Thx in advance. ![]() That's what I thought, I've read about the squeky stuff etc as well, but I don't care if I can fix it easily by mself. And the mouse is absolutely worth it. About the weight: ![]() This is attached to the upper part of the mouse for legacy reasons I think, removing it is a matter of one screw and a few seconds, easy. It basically has Abyssus weight now, which means it's very light. All of my favourite mouses have flaws, but with the g100s all can be fixed in a matter of seconds. The mico has a buggy sensor (jumps from time to time, confirmed by Zowie) and only 450/800 dpi usable (1600 is interpolated). The g9x has some sensor flaws on certain type of pads and is a wee bit too heavy for my liking. The Abyssus is awesome except for the glossy sides (no fucking idea who came up with that bullshit) which is really a killer for me.

Yeah, apply some WD40 inbetween them and you're fine. My room mates g100s buttons stopped squeaking after about 2 weeks eventually (without any wd40). Imho the best symmetrical mouse when when it comes to surface material, shape, weight, sensor and switches. ![]()

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a mouse to last for more than 4 years, especially one so expensive. Could someone recommend a mouse or a brand or two that has a good reputation for long-lasting build quality?

It's a shame because I've absolutely loved the Logitech mice otherwise. Is poor scroll wheel quality something that should be expected with Logitech mice, is it something that all brands struggle with, or have I just gotten unlucky? To be honest, 4 years is an unexpectedly long time for a mouse to last, even a more expensive one, unless it's one of the old Microsoft mice (WMO, IMO). In terms of build quality, you cant get much better than Logitech and Steelseries.

Everything else about the G5 and G9x has been super solid and reliable, and to have that one persistent flaw felt like a build quality issue. But I guess if that's at the high end for the life expectancy of a gaming mouse, I can't really complain. Maybe I'll try a different brand that can break in new and exciting ways next time!

I toss mine in a backpack daily and bring it to work, with a pair of headphones and occasionally a Leopold keyboard, no issues in more than a year. Like I said, there was only one that "broke". The point where the shell makes contact with the switch had worn to the point where it didn't make contact unless I pressed really hard. There's probably some quick fix but I figured it would be easier to just get another one.

The shell and the clicker lost contact and it would hardly register mouseclicks anymore. Was pretty rage inducing.

Is there any simple solution to get rid of the squeak? I see people mentioning WD40 for buttons, but is that a good idea for the wheel? I can see it going very wrong. I had that in my MiCO when I first got it too; it seems to be pretty common. I ignored it and it went away after about 3 weeks. I've been using it since summer of 2012 and it hasn't re-appeared yet. You could try unplugging it and scrolling up and down rigorously. Maybe it has to be broken in first.

If all else fails, then I will look into using WD40 or something. I'd rather try smaller things first to solve the issue.
