Kinda missing the side buttons for lazy surfing, but I can live without them. You might want to look into a simple addon for your browser that can do mouse gestures. One simple method is called "rocker gestures", you hold down the right mouse button and click on the left button to go back a page, and the reverse for going forward.

Is it really necessary to install the driver for Logitech G400S? If so, what is the optimal way to set cpi steps? I just heard someone talking about native cpi steps, and would like to hear the general strategy to configure a mouse with the driver. Thanks.

Sensor (Avago 3090) Does anyone have tried the mouse? I can change it without cost though.

No you don't need the software, but it doesn't hurt though. Just make sure you have the "Enhance pointer precision" labeled checkbox disabled in the windows mouse settings and as well have the pointer speed slider at 6/11. The optimal way to set the dpi steps is the one that you're the most comfortable with. I never switch dpi on the fly, although I still can't decide wether to use 750 or 1000 dpi on my G100s.

You should check out the overclock.net (search google with site:overclock.net cm storm) forums about the cm recon mouse, there a quite a few threads with people complaining about various issues with the mouse.

I don't have it anymore because it's so heavy and I found out I apparently like using a lighter mouse a lot better. Wasn't there different firmwares to choose from? You might want to try a different one. You can also tweak LOD settings in the driver, if I remember right. That might improve something for the sensor's ability to track well. I don't know what LOD setting I used, but it was probably on the lower side. I found this picture of how it performed for me: http://i.imgur.com/i3AYDak.png

Also, if I do make the switch: Are mousepads only a matter of preference? Is there a significant difference between soft and hard pads? Which one's better? Any recommendations? Thank you so much!

I only play BW and SC2. I did enjoy the Logitech MX series mice a great deal in the past, so the difference in size (compared to G500) won't matter to me that much. Also, if I do make the switch: Are mousepads only a matter of preference? Is there a significant difference between soft and hard pads? Which one's better? Any recommendations? Thank you so much! Sure, if you would like a symmetric mouse which can be used with every kind of grip, then give the g100s a go. Yes, they are only a matter of preference. I like the razer goliathus control the most, I've used the g100s with razer goliathus speed and control, zowie p-tf soft speed, zowie n-rf2 thin, steelseries 4hd, razer destructor 2 and the steelseries qck. The mouse works perfectly on all of them.
