502 has gotten almost no mention. Is there anyone here that's tried them both and could offer some insights between the two?

Biggest difference is size and weight. The 302/303 is more simmilar in that regard. Personally it seems like the 502 is too big and heavy to be a proper replacement.

If you're willing to open up the mouse there's someone who sells spare scrollwheels on ebay that fit. Ordered one myself when it seemed like mine was about to breakdown.

They released new mice of similar sizes with better sensors (in ways that actually matter)

I've got a g402 (pretty much same shell as 502) and a 303.

The 402/502 forces palm grip and doesn't really let you do much else. The 303 on the other hand is pretty much the opposite as the shape isn't easily palmable, yet it's ideal for claw grips and workable for fingertip.

I would consider g9x a fingertip/claw mouse (not palm) though i never used one

Thanks for the response. I hadn't realized how large the G502 is. Definitely seems the 303 is more in-line with the g9x in that regard (not to mention the simpler button set up)

Is anyone else here still a fan of the IME 3.0? I bought one from ebay brand new for ~$35 here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microsoft-Optical-IntelliMouse-Explorer-3-0-9000FPS-25G-54IPS-Optical-Mouse-/281692150940?hash=item4196291c9c

Been using it for several months and its still great. It only has 400 dpi but that's all you need for CSGO. It's cheaper than pretty much all the other gaming mice these days and doesn't have any of the useless buttons that just get in the way or make the mouse look ugly (I'm looking at you, Logitech). It also has a nice clean design instead of this gamer LED nonsense that makes you (or at least me) embarrassed to use the mouse in public. Frankly, the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that the mice companies are completely out of touch with what gamers (or at least what I) want. If I'm paying $40+ for a fucking mouse, I don't want 30 buttons or 4000 dpi. I just want a rock-solid mouse with the build quality to last for many years.
8/4/12 never forget, never forgive.

The new edition is actually 450 dpi. I still have mine and I tried to play with it, but the 125hz kinda sucks and makes continuous movements very jittery for me (I.E. while peeking corners). It's good enough to play with, but I'd rather get a rival for a few more dollars if I wanted a big palm mouse again, if only for the polling rate. But yeah, manufacturers going back to simpler designs and focusing on having a high performance product rather than a fancy 50k dpi rgb lit mouse would be cool.
